I'm still wondering why the dragons would create this kind of song about the only person that they fear (going by the trailer). I don't know a lot of races who ask for the blessing of the person meant to stop them.

Unless dragons just happen to share the language Alduin and friends speak (and they are actually against Alduin) or that a cleaver Nord wrote that in Draconic to scare them.

So Alduin, or Akatosh, is coming to destroy the world. That was one of the theories I believe. Cool plot, really.

As if that was a bad thing...

Well... I don't know what to say. It could be a good, or a bad thing...

But, at least I know that Bethesda didn't stole this idea from Bioware, after all Skyrim plot was being formulated since Oblivion was released.

The song doesn't have to be part of the lore. I don't think that was the intention at all. I think the song is meant to be interpreted simply as a draconian poem set to music to announce the game. That doesn't mean we have to assume it was written by dragons or that it even exists within the TES world itself.

I too translated it.
As for what it means the only thing i could say for certain is that the"when brothers wage war" part points to civil war but thats been talked about for some time

So when there's civil war between the Nords Alduin will rise and try to destroy the world.

This is just how I interpreted it. If this is true then there are different Nordic clans, and this Alduin character is the villain.

Cool stuff. This was fun.

Sure, I wasn't implying Beth tried to stole the idea, I was simply saying that if all games had plots like the Mass Effect series...I wouldn't have much money left :P

I wouldn't go that far
look a bit further up in the thread and you can see a definition of Alduin (short: Akatosh's nordic equivalent)
I HOPE he's not the villain (at least, not blatantly), that would be far too predictable and disappointing

I hope Alduin isn't the villain...

Think of the divines in modern religions, they are all both the creators and harbingers of apocalypse. Eventually they all destroy the planet and "save" some, the same could happen with Alduin. Approaching a grey area on the storytelling is a good thing to do rather than good and evil.

I was thinking the same, it must have been written by Nords. But if I understand it right, there'll be a civil war between them going on as well? Maybe the song isn't supposed to have been written by anyone, it's just there for the game.

Probably not the right thread to discuss this in.

edit: I should have realized that you have to write faster in order to not get ninja'd x5 right now.

So, in Morrowind, you fight a semi-mortal
In Oblivion, you fight a Daedric Prince
In Skyrim, you'll fight a God.

If that's the case, then good luck to the Dragonborn. Fighting the god of time and all that.

Wouldn't that be repetitive? Don't you mean writing instead of plot?

It is very likely that he is the 'bad guy'.

Akatosh was one of the gods that were trapped on Nirn because of Lorkhan and the only way he and his fellow 'dragons' could regain their true divinity is to eradicate all men from Nirn.

I love the poem, and what it signifies to me. The inclusion of a dragonish language and the contents of this specific dragonish text confirms to me that the dragons, as a race, are not the enemy - indeed, it seems they would be our ally. Good, I like that. Though it would appear that one (or the avatar of that one) is indeed the enemy. Though it begs even more questions... When the trailer says "But there is one they fear" is it really the Dragonborn, which we assume will take the mortal form of one of Tamriel's races? Or is it Alduin? Perhaps the Dragonborn actually means two things at once?

I don't think we need a confirmation since everybody is getting the same thing. The poem isn't hard to translate.

Agreed, I just like having things set in stone.

But that isn't really evil, from the point of view from the gods this is pretty understandable, from the point of view of men it's only bad for the non-religious one, for the religious ones it's like salvation.

I hope Bethesda explores this subject just like I said, it would be a pretty awesome grey plot.
