Look ghouls, it's frowny face!

:lmao:

New emoticons, I'm happy!

Yeah, it's the only good thing about the change. Even with NoSquint and changing my resolution, font size, everything I can come up with, this still gives me a raging headache. Anybody needs me (that means you, Mystykstar, since you're the only one with my addy) email me. I'll either be offline or at Nexus. :wavey::fing04:

Man this svcks. And that's an educated opinion, I've studied this crap. Sure it looks nice. It's got gradients, it's got shades. It's even got transparency but what it lacks is usability. Usability defines how usable a product actually is and is the subject of actual scientific studies. Google for user centred design.

Now without pulling out Donald Norman just some of the basic things that go wrong:

 • The page mixes a fixed with header and footer with a fluid page. An all fluid page layout makes it easier to view the page at any with. The advantage the 'windows' concept is that you can put multiple next to each other. Right now I can't even see the end of this sentence. Because the forum insists on taking up 3/4 of my 1400 pixels while my browser only gets half. The other half is reserved for Pidgin, Songbird and some other stuff I like to interact with regularly while browsing the net.
 • The metaphor used for web pages is that they are actually pages. This means that unless this static menu provides aces to a set of regularly used features (say at least 10 times during a visit) a web page should not have one. How often are you going to change your settings? As for managing friends and ignored users, this is something that should be provided as a function on said users posts.
 • The search bar floats out of the header into the page when scaling the page with down. How did the web monkeys mess this one up? Did they forget not everybody has a widescreen TV for a monitor?
 • High contrast shading makes thin text unreadable. Flat colours might look boring but an interface is not for looking, the purpose of an interface is to get something done. Also watch the contrast in the menus of the post editor. Grey text on a white background? Seriously?
 • The page is way to complex. The page loads slow. The gratuitous use of transparency makes the browser scroll choppy (and ffs use a high resolution background!).
 • Use URL rewriting. Don't show that you're using php with alienating obscure phrases like: index.php?app=forums&module=post§ion=post&do=reply_post&f=18&t=1081410 but rather do something forums/post/section/reply_post/18/1081410
 • I can't see more then 40 posts or threads on a single page. How about a view all option?
 • I'm pleasantly surprised by the clean up of the options menu, but what are all these social network features? Status updates, friends? Adding social features doesn't make a community. You build a community by communication, and by that I mean developers posting in person. They still work here right?
 • About Javascript. Don't cross domains. Don't put one file up on zenimax.com and the other at gamesas.com. It's a pain in the ass when using NoScript.
 • About the migration. At which part was did it become problem to put my old avatar and signature from one database into another?

And this is coming from a guy with a website from the before '00. I hate to think some one actually got paid for this

For those using Firefox and experiencing extreme slowdowns while scrolling, try disabling smooth scrolling: Tools -> Options -> Advanced, uncheck "Use smooth scrolling".

I presume the general slowdown and higher CPU load is because of the semi-transparent bar on the top following your scrolling.

I find it very counter-intuitive and wrong that a feature meant to SMOOTH your scrolling is causing it to do the complete opposite. Further proof this forum is just not right at the moment, and I am hoping the devs will work this out.

Kinda off topic... But one day I want to see a mod close a thread by replying only with this: :thofftopic:

So the facebook stuff definitely posts stuff from here to facebook? Great... I'll never use it then. My facebook people don't know certain aspects of my life that I'm more open about here. Given that I know none of you in real life. :P

I have a profile pic...

but then again I used the Facebook sync feature to get mine up.
I'd guess it was originally disabled and it's since been reenabled or it required the Fabebook synch.
That sounds great. Hopefully they'll add forum skins.
Forum skins are actually a whole lot of work, if they are brought back I wouldn't expect to see them soon (particularly not in any great variety).
Why would you remove that one? Granted I can understand it if it's used in a manner that doesn't actually contribute something... Like someone spamming it yelling "THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!" and the like.
:thisissparta: What the [censored] came over them to add this. :24:

It's part of the default IPB package. It was added by an update before but people spammed so much with it the mods petitioned to have it removed - which I did again just a short while ago. :)

The CD needs it's own link on the main page, that's the only real gripe I have at the moment. That, and forum stars.

I'm pretty sure this won't be happening.

Not just the top bar, the entire forum. You can see the sandpaper in the Elderscrolls section shining through.

I'm pretty sure this won't be happening.

Why not?

Hey, I see location is back up. And is it just me, or did the text become grey instead of white?

I still do NOT like the transparency in the text fields (where I post, read posts, etc). You don't notice it much on the grey background, but once you pop in to any other forum (MW, Brink, WET), it becomes very difficult to read posts and stuff.

Serious question time: With the Facebook sync, is it possible to get in trouble here for content posted on Facebbok?

Cuz if so... [censored] that.

Ow. I tried to read all the posts and my head started to hurt and my vision got blurry.

The bar at the top is annoying as hell. I hate toolbars, they are a waste of space, and it acts just like a toolbar. They should have the option to mount it at the top where it belongs.

Yeah, we haven't had many insightful, interesting, and important discussions in a long long time. They banned politics and religion, and put a stopgap on anything else controversial so that, today, the vast majority of threads are simply recycled inane questions. "What's your favorite color", "how do you eat your cereal", "when do you cut your fingernails".

It really kind of svcks when you think about it.

I'd almost rather simply see the CD deleted again, and have the forums be about nothing but Bethesda games.

Using Safari on my Mac, and this site runs and loads extremely fast. Smooth as butter.
Anyone have an answer for my previously asked question?
Does connecting to facebook via this site spam the news feeds of my friends?

I feel like there's such a disconnect between Community Discussion and the other forums now. I admit that it's a very good thing that the forums are all listed on one page, with no scrolling involved like the original main page, but it all feels so disconnected.

Oh, and there's no link to the Bethblog at the top of the page. Looks like that's another thing I'll be bookmarking. <_<
