so is an axe still a blunt weapon?

Post » Thu Jul 22, 2010 10:49 pm

True, but it seems that we get at least perks that in a limited fashion simulates that. Like "blunt ignores armor". Far from what I'd actually want though, but...

If I play the game until say level 20 with just a dagger then want to switch to a long sword I'm going to be just as proficient with it even if I never even picked one up until level 20? Doesn't make sense.

It worked that way in Oblivion, as both a Dagger and Longsword were both within the Blade skill.

You're absolutely right. Why not just have blade and blunt again though? Still two skills vs one handed and two handed?

maybe developers are bored of trying to replicate a pen and paper experience when they could just go play a pen and paper RPG, and are instead choosing to explore different avenues for the evolution of role-playing videogames that aren't just rehashing what's already been done a hundred times?

No, most are just lazy. Take a look at Bioware; they haven't made an actual RPG in years, instead opting for bad shooters / dating sims and calling them "RPGs".

If melee is divided between just one handed and two handed how is that going to work? If I play the game until say level 20 with just a dagger then want to switch to a long sword I'm going to be just as proficient with it even if I never even picked one up until level 20? Doesn't make sense.

...like how it was in Oblivion? We've been complaining that for a while now, for years. Knowing that the amount of skills is fewer this time around, I can hardly imagine the reintroduction of a short blade skill.

This may very well be the end of The Elder Scrolls for TES fans.

I'm a TEX fan, and I dont mind the changes at all. I am eager to find out how it will work.

Well in all seriousness, it's extremely rediculous. Less skills so I can get perks? That's idiotic, why do we need perks? I'd rather have 27 Morrowind or 35 Daggerfall or hell, even 21 Oblivion skills than 18 Skyrim skills. And Bethesda, why're you homogenizing Fallout and TES?

Obviously the older games were just too hard, and they need to water things down to appeal to the "casual crowd."

Over 21 skills, reading your journal, asking directions, thinking about things... what?!

>Open Map
>Find quest marker
>Fast travel there
>Follow the green arrow!
>PROFIT!!!

That's some intense gaming right there. Keeping it real since March 20, 2006 on a 360 near you.

Yes. My "Replying" skill just increased to 56.

I see you've chosen the "Snarky" perk. I chose "Lurker", but I'm not adhering completely. Time for a re-roll.

Both of these have now been sigged. :lmao:

I haven't gotten my issue yet so I can't really comment. But from what I've seen I'm not sure I'm liking this whole one handed, two handed idea...
I'll reserve judgement for when I get the issue though.

1H longsword feels different than swinging a 1H katana.

Katanas are supposed to be 2 handed not only dai-katanas. wakizashis are not used for fighting they are used for seppuku wich is why samurai carried both. so yea. Elder Scrolls has always been wrong with that point

I don't think any of us could answer that. I think we're all just going to have to wait and see how the entire system works before we can make any serious judgments, as most are just knee-jerk reactions right now.

Its a good thing they got rid of the hud so you cant just follow an arrow. Im pretty sure that aspect of finding things has been dropped but fast travel has not.

What's the point of changing it from blade/blunt to one handed/two handed? Seems redundant.

Sadly I think cutting skills is the "future" of TES.
I agree, I think more skills the better, well if they make sense at least...
How axes, which have a cutting edge, are near blunt weapons, which are targeted at pressure points (an obvious derivation in how they are used), is beyond me
Before you know it we will be down to 3 skills
Combat
Magic
Stealth

Sadly...

There's been a lot of chat about the perks system but I still feel a bit in the dark about it, not having read the GI article on TES V. Anyone care to provide a brief outline of it?

if there's going to be more focus on perks being used to specialise certain skills then I guess you'll get them more frequently than Oblivions '1 perk for each 25 skill points' system. It also implies choices in your perks rather than a fixed bonus like chance of knockdown/disarm/paralysis.

If this has been answered already I apologize. But I don't see any way how less skills can possibly be good!

It was a mistake to reduce it to 21 from morrowind, why oh why reduce it more? I must be missing something...

THIS! and now perks.

I cant wait for Fallout V: Skyrim!!!!1!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!

Not only that, but they bring back Enchant. Talk about a flawed skill in Morrowind, hopefully they have fixed it.

A flawed skill that everyone COMPLAINED about them removing? Unpleasable crowd much?

so if I just wanted to use one handed, perhaps something small and fast like a dagger, could there possibly be dagger type of perks latter on?
..and then later if I pick up a single-handed axe, I might not be very good with it vesus the perks I have with a dagger?

...so is the differentiation going to be in the perks for either ranged, one-hand , two-hand , or dual wield uses, as to how effective I will be with using a particular weapon?

Unpleasable crowd? Just because they think is skill would be cool to have, AND want it to work? Wow, they're asking for so much.

I hope they bring some skills back, but I guess asking for them to work would be too much.

You guys realize that perks existed in Oblivion as well, right?
It was just taken to the next level in Fallout 3.

When you reached a specific level in a skill, you would get a perk:
Equipped Heavy Armor wouldn't weigh you down anymore - this is a perk.
In Acrobatics, you would be able to jump of the water-surface - again, a perk.

So, perks is not just a "Fallout 3-thing", it's also an "Oblivion-thing".

Perks have been an integral part of Fallout since 1997. They are a Fallout thing.
