bad habits, time to come clean

Post » Sat Jan 30, 2016 8:47 pm

so we all have a bad habit while playing pc games. not specifically fo4, but if you got one, list it.

mine is saving my games.

i got a F5 button for quick save, yet i get so involved in the game, i die and suddenly think, oh bother, when did i save last??? and 9/10 times, it was NOT recently!

Staying up way past my bed-time or until dawn during the weekends...

(as for saving the game, I just deleted over 1000 Fallout 4 saves and probably still have like 300 or so hahaha) Maybe my bad habit is saving too often? :D

isn't that rather a bad non-habit? :-)

for my part anyway, with skyrim, i had _finally_ overcome my worst (esp. beth-)game habit: pick up literally every single piece of sh* i come across.

AND NOW FO4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gnnnnnn.... :-))

and, also clutter-related, i frantically collect toys. teddy bears, toy cars, trucks, wooden blocks, you name it.

freud certainly would have stg to say to this. i don't. :-)

Quick-save and hoarding. I only keep 5 save slots (a hard-save, 3 auto-saves and one quick-save), but quick-save gets an incredible amount of use. I'll admit, I have on occasion, quick-saved, walked 3 steps and quick-saved again. I don't even realize I'm doing it sometimes. It just... happens...

As for hoarding, I've gotten better with my third play-though. This time, I'm a *bit* more selective about what I pick up. No more folders or burnt books and mags. But I still need to make several trips home to unload after every outing. Thank goodness containers are bottomless!

According to the OP...this topic is only about PC users/games?

I guess with two MMOs I have, I have a bad habit of not opening them up frequently enough, so then I have a butt-load of updates to have downloaded/installed, so then that makes me wait longer in order to play once I want to play.

For FO4 specifically ( I play on PS4), no bad habits I can think of. Quicksaving a lot is actually a good thing for this game.

I have a really bad habit of designing characters perk selection in a excel spreadsheet up to 30-50 levels. Then starting that character and choose completely deferent perks! Then I get annoying and re-roll... I've got about 5 characters right now that have only made it to level 10

Staying up late. When I played Civilization a lot it was worse, oh but I'm 2 turns from making a settler..Click.. 2 hours later.

Also the 'epic click' as my friends have dubbed it. Where I'll click, but not release as I ponder.

My bad "gaming habit?" Wasting hours and hours of my life which I could be spent on "useful" undertakings (such as Calculus homework or fixing that C++ code I wrote or even, Atom forbid, playing FO4!_) reading and posting on game community boards! :nerd:

I concur with staying up WAY too late. Sometimes it's 5 to 8 AM before I go to bed.

It starts with telling myself, "OK, I need to just get to the quest location and save and quit and make dinner". Then I find I've gotten engrossed in another quests or two, and a couple hours later, I'm eating dinner at 7 or 8, instead of 5 or 6.

I save way too often and it affects loading times. I have to go in and clean out my save file periodically.

I play the game instead of sleeping.

I cheat up charisma to pass the flirt speech checks with the companions and then forget to lower it again and suddenly find myself able to convince NPCs to do things I shouldn't be able to do. Oops.

Getting closer and closer to the fork in the story line, then stopping play because I can't bare to pick one path over the other. :(
