Bad Crash

Hi All.

I hope someone can help me out please.

I'm having s real problem trying to fix a bad crashing game. :brokencomputer:

I'm trying to get to Sancre Tor for the Quest Blood of the Divines.

Level 20 347 hrs game play.

The problem started with the game crashing as I was approaching Sancre Tor. I tried working around it by going into Ninedava to do another quest.
After coming out I've tried various routes to get into Sancre Tor without any success.

I ran TESEdit and it showed a problem with another Mod. The Mod has been removed, Done a clean save inside Ninedava,Now when I try to leave the game is crashing so I can not get out.

I've ran the New load order in TES4 and it is showing that there are no problems.

I've been there many times in the past with old games without any problems.

Did you keep the save where it was crashing when approaching Sancre Tor at all. This may not help in your case, but what I do when I have a consistent crash in one area is get as close as possible to the area just before the crash and make a separate save. Then I console "tcl" and see if I can see anything out of the ordinary, the things that I have done is disable spawns which in one instance stopped the crash and another time it was lod setting, another was combat between two spawns which was the cause of the ctd. It's a game with a lot of hours to lose, I would try backtracking and load a prev save up and try and resolve the crash at sancre tor.

The only saves I have now are Inside Ninedava. I've tried waiting for 4 days but I still can not get out.

I've checked the saves in Wrye.Looking at the colour of the saves there all perfect, so I don't understand why I can not get out.

I wonder if it is possible to try and load an Old save by trying to find it in Wrye Bash.

If the game is cooked, learning how to use Bain here i come lol :read:

Failed again :cry:

Exactly what happens.

I'm being allowed out of the Door,then it crash's.

Going into Wrye I'm getting a message "The following save files have corrupted Headers: Autosaves.ess"

Can I fix this or is this game now History? :violin:

You can coc testinghall (or other location) to get your character out... it will buy you some time to troubleshoot and find out if you can go other places. If that works, try waiting out the respawn period (usually 3 days) in an interior location to let the cells reset.
I would also get in the habit of making fresh hard saves every time (and keeping a larger number) ... overwriting other saves can sometimes result in corruption ... try not to load from autosaves or quicksaves unless absolutely necessary.

Okay well, I'm sorry :( The number of hours you had on that game made me wonder. I know stuff goes haywire after a certain number of hours I just couldn't remember what the number was.

Hope the testing hall suggestion can at least get you out of your situation until more knowledgeable folks can get in here to help.

OuijaU. Its not just the lost hours. I've said when this game crashes and Burns I'll be doing my First Full FCOM build.Thats the real worry lol :whistling:

Slightly different question.

If you use a Translated Mod say From German into English. If it has been left in German, Can this cause a Problem with A Modded game where it is all in English?

I'm not sure if we're supos to be using Cobl Tweaks or OOO WaterFish, I think that was just an FCOM thing, and not sure on their status for now anyway... :shrug:

That should teleport you out and into the testing hall. If you can get that far, make a save (don't overwrite, just save to a new slot), wait 4 days there, then make another save (new slot). Then exit the door, once you are in the outside world you can fast travel to anywhere you want.

And I am unsure on your translated mod question, I've never used one before.

I hope you rebuilt the Bashed patch, updated NPC levels and waited full respawn period + 1 day.
Could be a bad mesh though and it took Skycaptain a week to pinpoint his last winter, bless him.
Or could be dependency to references removed with uninstalling a mod (leftovers)
Finding the problem shows dedication.
If not - start again.
After all, tinkering with your game becomes something of maso-experience you get addicted to. :D

Hope you keep your char alive.

Blade of Mercy. I rebuild Bashed patch after every alteration.

Tell me about it.I spend more time updating Mods than playing.This is the Only major problem I've ever had ad not been able to fix lol

A real frustration is having early all the Mod tools to fix it,but ot knowing how to use the properly.Trying to find easy to use Guides is like trying to find a Pork Free Pig in Israel lol

If I can't fix this with your reply might be a blessing in disguise.I've noticed your 50 Steps To A Stable FCOM.I'll be trying that next lol :D

Just for future reference, with quicksaves its best to make a save from the menu at least twice every level, preferably fresh slots so that you've got something to fall back on. I use quicksave myself but I have all forms of autosave turned off and you probably already know this but using quickload to load your save game is not recommended. Anyway sorry you couldn't resolve this, but maybe next time you'll be able to exceed Shikishima's 2,000 hour paladin :blink:

If you do happen to get a consistent crash in the game again its best to try to resolve it then and there. These types of crashes are much easier to find the cause of than frequent random crashes that sometimes plague save games.

I've followed your instructions upto waiting 4 days then making a New Save.

I've tried going out using the door behind me,but that seems to be the Creature testing room. tried using fasttravel from testinghall. I'm Told you can't fasttravel from here.

how do I get out please?

WOW!!! Some place that testing hall is lol :woot: looks like an intresting place to visit when I know how to escape lol

There is a door in the center pillar, to the right and a little behind where you appeared when you were transported there. It exits to a small town called Hawkhaven... once you are outside in the town you can fast-travel to any known location. (In fact, you have to, in order to get back to Cyrodiil.) Just don't go too far outside the boundaries of the town unless you are ready for a fight.

Just as a side note, you can run multiple character profiles with Wryebash, each PC with different mod sets if you like. (That means you don't have to wait until this character dies to start a new one.)
I have a number of PCs between the 300-500 hr mark (still have the first Oblivion character I ever made, vanilla-turned-FCOM) ... and am bringing along some newbies as well. With the veterans, there have been times when I was in a situation like yours, but so far have always managed to pull them out. So it's possible... I'm glad to see you're sticking with it.

Thank you very much for the information.

When I went into the room directly behind my maroon map mark had changed from Marroon to green..
before that i did a little exploration.being nosey more like lol :whistling: I had a Quest message pop up saying I had found Sancre Tor,but there was no way out of that room.

I tried the hawkhave room which crashed straight away.I'll try again and report back.

This is looking like the End of the road for mr347 with my Master Blade perk.Which Rocks lol :rock:

Almost time to start looking at what's needed for a Full FCOM convertion kit.

Have you cleaned your mods? This really, really , REALLY helps the game run a lot more stable and drasticly decreases the chances of corrupted saves. And for the record, if Wrye Bash reports your savegames have corrupted headers, it's end of the line. Corrupted saves can not be restored. Lesson well learnt: Always keep MULTIPLE saves so whenever something like this hapens you don't lose all your progress.

Translations should not cause issues. In any case I believe that specific mod is rather unclean. There is no reliable way to automatically clean all your mods. It isn't a very difficult process:

I'm still CTD No matter from which angle. I've even tried "tcl" with the same result :facepalm:

How can I find out the Cause and the Cure please? Should go away from Sancre Tor,Do another Quest, then come back and try again later?
