Back to FO3

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 12:13 pm

After waiting for several years for Skyrim, and lurking at the problems forum, I've started another game in FO3. As well as two new characters in Oblivion. I'm bummed about this development in Skyrim, as well as my son. We've been salivating for a while....
It's been so long since I traveled the wasteland, and it's just as awesome as I remember it!
I'm on the 360 as well. No mods. Of course I am playing with some hardcoe self-imposed rules, to keep it challenging, as well as playing dead is dead, but I just wanted to put it out there, that this game rocks... and still does after a year and a half break.

See you out in the wastes!

For a brief moment, I thought you were disappointed in the development of your son. :P

How far to you intend to go before dying is acceptable? I foresee a sudden difficulty when the Enclave shows their forces.

Edit:
Do you have Broken Steel or Mothership Zeta? Supermutant Overseers with Tri-beam lasers.

I've played DID before on several characters... The Enclave is already on the scene in my game. My guy is pretty weak (meant to be that way) so I've been sneaking around them, unless I have a sure-fire tactical advantage, meaning a missile launcher, or I'm higher than they are and can whip grenades down at them. No vats for this character unless he is using spiked knuckles. I'm avoiding more situations these days rather than engaging them.

Ive started another fallout 3 game with hardcoe mods on the pc including arwens realism tweaks, no fast travel, mmm, nmc's texture pack and loads more. Try fighting abdominal mutants on lvl 2. Its insanely hard. Ive got about 11 hours and not even half way to lvl 3 yet. But i LOVE IT!!

Need some mods like this for skyrim. But comparing the two i prefer fallout 3 vannila over skyrim. Cant stand the regen health bar.

Very good. I remember seeing a post of yours, mplsBD, with some very strict... uh... restrictions. Such as throwing away a weapon that has no more ammo.

When I play dead is dead, I play on normal difficulty with fWeapDamageMult set to 4. And I have my own .esp that makes many containers respawn ( boxes, mailboxes, non-quest safes, tool boxes, medic kits, etc ). That way I can at least scrounge around to survive.

One day I decided to save some time and slide down a steep incline to the area below. Using a mod that grew trees a green foliage everywhere had disguised this road as more forest. Before I knew it I was in the midst of five or six MMM raiders. Died when a car exploded as I was making a break the wrong way.

Probably skeptical (or not interested ~yet), but I would honestly recommend playing http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/Fallout or http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/Fallout_2 (or both), and then returning to FO3 with a new perspective on the entire series; or have you already played them... or played them recently?

Are they available for the 360? I'm not willing to take a gamble on Skyrim just yet, and my son and I are looking to find a version of Morrowwind for the console. Otherwise, I'm a Mac.

They are not... Fallout had an original (classic) Mac release, and FO2 was ported to MAC, but I think those are too much trouble (and lack patches). In case you do not know... Bethesda had no involvement with the first two (and it is nothing like Morrowind or even Arena). It was a differently designed gaming experience ~and is also considered among the top RPG's ever made.

Fallout will run on nearly any PC. It does not need 3d hardware (and can share 16 MB ram with Windows, on a 16MB machine ~so it really will run on nearly anything x86 based, built after 1994).
