Azura and Molag Bal

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:27 pm

Well I might just be misreading this, but I was reading about Azura on UESP and it mentioned that she's alligned with Molag Bal.... hmm, a topless woman alligned with the King of [censored]? That must make for some awkward meetings...

This is why it's getting harder to stay with the Lore forum.

I've never heard of a connection between these two Daedra.

Neither have I, but Molag Bal did have a Winged Twilight for a daughter.

I think it's the reference to DF god alliances and what not.
From what the UESP (as much as I hate quoting it):
In Daggerfall, she is an enemy of Ebonarm and Nocturnal. She is alligned with Molag Bal and may be summoned on Hogithum.

This is completely uncalled for. As Hellmouth stated, this is in reference tot he DF god alliances. It would seem YOU are the ignorant one, and I find statements like yours something that is making it harder for ME to stay on the lore forum.

On topic, the god allegiances are basically outdated by now. In DF there were many gods (with more in other regions implied) in a D&D-esque setting. As the TES moved away from D&D-esque settings, the number of true gods diminished and the roles of the remaining gods were cast as more complex, the whole alliance thing became moot.

I don't even see the need for hostility from anyone. It all seems pretty unnecessary.

Fair enough. I began TES with "Morrowind", so I don't usually realize how many changes have occurred since "Daggerfall".

Well think about it, who would the king of [censored] above all want to hang out with? A half-naked woman. Unfortunately for him Vivec got to it first.

Jokes aside, the alliance made sense in Daggerfall, as Azura was definitely portrayed as more of an amoral, nubile bimbo than in Morrowind, where she was presented as a modest, wise and motherly character.

This in mind, it's fair to say that Azura is the mother-in-law of the et'Ada.

The Daedra are simply complex beings. Azura has a particular face she presents to the Dunmer, but ultimately, that's all it is: a face. One aspect of her could easily be allied with Molag Bal in High Rock at the same time she remains in traditional opposition in Morrowind... if the Dunmer even know what they're talking about, regarding "Good Daedra" and "Bad Daedra". It could be their opposition that is obsolete, the result of an ancient classification system long since rendered moot by actual events, the politics of Oblivion having changed five times over since the early days of the Tribunal.

Indeed, such a stable alignment as is proposed in Morrowind would be contrary to the nature of such Padhomaic beings.

Not as manipulative as far-sighted.

She also seems quite vain and prideful to me, as she seemed to love being loved, and went extremely nuts when anyone defied her (e.g. cursing the entire chimer race for the crimes of three people).

I agree with this. It's as if she was screaming "Look what you made me do!" as she cursed the Dunmer.

But was it due to Azura or the Tribunal's use of the Heart and the Tools?

Someone more knowledgeable than I might know better on this, but I got the impression that it was Azura who changed the Chimer into Dunmer, looking "like ghouls", despite her claim that it was their fault instead of hers.

Maybe she screwed with the tools before the Dwemer tried to use them, hence why the Dwemer became part of Numidium and the Chimer became like Azura. Just an idea.
