Bad guard pathing on roads

Post » Thu Apr 14, 2011 4:13 am

Hi,

Whenever I find guards on the roads around the IC, they're either stuck on a stretch of road or taking a long, awkward detour to get around it. It happens whether there's one guard or two, and when the road is completely empty. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks

I doubt that has anything to do with a mod, that's just the way the pathfinding in the game works. The AI will go for the shortest distance between 2 points and that quite often means taking them off the road and through the bush. While it may seem to you like an awkward detour, it's actually the most efficient path they can take.

When NPCs are travelling in the Tamriel worldspace for several cells, they don't follow the pathgrids, they instead follow the ROAD grid. The ROAD grid from the original game is highly inaccurate, which is why NPCs often leave the road and walk alongside it or take shortcuts where the road bends or doubles back on itself. Arthmoor produced a more accurate ROAD record a year or two ago, and included it with Open Cities in a separate ESP. It was of course tailored for use with Open Cities, so the ROAD grid will pass through cities rather than stop at their gates, but away from the cities, it's much more accurate than in the vanilla game.

The UOP as of 3.2.0 also contains a ROAD record which was updated strictly for vanilla use. It got corrected further with the UOP Supplementals to fix some breaks. Since OnmyojiOmn is using the UOPS, the ROAD record should be up to date unless one of the other mods is altering it, which doesn't appear likely unless ROM did it.

It's been awhile since I updated my UOP, I guess I'll have to get around to doing that.
