Backup strategy in case ESO fails to appeal to PVE'ers.

Post » Sun Feb 16, 2014 4:04 pm

Full looting and open PvP would destroy ZOS' income stream as there is a microscopic customer base for that style of play. In comparison to the massive amount of money to be made off of PvE customers, microscopic is being overly generous.

There is zero interest in this, and no matter how many threads you keep creating, it will never be done.

I know casual players that really love Rust.... And Rust is about the same as what the OP suggested. Just because you like PvP does not mean you are not a care bear... A care bear is a PvP player that QQ as soon as he loose something by dying in PvP, may it be exp or loot.

Rude posts have gone away. It is a violation of this forum's rules to insult other members for any reason. No exceptions.

Not everyone gets this at first, but you guys don't have to get offended and angry every time someone suggests something that you don't like. Final arbiters of what gets implemented will be the Devs of the game, not "Joe Forum Member." If you disagree with a thread, the expectation is that all of our members are capable of explaining why calmly, rationally, and in a civil manner.

On topic: As an old EVE player, I get the appeal of systems like this. (I was a miner that didn't even actively engage in PVP and still felt it was a unique setup that worked well for an MMO.)

But personally, not every game needs to have a mechanic you like shoe-horned into it. EVE works well because the game was designed from the ground up with specific goals. You can't just flip some switches and have what you're looking for in a game that wasn't initially made for the PVP the OP is asking for. It wouldn't play out as good as a game designed from the get-go for that manner of PVP.

In other words: I like peanut butter. I like chocolate. I like to put peanut butter on my chocolate bars and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are amazing. But that doesn't mean I want every chocolate bar to be sold with a layer of peanut butter on it when what I'm really looking for is a Reese's anyway.

No. I'm sorry, but a significant portion of the player base does not like the idea of open world PvP....in fact I dare say that your opinion is part of the minority. Please acknowledge that this game is not tailored toward hard-core PvPers, it is supposed to cater to a wide variety of players from TES fans to PvEers to PvPers and etc. Their player base was already shortened with the subscription, no need to narrow it further.

I respect your opinion and all, but your idea will infringe on my player experience (and many others). Give the game a chance.

A care bear is a magical bear with powers to spread cheer and happiness. You, and others of your ilk, have turned the word into an insult, the same way that you use terms like "casual," "noob," and "really devoted fan" to deride anyone who doesn't like being abused/bullied in a game.

Didn't do any dmg to Ultima Online, I thought it was awesome to be able to loot other players corps and at the same time run the risk of having my corps looted.... To top it casting spells required raw ragents, and players could kill your mounts.

Yes there was tramal where pvp didn't happen but most players sliped through the moon gate to pvp, really made you be on the ball when leaving the guarded area's of town.

It didn't do any damage to UO because it was the only option at the time.

This is a terrible idea, it already casts out those who just want to play PVE and do people actually believe SWTOR is a failure? While you can play it for free the game is still successful enough that the servers are still up, if it wasn't then it would have come down by now especially when we consider that it's an EA game, they wouldn't stand idly by and waste money on a game that wasn't bringing any revenue in.

Yes a care bear is a magica bear in a cartoon series for the 80's. But it also started in Ultima Online to be some one who cried allot over that he/she got dry looted in PvP. It's how you use the word. Not the word in it self that has any meaning. Like calling some noob is not insulting in it self. But calling some one that have played the game for a year a noob can be insulting in the same way as it can be an insult to call a 40 year old man a kid. But calling a kid a kid is not insulting at all.

I kind of like the way they did it already. Because sometimes i don't feel like getting my butt kicked, so i think just doing pve would be a nice break. I'm not a heavy pvper but my god, the angry Joe video i saw of pvp looked so incredible. I wanted to pass on this game due to the Imperial Edition stunt they pulled, but i don't think i can anymore. I've been waiting for a game with this kind of pvp for a very very long time. Now, i just hope we don't get too many rude people that make pvp not fun for the not so good pvpers. ;)

No a carebear is someone who will not play on a full pvp server. I am not that either. However, full pvp, full loot, etc....it creates an unbalanced system where casual players are oppressed by hard core players. I stand by what I said. The system has no support for casual play. At least having the option for a carebear server is a must....and as an avid mmo player who dates back to Diablo and DII, I have never even heard of Rust, which says a lot about the size of its community.

