BAD GIRL ON THE MOVE

Post » Wed Apr 16, 2014 7:37 pm

It's not even that strict. Back when New Vegas was the cool thing most people talked about whatever. It is when you go overboard that it becomes a problem.

Thanks, it's good to be back. And I appreciate it. :)

Whether getting drunk is fun or not isn't the issue though, it might be fun for people. But so is mastvrbating. You don't go around shamelessly talking about that on a PG13 forum either, do you? And you don't demand that it be allowed just because you like to be obnoxious. At least that's the way I see it, I could be wrong too. :P

I'm not having a sense of entitlement, God!

I don't think you realize how much I love this place and its people, so I naturally want to discuss NSFW because I am honestly interested in the opinions of the users here! It's about the community, and most of the people here are old geezers/20 somethings ANYWAYS!!!

Yeah, I know it ain't a democracy, but it don't mean I have to like it. But that also doesn't mean I'm going to protest the forum in a fit of rage...

Some guy had how much he liked mastvrbating in his sig back in the day. And muffins, specifying not at the same time thankfully.

Then create a topic to talk in about something constructive at least. Just think of something and then get a discussion going. Something hopefully not spammy like this, and not against the rules.

If you ever want to talk then you can send me a PM, and I'm sorry that someone else hasn't extended the same offer. But bragging about drinking isn't going to be popular here. Maybe you're just feeling depressed and you want to have fun with people, and that's fine. So I'm here for you if you need someone to just chill out with. :)

Now you're being childish. You already are in the banhammer territory. Btw, this kind of behavior is incredibly unattractive in case you didn't realize it. I hope you don't act this way in real life.

Sister, that's not the way to do it! Mentioning ones appearance or by posting how vulnerable you are(drunk) gives you attention, but the shallow kind. The people that want depth are going to avoid you! Even then, people will think there's a catch. A girl posting how drunk she is? She must have a disease/ugly/fat and all that other nasty business! Save yourself the heartache and the insults, dear.

I understand that, and I didn't mean to single you out in particular, I was talking about a general feel of people who do seem to have that sense. I love the place too, but the reason the place is the way it is - is precisely because of those rules. Do you know of any places with no rules that have a civil community? If you allow it, it'll eventually devolve into a mess like most other online forums with immature members.

The reason it is so mature now is because those snotty teens and people who spam about random nonsense or flame get warned, banned or just bored here. So only mature members are left. That's why we have a mature community - the one we both like so much. If you drop those rules, within a year, all those spammers and immature people take over, the mature people leave, and this becomes just any other forum. I just don't like how some people can't see that, and feel they should think about the long run consequences of dropping rules.

You can have civility whilst also having a wider array of mature topics to discuss, you can filter out politics, spam and flaming without filtering out everything.

The fact remains that maintaining an atmosphere suitable for people who shouldn't even be playing the vast majority of the games hosted on the site is imo an odd move. Not that I'm complaining, it'd be nice to have a looser atmosphere, but I've liked it here for a long while with the strict rules, probably for the same reasons you mentioned.
Basically I like the strictness of this forum, but would apply it differently if I was Gstaff. And as much as we'd all like to think differently I'm not Gstaff.

I've seen large and decent internet communities out there with less strict rules than here. It can be done. Nothing is stopping them from easing up some of the rules on discussion, and then just remaining strict with the new limits. Other than the corporate overlords who dictate the rules though, so it won't happen.

I'm not around enough to get it anyway. :P

What I am against however, is turning a place I love to interact with people into another #chan board. So I want to at least provide some perspective. Though I'm pretty sure it'll be lost in the long run since the person posting is apparently drunk.

The subject matter isn't what degrades a forum, it's the moderation. Even with the stringent rules and restricted topics, the mods are constantly hard at work enforcing the rules. They'd still have to enforce rules if some of the subject matter restriction was eased, but it'd allow for far better discussion flow around here. It's pretty sad that there isn't even a subforum for it specifically, like politics or a poll on members sixual orientation. People would still flame and get in trouble, but people still get in trouble as it is now. This community is good because it is heavily moderated, but it can still be good even if they laxed up on policy.

So allow a topic with people bragging about being drunk? Is that what you'd want? Bear in mind, we've had threads about alcohol/wine-tasting or smoking/cigar or cigarette brand discussions before. But most forget it's still a gaming forum at the end of the day, regardless of the fact that somehow, the majority of the CD frequenting members are mature.

No one is saying don't be who you are. Just be who you are somewhere suitable and when the time is right - else risk being warned, or worse, banned.

Edit: An online forum doesn't owe you anything. Not accepting a certain type of behaviour is their prerogative. Is it bad? Perhaps. But that's how it is.

No, and this thread will be locked pretty soon, illustrating my point. As you have pointed out yourself, the topic isn't always the problem, it's the way it's brought up.

I don't expect or feel obligated to anything.

Rules, or laws, should be question and, if necessory, brokened...hehehehe. That was the point of ths topic...to question authority..not to challenge..I am not challenging the mods, only questioning them.

I can't disagree with that. I suppose it's true, what you propose isn't unreasonable at all. But it's at the discretion of the admins and mods. It would seem like too much work and with not much benefit. Furthermore (I could be wrong here completely but) I've heard they used to be lax once upon a time. But there was a lot of flaming and jaded members as a result.

There does exist a forum called BGSFans and it was meant to be a forum with more lax rules but attract the same community. I have an account there. Played a few "forum games" and had a few "political arguments" but eventually ended up coming back here. I don't know if that forum ever gained any real traction save for with one clique of members.

There are ways to do that. Like in a PM. Not in a thread with random spam and Youtube links to songs for the heck of it. All you're doing is making a mockery of whatever uprising you think you're fighting for, and if anything, is making your case worse.
