Backing up everything

Post » Tue Apr 28, 2015 2:57 am

Hey guys this seems obvious but I want to make sure I don't miss anything. I will be upgrading to Windows 10 when it releases, and as most of us do, have a highly tweaked mod install of mods, textures, and meshes. All installed via NMM ofcourse. Now some of my mods overwrite eachother (textures for example) which is why it's a tweaked setup. I imagine I can just backup my entire skyrim folder no problem, and copy over when installed fresh in a new OS. But what about my NMM load order, install info, and everything to do with that? How do I back all that up so it will be like I never moved a thing?

:)

Back all your NMM folders as well.

Might be a good opportunity to convert to the Mod Organizer master race ;)

Control of the load hierarchy is as simple as moving entries up/down in the list.

Good luck man! I tried very hard myself to do this but failed and had to start a new PC. However I do everything manually (no automated install of mods).

So this time l made a JOURNAL of every step to set up my game (took me a full week).

Now next time I will have it all in my own HOW TO.

I highly suggest you do the same. :D

I have all my mods on a usb, but I use very few. I know yours is more tweaked and bigger but have you considered a external hard drive?

Also, don't forget to write down any mods you have that don't usually show on on the load order. I have made that mistake before.

Everything is through Nexus Mod Manager, even mods that I've made myself by combining a few textures or mesh mods together into one package.

Ahh, I see what NMM meant now. Didn't put 2 and 2 together...

I don't use NMM so I am not sure how files for NMM work.

I find it always best to install mods freshly after a clean install. Sometimes files might not have the right permissions when it is copied and pasted over to a new computer or a freshly installed system. The OS/Security software might think the files might be suspicious.

You mean the Wrye Bash Gods :teehee:

Yes, me too, and that's exactly where Wrye Bash comes in handy. Just backing up the "Skyrim mods" folder keeps all configuration information intact, so you can just install everything and be right back where you left. Well, apart from dynamically created patches, of course

The best decision of my Skyrim modding was to keep every mod installed via BAIN, install order managing and conflict resolution is illegally easy
