Backing Up Game

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 7:46 pm

Hey, if I get to a point where I have all my FCOM mods are working before I add anything else, can I save the data or oblivion folder as a backup in case I mess up the game and cant figure out whats wrong? If I just copied over a previous data folder would that work and all I would have to do from that point on is just rebash?

thanks

I always copy the contents of the "Oblivion" folder (for all the mods, obse etc.) and the "My Games/Oblivion" (for the saves) onto a separate hard drive as a backup - and it's saved me more than once! You'll need to reinstall Oblivion and the expansions from disc first if you ever need to back up, but once you've got a clean install, just copy the folders back in and you should be up and running.

Copying the data folder won't really change anything if you screwed up the load order you can only backup game saves and you could also backup the load order of mods that you used before and worked but only if you use Wrye Bash and I think OBMM

thx for replies! well, i just want to basically not have to reinstall all the FCOM mods is what i was hoping i could backup somehow. i never have a problem with FCOM working but eventually when I end up adding more mods over time I always run into some problems with half the mods suddenly not working nomatter what I do... isnt really a load order issue most the time.

So, if I copied my whole Oblivion folder at a certain point like right after I have my FCOM up and running along with essential patches and obse etc, if I [censored] it up and its not fixable, I can just replace it with the current oblivion folder and everything should work like FCOM, but I just would have to readd the mods after the time I copied the folder? I know how to use Wyre Bash and OBMM fully, I just seem to have issues outside what those programs can fix at times that require a fresh start but hate the tedious repeating of FCOM installations.

thanks

Yep. It's worked for me on multiple occasions where I've screwed things up by installing & then uninstalling WIPz or beta versions of mods and had problems - it'll just put you back to where you were before. It's worth rebuilding your bashed patch to be on th safe side, but you probably don't even need to do that!

I've also used this process to install my modlist (240+ mods!) onto a friend's laptop that was running vanilla Oblivion...