I don't know. The PvP map is huge already. It is bigger than some popular MMO's entire world maps. When you have such a huge PvP-only area, I really don't see a reason for even more.

My subscription expires 60 Days from now since it just renewed yesterday. I will give ESO a go "if" on release day or a few days after all goes well and the game is actually worth while. If not back to SWTOR which imo didn't fail and last time I checked it had about 2 million subs since f2p. That or go back to WoW.

2mil users since f2p surely they had 2mil subs at launch and 500k after a few months. Coming from a CE owner servers died fast as did my own 100 player guild. If they had 2mil subs now ea would be screaming it all over the place.

Maybe some noobs from WoW have tried to make it mean that but that is not what it meant several years before WoW came out. Learn your gamer history.

PS: Diablo and Diablo 2 is in no way MMORPGs. They are multiplayer hack n slash games. :bonk:

PPS: And if you have not heard of Rust just means you only follow the mainstream gaming industry on Fox News.

Nice try but so wrong. Elder Scrolls will not fail because of PVP. I don't know if you've been following the game for the past 20 years but it's been a single player PVE game. If anything the PVPers will be the one's causing problems for Elder Scrolls.

Here we go insulting people again. I am very well aware what carebear meant in UO. All language evolves. For example...back in the day of Shakespeare we said "wherefore art thou"...now days we say "why are you."
We disagree...you'll live. I PROMISE. Now can you please stop trying to insult me?

Just because some kids with no knowledge about anything start to use an expression wrong does not mean it has changed. And your example of how the English language have changed is bad as it's not the same words. And where did I insult you. Sure if the shoe fits... But in no where have I called you anything. I have only talked about general groups of players. I bet you would get personally insulted if I sad that most Republicans have an IQ under 100 too.

FIRST: I wish developers would simply make those kinds of changes for those people who want them in its own box so we who want to come home from work, do a few quests, take a keep, do some crafting, and go to bed can still have fun. You don't have to force players to play that kind of crap NOR do you have to completely prevent those who want it from playing it. Simply section off some players into a version of the game with those kinds of rules BAMB, just like that your game appeals to both crowds.

SECOND: It seems to me that what is really going on is you have narcissistic psychotics who actually get off on ruining other people's fun and what they really want is a system where they can take a big [censored] in someone's day by being able to do these kinds of things. Therefore they don't WANT to be quarantined off into their own little world where they fight amongst themselves in this manner, but instead actually WANT to be put in the world with people like me so they can try to ruin my precious little time to play. To this I say go to hell :P

THIRD: The game will not flop. It might not ever have WoW's numbers, but I know there are people out there like myself who are just flat out sick and tired of the same old same old. SWTOR flopped because it was WoW with Star Wars elements.

ESO is only like WoW in the sense that it has zones, and in truth WoW's world is more connected and loadingless for the most part compared to ESO. So even though that is a negative for ESO it is different from WoW even in this respect.

ESO = TES lore / World + Amazing Crafting + Amazing Character Creation + Actiony Combat + EXPLORATION UP THE WAZUE + SWTORish quests (though with fewer dialogue options) + DAoC RvR.

Its BIGGEST downfall is that the world is zoned off. But EACH ZONE is huge (minus the starting zones) and is structured like a miniature TES game in that you can run around and just do stuff in each zone, explore, etc. So... no it won't flop. It will appeal to many of us who are just flat out sick and tired of playing the same damn kind of game for the last 10 years.

Sunrock has nothing nice or positive to say. I think this person needs to go PvP and get out some aggression.
