Dragonborn Dragonborn
By his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay
And the fiercest foes rout
When they hear triumph's shout
Dragonborn for your blessing we pray

And the scrolls have fortold
Of black wings in the cold
That when brothers wage war come unfurled
Alduin bane of kings
Ancient shadow unbound
With a hunger to swallow the world

Feel free to discuss what you think this portends to.

The plot seems to be this: The biggest threat to the world coming when skyrim is at its weakest, during civil war.

Do we have to use spoiler tags here? I mean, come on, if you come to this thread, expect slight spoilers.

I'm not going to say anything except, wow, this story could be epic. Oblivion's felt somewhat lacklustre, like I was just going from A to B for lazy Martin.
Hopefully there'll be more action! More dispute! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRR!

Sounds like a great story with lots of political intruige considering there could be civil war.

Repost from one of the other threads:

Awesome, thanks for the translation :) Certainly affirms my hope for one hell of a metaphysics storyline. Interested in seeing how they will handle it if thats the case.

Spoiler
In Oblivion Akatosh is the good guy, but now it seems he's the bad guy. Unless of course Alduin isn't Akatosh.
Love the grayed morality of Elder Scrolls.

Omg, thats ingenious. All the time we thought they would sing in english at the trailer and now it comes out that it was a completly different language. Just brilliant and the translation was fun, too. And the story sounds like it had great potential.

A great start!

This gives me high hopes for Skyrim's story, and for the quality of its writing. The words are wonderful, and evoke a lot of themes I want to see in an Elder Scrolls game.

But yes, are the spoiler tags necessary? It's difficult to discuss the words without revealing what they are.

Sounds very interesting. The story sounds awesome so far. This was a very neat idea by Bethesda to do I think.

Although I unfortunately didn't have the time to be in part of the translation... because of writing an essay.

I did bother translating it myself, what would my warrior forefathers have thought otherwise...

Hey, I'm actually impressed with what I hear. Maybe we will get more lore and culture out of Skyrim than originally thought.

Yup, but lets see how grey will the plot be. Of course he isn't just the bad guy, he is both the creator and destroyer, it's a cycle to keep balance I think. Though this thing about an ancient god returning to nom everyone reminds me a lot of Mass Effect 2, an ancient machine race comes back to destroy all life again...

Can we get a dev to confirm if they've finally hit the nail on the head?

I can't wait to see how they handle this
clearly they won't just completely ignore established lore and make it "dragon comes, defeat him" (well, hopefully)

I don't think we need a confirmation since everybody is getting the same thing. The poem isn't hard to translate.

I reckon if we all got the same thing it's safe to say it's right :)

Ahh, as I thought, this is about Alduin (akatosh), destroying the world to start again, or possibly leave the world forever.

Kinda ironic that the whole time we were trying to figure out the song it wasn't even in English...
