Back to Morrowind...

Post » Fri Sep 20, 2013 3:08 pm

After many years I've decided to replay Morrowind because after years of Oblivon and Skyrim its time to return home.

I haven't been around on this forum a long time too, so I'm kinda nervous about making a new topic.

Anyway. If the community is still as mature and helpfull as I remember I'm sure some of you could spare the time to help me with some mod/software necessities for my fresh new game.

To give some info...

- software :

-- I remember there was a code patch around, not sure if its used these days.

-- I used the script extender

-- Morrowind Graphics Extender was also on my drive ( mainly for the 16:9 corretion and distand land )

- mods :

-- I used Vampire Embrace and Better Bodies/Heads.

-- tons of other mods I don't remember.

-------

Thanks for anyone willing to help.

Edit:

Current prgress:

- MCP applied

- Wrye Mash installed and working

- MGE XE installed, distand land created.

The Morrowind Code Patch is still around and pretty much indispensable.

MGEXE is the current flavor of MGE. Like MGE before it, it still includes the script extender.

You'll also want to install Wrye Mash and possibly Mlox.

On the Better Bodies side, there's still BB of course, but to truly complete it you will also want New Beast Bodies, Better Clothes, More Better Clothes, More More Better Clothes, Better Clothes Mesh Fix, Better Clothes Tribunal, Better Clothes Bloodmoon, Better Clothes Supplemental, Better Clothes The Forgotten Clothes Edition, Better Robes, Better Armor, and Better Clothes Won't Someone Just Bundle Them All Up Together Already. Most of them can be found only on Wolflore.

I downloaded MGSO.

You get the code patch, MGEXE, MWSE, better heads, better bodies, better clothes, fixes and stuff... and can choose whether you want it or not... and switch if you don't like what you get. And you can still add other mods. Saves a lot of time, in my opinion :) Though others think it's the other way around :)

Mlox is a tool that updates your load order in dependence of rules in a database (pretty much like BOSS for Oblivion if you know that one ). It also shows information about possible conflicts or updates of mods, as long as they are included in the database, which is still being updated constantly
Furthermore it includes tes3cmd, a commandline tool which can do many things, but the most useful for endusers would be the multipatch option, which is about the best "merge-list and stuff" thingy you can get. As far as I know, it even beats Wrye Mash

Well there are tons of info on mods, but to put the best mods for Telvanni in a nutshell:

- Rise of House Telvanni [RoHT]: Advances the questline after becoming Archmagister (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=4449)
- Uvirith Legacy [UL]: Makes the Telvanni stronghold a real stronghold, includes a patch to make it integrate in RoHT. Aand it's still being developed to become more awesome  See the forum Thread (http://roadhunter.com/~stuporstar/index.html)
- Building Up Uvirith Legacy [BUUL]: Advances your stronghold by giving you the possibility to build up a little village around your tower, mostly depending on your bonds with the different factions in the game (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7736)

Well, and there is Tamriel Rebuilt: http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/
I think you will get more advices from other people

PS: If you planning to use MGSO make sure you apply this patch after installing: http://download.fliggerty.com/download--726
And in my case I had to use the downloaded version of MGXE (0.9.9 it is I think), otherwise my savegames kept getting bricked

I know BOSS  ... Mlox will be useful then.

Telvanni mods.. I think I had one called Building up Uvirith Grave installed.. great mod.

Conflicts.. what is currently used to determine conflicts? I used some prog I don't remember .. saw a conflict ... made a patch myself. Or is there nowadays a database of compatibility patches too

You might also be possibly interested in http://download.fliggerty.com/download--852 as well as it addresses 2 issues.

EDIT: Mlox will tell you about many conflicts and possible fixes for them in its messages to you. You can also use http://mw.modhistory.com/download--7040 to determine conflicts. Some conflicts are easily fixed by using the merged objects feature of TESTool.

