Back to FO3 from NV?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:15 pm

It didn't take long for DC to give me what the Mojave NEVER does, level 3

First real random encounter on my new playthrough, 2 brotherhood outcasts and a robot slapping 6-7 raiders. Its good to be back..

If you scale it, it's not nearly every block. While I will grant you that it is still quite frequent, the entire city is supposed to be crawling with raiders, BoS members and especially mutants.

Which is different when you compare the hundred or so miles in comparison to F2.

Also, if the game is so "post-apocalyptic" then it wouldn't be as populated as it is.

Man, Fallout 3 really can't win, can it?

Either it gets flak for being not rebuilt enough 200 years after the war, or it gets flak for being too rebuilt. :P

In any case, I find the amount of enemies encountered in FO3 pretty commensurate with a post-apocalyptic wasteland 200 years after the bombs dropped; it's still devastated but the population is starting to return.

It makes more sense to encounter less people in FO1&2, because the population is concentrated in settlements and the area fairly lawful, but in DC I find it perfectly logical that there's gangs of nasties scattered all over the landscape.

Super Duper Mart on level 2 with MMM's increased Spawns and FWE standard settings had more action and was difficult than the Hoover Dam battle ever was :ahhh: They shot me, and i died from it!

The problem with that is: Why do people stay?

Like, Megaton, Rivet City, Tenpenny Tower, all other settlements, why do they stay if it's such an inhospitable area?
Wouldn't they be safer in another area?
If it's so intense with chaos then how can even settlements survive?
And don't give me that crap about "Well it's so dangerous so they have to stay."
I read the summary for the film The Cube, and uhm either they try to escape and face death head on with a chance of survival, or they sit down and starve to death.
At least by trying to escape they have a chance at living.
So "it's too dangerous for them to leave" is not a valid argument for me.

It's not crap to say "it's so dangerous they have to say"; if you were living a crappy life in a town, but living, would you want to risk near-certain death trekking across the Wasteland?

Dismissing that argument as invalid is illogical at best. If staying in a settlement meant you were faced with certain death, then it'd make sense, but that's not the case.

Errr, as much as I like NV and feel it's vastly superior to F3.... this is not really helping our cause guys. Let's all join hands and join the "ye olde timer dinosaur club" instead!

No offense, but as a FO3 fan, I'd rather not join the club of people who express their dislike for FO3 strongly and often. :P

* Tosses you a few extra MF Cells* Take them, you'll need them for the [censored] storm i deal with for the same [censored] they give me because i love Fallout as much as they do, and for the same reasons you express, all i do now is wander the waste and hopefully someone will act like a [censored] advlt now, and remember what it means to be a fan, and not [censored] nitpick about VS [censored] anymore in every thread, and remember their just games, not reasons to belittle others for their opinions. Watch out brother, Reavers have been in the area, put two down already. * wanders off*

* Shoots a Glowing One :gun: * I have as much experience as you do in the Fallout games as you do, but instead of flaunting it and saying this game is better than another, i learned my lesson to keep my opinions to myself, or say IMHO( in my humble opinion), because it is my opinion, and i am entitled to it. If belittling others and not lording over then with your *experience* makes you an elder, i'm glad i'm not in your chapter of the Brotherhood. You have a lot of growing up to do emotionally buddy, if you need to rip on others for expressing their opinions. Now I got better things to do than argue with you, like finding Sugar Bombs....

*looks as the bullets harmlessly deflect from the armor*
What is this, a sermon? Who said I am in the BoS? Or that I should grow up and have a life? As a gamer, I have many lives ya know! *ding* argument invalidated. :fallout:

Allright serious tone now: I don't give a damn if you think I am mighty-acting or something. I am just simply poking fun at the people who call us 'old-timers not capable of playing anything else but tetris and fallout 1". I don't have a problem with them prefering F3 at all since I've spent a whole year 2009-10 on that game along with Dragon Age. I don't intend to sound like a hypocrite then but it's just the sweeping and generalizing commentary that irks me a bit. *grumble*
Also, as I recall, I don't remember openly calling anyone 'stupid', 'having a bad taste in games' or saying F3 is a poor game at all during the little Fallout arguments. Just sayin' if you decide to point the blaming finger next time. :hubbahubba:

Spoiler
IMO

In the end, we can still join hands and thank Bethesda and Obsidian either way!

Spoiler
And before some genius comes, no I don't hate Beth, I thank the heavens every day for those countless hours I've spent on Daggerfall and Morrowind+mods. Why would I be on these forums anyway?

You haven't, but i could name some that have, who luclkily seem to have left the boards though. Debates are all well and good, but when it goes to personal insults or derails topics that weren't meant for such debate, it's just childish

* Stops and turns around* And all this "joking" does not irk me? I am getting beyond the VS phase now, i am sick of it so much because my opinion is belittled, now i am in the "watching out for the little person" phase because i am tired of seeing others belittled as much as me. But sometimes joking goes too far, as does watching out for the little person, I apologize, but you need to watch where you aim that AER-12 Squirtgun, sometimes some people will not see what you doing as a joke. I know it is based on the person, but not everyone is as rational in the end, and is willing to discuss things calmly like i tend to most of the time.

I hope through this serious dialogue will help alleviate some doubts, and that some of us "Toddlers" are more grown up than we appear to be, regardless where we stand on the debate that divides us so much, and that maybe, we can get along and just simply enjoy FO, FO2, FO3, FO:NV and Tactics, which is what i want. :fallout:

Now, let shake hands, agree to disagree, share some Sugar Bombs, and go off knowing we came out of this with a clearer sense of peace, and now, i got to go find something to do on my patrol, i got my Sugar Bombs.....

I have murdered NV 4 charactors all level 25+ 400 hours plus but i need a break from it until the new DLC starts arriving.

Think its possible to go back and start a new playthrough of FO3?
Have you? Did you miss the new stuff fromn NV? like crafting, weopens, new enemies...

I'm at Level 11 in FO3 after 5 games of FNV and loving it. It's my second FO3 and it's been a while since I played the first so it's almost like new again. I can't say I miss anything very much because it's ok that they're different. The only thing I might miss is my favorite companion from FNV when I'm in an epic battle like the one from the hospital to the Statesman Hotel to save Reilly's Rangers. I got through it though and it was a blast. :)

That would be all...my favorite companion...but I know I'll see Fawkes again later. :)

P.S. Just remembered...I wish I could scope my Laser Rifle. I just found the scoped .44 Magnum though so that helps.
