Bad guy companion?

Post » Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:07 pm

Anyone else think we need a bad apple companion?

Some sort of sidekick or otherwise just nasty character. All the companions in F:NV are either neutral or friendly. I'd like it if there was atleast one companion who would only join you once your karma was low enough.

EDIT:

Actually to expand on that I have a suggestion for the addition of two companions:

1) A mischevous dirty cowboy type of character. His quest(s) would be some sort of robbery. Stuff like that. A rotten apple but not exactly evil.

2) An ex-slaver turned legion supporter. This guy would be a real nasty apple. He had been slaving across the mojave but was being chased down by NCR rangers. That's why he joined the legion.

A bad companion would be good but to have him/her you'll have to be a bad character. Not that that is a bad thing. If the follower is Legion that would just push the ideas "hey theses are the bad guys" in a game which tries to show the Legion has upsides. A character that is hated by all would mean you'll get shot at as well. I guess would be a character that has a bad rep but is not known to NCR or Legion.

yes.

Name-Virgil
Age-29
Weapons-Baseball Bat and a Unique Silenced Marksman Carbine (slightly weaker but silenced)

Perk- depending on how companion quest plays out
Assasin- stealth is increased by 10 and sneak attack criticals do 15% more damage.
Dealer- barter is increased by 15 and you make twice as much money when selling Chems.

Backstory- A former Omerta hitman who was betrayed and left for dead by a former friend. He now resides in the Atomic Wrangler, where he dreams to someday hunt down the one who betrayed him, and get revenge.

Personality- At sometimes he can be a kind (but a bit sarcastic) man, but at othertimes he can seem like a downright cruel person. his past with the Omertas taught him never to trust anyone, and to never let someone to close to you. He has a Dark and somewhat depressing outlook on life.

Depending on how things play out in his companion quest, he will become livelier and more comical, or darker and even more distant.

Companion Quest- you find out that His Former friends brother is staying at the Tops casino so you and Virgil decides to go pay him a visit, you go and beat him (or speech check him) until he reveals his brothers whereabouts. You Learn that the former friend (who by the way is named Zack ) is Residing in Novac temporarily.
When you go and meet him, he reveals that the only reason he betrayed Virgil is because if he didn't, Nero would murder his wife. It turns out Nero had become paranoid that someone was trying to assassinate him, and suspected Virgil to be the perpetrator. Nero (who also feared Zack would betray him) had Zacks wife killed and attempted to have Zack killed as well. Fortunately Zack escaped and decided to head west and start a new life.

He tells you that you may as well kill him, because he deserves to die for helping the Omertas in the first place.

you can choose weather or not to kill him.

Well, there was supposted to be a companion called Ulysses, which is the Latin (Roman -- therefore Ceasar's Legion) for Odysseus, the king of Ithaca in Homer's Odyssey. As he is Legion, I can safely assume he's 'a bad guy'.

I don't think we need a "bad" companion, but rather more companions which are... Complicated... Not necessarily "evil", but what they do are something of a gray area.
Like a Khan member, they're raiders and drug dealers and absolutely HATE the NCR, but they only do what they do so that they can survive.
So I think we should get more companions that are more complex.
Doesn't have to be as ridiculous as Boone is though.

You know how some companions automatically attack certain people in certain factions? Wouldn't be crazy if there was a bad guy companion that automatically attacked innocent civilians? Including quest givers?

Depending on the person, one would either be really pissed off or really amused.

Amused Person: Hey, Look at him go! He completely wiped out whole town in minutes! Muhahahaha!

Pissed Off Person: Dammit!! It took me hours to finish this quest, and you just killed Dr. Whathisfaceincampmccarran!

I'd hate that companion.
There's no reason for someone to attack innocent civilians.
Maybe rob them, [censored] them, raid them, hurt them because they're alligned with a faction this guy/gal doesn't like.
But just attacking them?
Makes no sense.
So no thanks.

I would really like Dead Sea as a companion though.
After his personal quest is over he will change to a new personalized armor which means he'll attack NCR on sight. (Prior to his personal quest he will wear a disguise only for the reason of his personal quest, after he is finished with it he has no more reason to "hide".)
Would make for an interesting companion.

I would like a companion that would help me to be Evil. You know, it would say things like "Go ahead, steal it, no one is looking" and then it would create a distraction for me. Of course I would have to fed them Chems to keep them from going Berserk with the need for a new fix, or not.

Think companion AI could handle that though? ;)

This is really outstanding. Great idea and kudos for the thorough description. I'm playing a chaotic evil assassin/brawler on my second playthrough... very hard/hardcoe... and I'm really in a quandary on which companions to work with. Leaning towards cass for the whiskey perk and moonshine and she's definitely a "I don't give a $hite" type of person. But, I could also go with the brotherhood chick... have her be the tank and I can rove around punching people's kidneys...

That's why google translate is your good friend when it comes to single words. Facetious = sk?mtsam.

And I still want Joshua Graham as a companion. The king of badasses, so evil and foul-mouthed, and he also hates the Caesar's Legion because they "killed" him and wants his revenge on them. So... That's an evil companion to use against the Caesar's Legion, but he wouldn't team up with NCR either. So then there'd be four followers that are against CL... we need someone who is for them. Raul "doesn't mind" them. That's why I think they should put Ulysses back in, a CL follower. And a follower like CCNA suggested - not a devil reincarnated, not aligned to CL or NCR, but still he's not either good or neutral, he'd give you "bad" advices, trying to make you "evil" and "criminal" (I'd rather call it giving you advice how you will recieve the most benefits/money from people without having feelings or human lives in mind) Occasionally need to be fed with drugs, some fave drug he has. Maybe he also likes to gamble, so when he follows you inside a casino, he'd make comments on how much he want to gamble, maybe go into dialogue with you if it's ok for him to go gamble while you do your business, or if you will need him. Then when you come back he will have a nice debt on his ass.

Yeah, he'd go over and talk to the nearest person so you could pick their pocket. That would be fun as hell.
