Well that was fun.

So, basically, we're up against the god of time; the one that saved the world in the last game? He only showed up to tell Mehrunes Dagon, "Wait, wait, wait! Wait! It is not time to destroy the world yet!", and in this one he says "okay, now it's time, but I'm going to eat the Nords first"?

And Martin turned into an avatar of Akatosh, so now we're... sort of... fighting him also?

:ahhh: Plot twist! Sort of...maybe, but I'm really hyped for this main story, if Beth really fleshes it out it could be really fricken good.

My theory was that he was working with Dagon to kill the last heir but still appear to be their hero, and after the deed was done and martin was consumed he tied up some loose ends.

Funny, i had understood, that Akatosh had "possessed" "transformed" "changed" "influenced" (whatever word you want to use) Martin into a shadow of himself in order to stop Mehrunes Dagon, because he cannot manifest himself fully or something like that, and that ensuing the battle, Martin died/dissappeared an all. Haven't touched Oblivion ever since I finished the game which was quite a while back so I might be wrong, but then you wouldnt be fighting martin at all.

These dragons are most certainly Akavir - Skyrim will tell about Akavir invasion.

Here's what http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Akavir.

Ka Po' Tun is translated as the "Tiger-Dragon Empire". The inhabitants are a cat-like people and are ruled by the great ruler Tosh Raka, a tiger dragon. They are the greatest empire in Akavir, but are not skilled at fighting at sea. After the Serpent people ate the men, they tried to eat the dragons. They managed to make the red dragons slaves, but the black dragons fled to Po Tun. A great battle was fought, and it left both the cats and the snakes weak, and the dragons extinct. Since then, the cats have always tried to become dragons. Tosh Raka is the first and only so far to have accomplished this. He is the largest dragon on Nirn and is covered in orange and black scales.

They are most certainly from Alduin. Whether he gets his dragons from Akavir or not is unknown.

Hahaha! UESP got it wrong! It never says that he was the only Ka Po Tung to become a Dragon!

I think I've hit the nail on the head. Here's what Mysterious Akavir (book in the game) says:
"First," Tosh Raka says, "is that we kill all the vampire snakes." Then the Tiger-Dragon Emperor wants to invade Tamriel.

Tosh Raka is the first to succeed. He is the largest Dragon in the world, orange and black, and he has very many new ideas.

:homestar: Yes. I already know that. I was just stating that UESP got it wrong... again.

We pondered this subject of Tosh Raka while we were still excited about the trailer. We pretty much ruled it out. Ask Lady Nerevar what she thinks. Or any other lore buff you can find.

Dammit, I didnt solve it. But seeing the answer, I never would have.

I was actually going through the entire thing like a code---I counted the number of times each symbol appeared, determined their percentages and tried to match letters. I thought I was on to something, but I guess not.

Good work to whoever figured it out .

UESP is notoriously bad when it comes to any info about Akavir. All they have is hearsay, and yet, because they reject anything not published ingame, they refuse to take account of things that are common knowledge.

It was very complicated, and impossible to do without the actual list of words that appeared in the poem/song. You had to fill in the blanks based at first only off of "Dovakhiin", then scroll down to determine what words fit where, and put the right words in the right places.

Took at least an hour to do properly. But I'm proud I did it. No cheating for me.

I'm sure others have done this before me but I just deciphered the whole thing:

Spoiler
DOVahKiiN DOVahKiiN

Dragonborn Dragonborn

NaaL OK ZIN LON VahRiiN

By his honor is sworn

Wah DeiN VOKUL MahFAERaaK ahST VaaL

To keep evil forever at bay

ahRK FIN NOROK PaaL GRaaN

And the fiercest foes rout

FOD NUST

When they hear triumph's shout

DOVahKiiN Fah HIN KOGaaN MU DRaaL

Dragonborn for your blessing we pray

ahRK FIN KEL LOST PRODah

And the scrolls have foretold

DO VED ViiNG KO FIN KRah

Of black wings in the cold

TOL FOD ZeyMah WIN KeiN MeyZ FUNDeiN

That when brothers wage war come unfurled

ALDUIN FeyN DO JUN

Alduin*, bane of kings

KRUZiiK VOKUN STaaDNAU

Ancient shadow unbound

VOTH aaN BahLOK Wah DiiVON FIN LeiN

With a hunger to swallow the world

*-Had to look this up-Alduin is the Nordic "World Eater" and their variation of Akatosh.

Alduin confused me at first because there was obviously no translation so I was forced to assume it was a proper name-which it was, and what it was made it all the more intriguing. lol

I also choose to go with the convention used with DOVahKiiN and spelled all the letter pairings in lower case.

I was really fun figuring the whole thing out-I was hoping it would be some huge complex thing that only a linguist could actually figure out, there's just a lot of trial and error and process of elimination involved. I hope this is the art of a larger ARG (alternate reality game) that will either play out through the month or possibly even throughout the year leading to the release of the game. I really loved what Nine Inch Nails' did with Year Zero but I didn't really get to play around with it that much so if gamesas is planning something similar I'm excited to be more of an active participant.

What's interesting to me is that the "literal" translation of the words, if we are to believe this is meant to be literal, rhyme exactly at the same points they do in the untranslated but romanized version. I know for a fact that literal translations of lyrics rarely EVER rhyme the same way-for instance, at one point I took it upon myself to rework the translated lyrics of a couple of Rammstein songs ("Ohne Dich" and "Sonne" if I remember correctly) and it was quite a challenge to rework the words to rhyme while retaining the meaning. Basically, I'm not necessarily questioning whether or not this is intended to be a literal translation-I'm more questioning the realism of a literal translation actually rhyming at the same points as the original worlds-but hey this is a video game so I'll let it slide...for now. lol

Also, speaking of Rammstein, the words have a certain German-type sound to them-"Kein" reminded me of "Keine", which means "none"-which is likely pure coincidence. Less likely to be coincidence is that they were going for a sound resembling languages from certain areas of Europe.

UESP is wiki. Go ahead and edit if you know better and there's source for your information. If someone is the first to succeed then another word to say it is that they are the only one that we know of to succeed.

Well considering only mention about black dragons is from Akavir and the Skyrim cover does say talk about dragons with black scales we're on the right tracks.
And then if the cat folk of Akavir are trying to become dragons and they clearly can become dragons - and they want to invade Tamriel I think this is pretty straight forward.

The lore what we currently have to work on doesn't of course bring us the full picture. Bethesda is of course coming up with it as they go along.
I am not a lore master, by a long shot. I just know that it's made by developers of a game. They can twist anything so that it suits their purpose, they decide what happens in the future of this universe.

People wanted dragons, they've been wanted in the game from since Morrowind. Now what if Bethesda wanted us to fight against the biggest and the baddest dragon of them all.

UESP is notoriously bad when it comes to any info about Akavir. All they have is hearsay, and yet, because they reject anything not published ingame, they refuse to take account of things that are common knowledge.

The entire article is pretty much sourced off Mysterious Akavir. Again, if you know better, and you have sources, there is edit button.
