Avoid VOID

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:47 pm

Nothing could kill my self created char, no litches, no ancients things, even traps i could survive, nothing except that void s*it thing... falling into oblivion, geting lev as quick as i can, but stuck in the dark he simply... blowup...

I cant belive that a game of cult like this does not have a unoficial fix for this.... a set a 40% of posibility to fall into nothing every time i reach into a dungeon... this void srcew the game fuk very much.

It was a game in the 90s where patches were rarities. Now adays, there's no budget to fix it. Check out the http://xlengine.com/ which will run DaggerXL when it's finished.

Really? I almost have to try to fall into the void; I've only accidentally done it back in the earlier patches in the late '90s. Since then I haven't had any trouble with it at all. Is it only happening in specific places or situations, or is it everywhere? Also, more importantly, are you playing a fully-patched game?

I rarely fell into the void back in the day with no patches, it was more common that I would intentionally jam myself into the void from a door frame when I couldn't find the correct switch.

The void is fun! Well, it's not fun if you can't levitate. But you can levitate, so you can always get out of the void. Just fly under a sloped surface (staircases and steep ramps are easiest), switch to ducking, and then fly up and forward, right through the floor and back into the dungeon. Using the tops of stairs lets you out into the void for all kinds of cheating goodness, exploration and general foolishness.

Of course, this works with non-dungeon places too. Finding your way out of a building with a sloped roof, like in your screenshot, is just as easy. If the building doesn't have a sloped roof there's always fast travel. A no-fail way into the void is to buy the small ship, go inside and just walk through the back wall of the hold. Not that there's any advantage to flying around the void when all that exists is a ship interior.

Heh, yes being a Void Ranger is pretty fun. With levitation, you can also crouch -> fly right up under a room-> stand up and poke your torso through the floor. That let's you activate stuff in the room without actually leaving the Void. Useful for looting bodies, pulling switches, and clicking on the dungeon exit.

My char is warrior pure, but the relationship with cleric allows me to get potions xD.

As i said before: i get stucked in the dark, then, suddenly my char blowup... it was real "funny" like you said guys... especially after i usullay like to finish this games (like arena or oblivion) wihout a single death.

(and yes, i was levitating).

I try this... helps a lot. Thanks.

Walking the void was one of the many Daggerfall playable (lol) bugs. Some Daggerfall players even called themselves void rangers and come up with all sorts of methods to walk the void. My favorite was to use some door archways. Get bellow one of those then try to climb into the void from the side. You can then walk on top of the corridor and jump from corridor to corrdior. With some luck you can reenter from another door archway or using some other method.

I always found staircases and ramps easier than doorways. Doorways require more precision than I usually have patience for. Walking on top of corridors scares the crap out of me. I don't like walking when I can't see what I'm walking on. :D

You can get out by using the "go to last step" hotkey (alt-F11) enough so it get you back to just before you fell in. It also has the nice side effect of bringing you to the dungeon entrance right after a load. So lets say you can't get back in the dungeon or can't find the door. Just drop onto the roof of somewhere, save, load then use the last step key.

So, yes, they did have a fix for it.

Actually, all TES games have "The Void" - However, Daggerfall's is the only one that doesn't automatically return you from the void, nor protect you from falling damage if you step into it.

That's another fun void exploit. If you fall into the void, wait for a few minutes, and then hit ALT+F11 you can cause your fall damage to overflow. For some silly reason they used a signed number for fall damage, so when it overflows it goes negative. Extreme negative fall damage can put your HP so high the bar goes past the top of the screen. :D
