Ayleid Complex

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 3:27 am

i am not sure if this is fit under artwork, but this seemed the best option. me and my dad have about 2/3 of an acre and he always wanted to build a house on it. well because the dutch government has really strict rules about buildings in densely populated areas i thought about something underground. my main idea is to build an small ayleid complex. i dont know which materials are used but i am thinking of marble, the ground is perfect for something underground,1 metre of ground and then 20-30 metres of very light moist sand. but i need tips for the blocks etc etc.
i would appreciate it if you could give me tips about it

greetings, ruben l.

Wow, that's a cool idea. Make sure you don't compact your soils in construction! I don't know what exactly you mean by 'tips', but it should have http://www.cracktwo.com/2011/04/25-abandoned-soviet-monuments-that-look.html flavor. Definitely.

You have the funding for such a project? The architecture of the ruins are great, and also very realistic. You don't have to go with the same type of marble/material for it either, you could do something like this if you wanted a warmer feel: http://pds.exblog.jp/pds/1/201009/22/10/b0178210_0205653.jpg

I recommend looking at some of these mods for inspiration

If your really serious about going into a project like this, good luck.

What are you planning on doing with it once you are done building?

about funding, we only need the marble blocks cut etc and we need some steel plates in the ground for a hole, my plan is to dig holes/trenches and then build the structure in the trenches.

If I were you I would go to a professional and get all the specs on it. Get an artistic rendering of it, price, and time to build it.

One thing you shoud make sure is teh level of the water table - sands is good for drainage, but it also means it's good at bringing the water in. And I'd ratehr use a concrete strcture with marble facing, for several reasons :
* waterproofing
* cost - as far as I know there's little marble available close by, the transport bill can be a killer
* ease of handling : the Ayleids ruins are made with pices that often go into the cubic meter range or bigger. That's two metric tons a piece. Not exactly convenient to handle if yo'ure planning on building something on your own.

That sounds really cool. Looking at some mods would help for it...but that's already been said. Good luck with building this -- we'd all love to see it sometime ;)

God, this sounds really ambitious! It'd look so awesome if you could actually get it done. I'd kill for my own underground Ayleid house. It'll be a challenge though, and maybe white-washed stone will be cheaper than marble.

Not sure this is the best board in the world to give building advice but best of luck with your idea, and remember to show pictures once it's finished!

i was actually thinking of limestone, it's very cheap and we have mines in the South of Holland.
by the way, those pictures might come in a few years though, need geological research and advice, and then not to speak about building it, i think it would take years.. :-O
