Awaiting my Trilogy Pack

Post » Mon Jul 19, 2010 6:09 pm

I just ordered the trilogy pack with Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics for like $10 or something. I'm very excited!! And i was also wondering about Tactics. I havent heard much about it, and i was wondering if you guys could give me the rundown on it. Also, I looked over the wiki, but I'm looking for more personal input...

Fallout Tactics is a very linear game I hear, and it's also got zero lines of dialogue, it's hardly a Fall Out game when you consider the rules the three Fall Out games were designed with.

It's a spin-off not a sequel. Not part of the 'main' series - just a non-RPG game set in the Fallout world... and they never claimed otherwise.
(unlike some other companies I know *cough cough* )

Tactics was great :) much more strategic, as you have to manage each of your team members, etc. Storyline was also good. If you want a game to compare it to, it's very similar to the UFO series of games (not sure if you've played any of those?) In a nutshell - tactical turnbased (optionally) RPG.

As was said, Tactics is basically a mission based combat game, where they improved the TB combat greatly ~then turned it off by default. :banghead:

Missions are often conditional, like don't let the spy get caught or you fail, or the Elder MUST survive (or you fail).

There is very little of anything else, and conversations are sparse. (Its a spin-off and is still good fun, but just for different reasons ~just like FO3).

Tactics is pretty fun, but outside of the Commandos series, I've never been particularly good at these real-time team management games. There's an option to use turn-based combat much like in FO1/2, but encounters are often so big that it's not particularly enjoyable to sit through them that way.

Oh, did I mention it has R. Lee Ermey in it as a voice actor?

That will be cool. He should be Dad in FO3. "COOL IT SCUMBAG" As Col. Autumn tries to take the purifier. "DR. LI! WHY IS COL. AUTUMN STANDING IN MY PURIFIER?"

Waiting for my copies to arrive in the mail as well.

The entire thing is a ripoff. Sure you get each game, but that white keep case is horrid. :P

I think long ago there was a US version with a nicer box, you can find copies floating around on eBay. No more, though.

Haha yeah, the case is pretty lame, but Im off to college soon, and I dont need the boxes, just the disks, and this one has all the games on one disk which is useful. I definitely wish I could have all the original boxes and manuals, but I dont know what I'd do with em.

Tactics is a "Squad based, tactical combat game" similar to Jagged alliance, or X-com. There is dialogue, but it's mostly just mission flavor. You play through a set series of missions, and in between you can wonder to you hearts content. You have after your first mission a big list of troopers you can add and desmiss from your party that have different skills sets best used for different mission types.

Is tactics also like Republic Commando from the Star Wars franchise?

not so much mechanics wise. However similar in basic concept I guess. As in you get set missions and maps with objectives you have to do.

The No Children in the uk version is patchable. Hook up the Fallout 2 Restoration Project in google as well as some unoffical patches for fallout 2 to get the best experience from it ...

and like former posts indicates tactics is a mission based squad 'RPG'(in the sense of developing your squad) wich is pretty good at it too
but has little to do with Fallout 1 or 2 altogether (in Game) but features something no other fallout delivered ... steerable vehicles

gratz to the purchase , hope you enjoy the Fallout series for what they are

P.S. stay clear of the ps2 version B.O.S. ..., just some good advice