Edit2: Partially NInja'd by TheMechanistwhile writing this...oh well...lol

BUUL is Building up Uvirith Grave [aka BUUG], but compatible with UL ;)
Well there is a tool to check up on conflicts in a very general way, its called tespcd: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:TES_Plugin_Conflict_Detector
I'm not sure, but I think tes3cmd also have a likely function, check out the readme ;)

Yup. Use TESTool to make a Merged Objects, and use Wrye Mash to make a Mash List.
Those are the only two you need. (don't use TESTool to make any other)

The Code patch has many options.. hope that some of the game mechanic changes won't conflict with some mods that rely on the vanilla one.. or I am worrying too much to much?

If I'm already talking about game mechanics and stuff... do I need some kind of balancing mod? Like prices, weights, game settings. Those kind of mods could conflict with the MCP I guess.

Well tes3cmd's multipatch function will create all the needed merged list in just one esp:

http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Tes3cmd#multipatch_-_Patches_problems,_merges_leveled_lists,_etc.

If you don't like the commandline just create a new "multipatch.bat" file in the mlox directory with this content:

;@echo offtes3cmd.exe multipatch

By executing this batch script it will automatically create the needed file called multipatch.esp

I too like the multipatch vs other methods of making merged lists esps because mutipatch does a few more things than just merge leveled lists...which none of the other methods do.

Ok, I must say I maybe had taken a long shot by saying that tes3cmd also includes "Merged Objects". To be honest I have no idea what function that is, and it isn't described in tes3cmd's readme :/
I really just got going for tes3cmd, because someone here mentioned it as the best tool for these operations and as far as I know it is the newest
So if anyone has more information on that cause, please correct me if necessary

AFAIK Tes3cmd does not yet do merged ojects esps, so you still need http://mw.modhistory.com/download--5234. for that. I use it for mod cleaning, the multipatch function, and the difference function (along with WinMerge for comparing esp/m files). I have a http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?style=5&f=9&t=5734 about using it for mod cleaning if you are interested.

tes3cmd doesn't include a merged objects functionality. You're best sticking with TESTool for that. TESTool does fail on very large mod installs (where it has to merge lots of objects it blows a buffer or something). Smartmerger is an alternative if you run into that (unlikely) situation. It's a much more powerful mod merging tool with a consequently more obtuse GUI. It was also designed as a command line tool so the GUI's a bit of a secondary consideration

tes3cmd can also "clean" mods. It's anologous to cleaning ITM (Identical To Master) records from Oblivion mods (dunno if that's a Skyrim term as well). TESTool can also clean mods. If you use TESTool I'd recommend setting its options for Restricted Dialog Cleaning and Restricted Cell Cleaning to On. tes3cmd is less zealous than TESTool so you can use (from a command line):

tes3cmd fixit

Which will do http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Tes3cmd#fixit_-_tes3cmd_fixes_everything_it_knows_how_to_fix (clean mods, create a mulitpatch etc.)

tes3cmd is not included in mlox (or vice versa) but both are downloadable from the same Google Code site.

mlox is not exactly like BOSS. BOSS uses the concept of a master list where every plugin has its place. mlox works on smaller ordering rules (so, just that mod A needs to load before mod B ). It does, however, have a lot more information on patch mods (load patch mod M to make mod Z work with mod A etc.), conflicting mods and the like. It's less comprehensive than BOSS but more detailed in what it does cover.

I am weary of using Mlox. More than a couple times has it screwed up my load list. The problem is that instead of simply moving the individual mods that need order changing, it moves whole chunks of the list. I have found it best to just point to me what is wrong and I can manually change the order with Wryemash.

Hmn... I dedice on Mash then. I like having control over my load list. And I remember being very good at diagnosing and deconfliting things.. and if I ain't anymore, well.. you can always learn from mistakes.

MCP has developed quite into a neccesity it seems. I just remember when it came out with the amazing news of squashing the local ref bug.. but now it offers much more fixes.

The patch didn't blow up my computer so I'm ready for the script extender and graphic extender. ... but maybe I should wait for the MGE because if I remember correctly I have to regenerate the distant land myself each time I add a mod that adds world objects.

edit:

Wrye Mash still version 84 oO ... thats the version I have on my old HDD
