It's Back! #4

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:39 pm

I dunno what you all are talking about lag, or higher CPU usages. I'm running seriously SMOOTH as butter on this new forum setup. A lot smoother than I used to, in fact. Loads almost instantly, and there isn't any lag of any kind scrolling.
Guess it's you silly PC users. Safari FTW. :thisissparta:

Yeah, I'm running a Mac too. FTW :D

Love the black background, I simply love anything black/gray though. My bike is black, my PCs/peripherals are black/gray, my TV/lamps are black, many of my cloths are black.....but I am not goth/emo or any such thing. I just like black.

The wide screen issue is an issue.

The stars are annoying. (And very easy to fix. I've built sights and done just this, set up the star rating. 5 minutes, tops!)

The search bar is annoying to.

But I understand these things take time to tweak. I'll reserve full judgment, but basically like it so far minus the aforementioned stuff.

Oh right, almost forgot. I like how the emoticon window stays were I can get at it, and not disappearing behind my browser when I start to type again like the old forums.

Yeah, the star concept is a very easy fix.

Thanks for posting that in a manner that hopefully their web designer can use to improve it. While I'm ignorant about the subject, it does have a lot of obvious things that need ironing out. It is very hard on the eyes - I suffer from chronic migraines (almost daily) and I doubt I'll be using it much until different, less garish skins are available. And the scroll issue on Firefox makes it impossible to use for me - the stuttering is just too painful to look at (and its my default browser). Opera is better and Chrome is fine, so hopefully their web designer can figure out what makes one work well and the other not.

You aren't alone,I have ~5 migraines a week,and this sure isn't helping-I'm giving it afew days though..

Serious question time: With the Facebook sync, is it possible to get in trouble here for content posted on Facebbok?

Cuz if so... [censored] that.

That is an excellent question. I'll start a discussion about that in the mod/admin forum.

Why not?

Because the front is a list of game series. (And because I believe either Gstaff or Pete didn't like this idea.)

I feel like there's such a disconnect between Community Discussion and the other forums now. I admit that it's a very good thing that the forums are all listed on one page, with no scrolling involved like the original main page, but it all feels so disconnected.

Oh, and there's no link to the Bethblog at the top of the page. Looks like that's another thing I'll be bookmarking. <_<

I think giving CD it's own section would result in a bigger disconnect than having it at the bottom of each section.

I feel special now. :D

I'm interested in the facebook content question as well, although I do try to keep it clean even there.

To be fair, there was somewhat of a disconnection even before the change. A good portion of the CDers are not currently playing any Bethesda games because we have either beaten them all or grown bored of them which makes us the black sheep of the forums.

Why can't it be both?

I mean, there isn't much work/time involved in getting to CD,but there isn't a reason not to have it on the front page.

The scrolling issue on Firefox is related to having smooth scrolling enabled. Turn it off and it scrolls fine again. I'm assuming its the same for IE.

The CPU usage is directly related to smooth-scrolling. When its enable on Firefox, Opera or IE the usage shoots way up while scrolling. With it off its only a few percent. I don't plan off turning it off for one website. I'll just make Chrome (which doesn't have it as a feature) my Beth forums browser for now.

The pages load instantly for me. However to an extent loading times are meaningless to me.

I would like to see some more ElderScrolls related smilies. :blush2:

:slap: Take that back.If that was true i wold of left a while ago and never come back.Which I know all of you would be very upset.

Not line any of us should be here anyways. We're just circulating stagnant topics every week, inbreeding with our own vanity. How much do the "regulars" here contribute to the main game forums? Probably not even 1/4th of the amount they post in CD.

It's ridiculously active by most standards, even on the slowest of days, and presents a strain on moderators who would otherwise have a cush job.

I just drag the CD tab to my Bookmarks Toolbar as a direct link. (Always have.) So no biggie that it's not on the main page.

Pretty much this. I don't frequent a WHOLE lot of places when I'm on the net, generally just Facebook, these boards, myspace when I'm extremely bored, MMO champion, UESP, IRC, and youtube. All of those fit nicely into my bookmark toolbar. ^_^

If they're too large. That's a PNG image, you'll get better results saving it as a JPEG and uploading.

JPEG doesn't seem to help (and at 85% it was actually larger in filesize). Not worth the bother of mucking around with it .

Sadly doesn't change your text for the rest of us. You still come in grey, annoyingly.

It does fix things for me though, so there :P.

You are a life saver!

Unfortunately, this does not affect the color of the text as I type it in the Reply box. :(

You're welcome, happy to be helpful :) (note that other's linked to NoSquint earlier).

EDIT: except that now EVERY site I visit is going to by like this. <_<

Bottom right of the browser, there's a little magnifying glass thing. Left-clicking on that will bring up the site settings, and in that window there's a button for Global Settings.

I posted in Oblivion and Fallout 3 sections for quite some time but after awhile yes they got old with repeat topics.

Ya http://i41.tinypic.com/35jl2cw.jpg with Opera. It is probably pretty blinding to most of you but with my screen brightness down like usual, the BG is a pleasing beige color. I hope you feel special again MWFan :>

Yeah, some of the ones I have seen look like a monkey just bang his head on a computer and out came that...

It's looking sixier and sixier by the minute. :D
