Current games being "backwards compatible" has nothing to do with the programmers. It's entirely on the console developers and how they make their consoles.

Additionally, just because a new console can run "old" games, doesn't mean that they'll somehow use new features - new consoles and new features take time to learn how to program for... a game made for the previous generation isn't going to have hidden code somewhere that will suddenly activate when you stick it into next-gen hardware.




(I also seriously doubt that the X720 will be out nearly that quick.)

edit: and as a further aside, games for the current gen that are "still in the pipeline" don't suddenly get bumped up to the next gen - it's not worth the development time, money, delays, etc.... (new PS2 games kept coming out for awhile, even after the PS3 was released, let alone announced.)

Yeah even if they do announce one (which i doubt they will) you wont be seeing it until 2013 im guessing.

I see no problem here.

They've just spent millions (At least) on new features to expand the lifetime of the current consoles (Kinect and Move), they aren't then going to turn around and bring out the next gen so soon after.

If they were, it would have been a far better move to save the new features for the new consoles and A) Have a big selling point for the new consoles B) Give a reason for exchanging straight away C) Having an excuse to jack the price up even higher (Remember the PS3s launch price? All down to the big expensive Bluray player packed inside)

You're probably looking at at least late 2012/early 2013 before the media even gets a full on playtest.

There is no way the new xbox will be out at the end of the year or early next year. That is laughable, were did you get that info from? And why would you believe it? Don't just believe everything you read on the net.

if they did release the consoles in 2011 which this is the first ive heard of. i would be super pissed off. if that was the case i would rather have bethesda wait an extra year to upgrade the graphics and add in all the additional physics and visual bells and whistles. after playing witcher 2 i have a feeling that skyrim will not even come close to matching that.

everyone else has been saying that late 2012 was the earliest for the release. i just want to see the specs on the systems to see if they learned their lesson having sufficient RAM and having a harddrive on the default system.

There won't be another console till 2013 at the earliest, I believe Sony even said they want PS3 to be another 10 year system like the PS2.

Microsoft started searching for designers for their next console a few months ago. Full development will take one to two years at least.

As much as i'd love to see new consoles from Sony and Microsoft this year or early next year, I really can't see it happening. 2013 is more likely.

Give the PS4 a few years

i think this is BS. Microsoft won't be making a new console when there is so much new ground being covered on the 360 still, graphics keep getting better and better and there is still a booming industry around the 360 it would be a waste of money on their part i think.
