=FAIL.

The Vulgar language in Skyrim won't say the F bomb and stuff, it's obviously a fantasy realm so they have there own cuss words and such, Fallout was a fantasy realm of Earth so you had to expect similiar cuss words while your fighting mutants, hell i would be cussing the whole time if i was in Fallout:)

That's the way I see it. There are so many ES related curses which have no connotation to our modern language which mean they can sidestep it. Plus, if they wanted to, they could go for "olde worlde" swearwords. There's no censor on here for queynte as far as I know - maybe it's the same for games ratings.

"olde worlde" swear words would be cool if they do that. Maybe for the Nords. Modern day swears is a culture thing so it could feel weird for that to be in the game imo.

Can anyone confirm them spoken ever in morrowind or prior games?

It wasn't in Morrowind.

Probably no worse than Oblivion. Maybe the rating boards have laxed a bit.

At the bottom of the site we can see that Skyrim is rated M for Blood And Gore, Intense Violence, sixual Themes and Use of Alcohol. I doubt it's a typo because it's the same way for the new "Todd Howard Talks Dragons" video from PAX. And obviously Oblvion had mild language and it's on their rating. I don't know, I don't get it. Skyrim is the home of the Nords and nobody can tell me that they're not going to be drunk and disorderly and not cursing half the time. Anyone else notice this? Sorry if it's been brought up.

They dont need official swear and curse words in TES they can just make up their own words to fit the game Lore-wise (think battlestar galactica and their fictional word "frack").

This way players dont have to worry about taking actual offense from being cursed at too much in-game and when they do hear a fictional word thats a curse they can just find it hilarious and only mildly insulting.

Yeah. I also want it in the dialogue. I wanna walk up to a drunk nord and start calling him a [censored] little useless piece of.... That would start a fight right there.

Bringing back the ability to 'persuade' someone to attack you first would be great!!

Damn and Bastard are the only swear words I can recall in Oblivion and I can only recall hearing them a few times.

Well I do know of one orc in particular who liked to use the GD combo quite liberally.

Maybe Falanu Hlaalu was forced out of Skingrad and winds up in Skyrim? :)

It wouldn't feel right to hear characters in a medieval fantasy setting dropping F-bombs. I'd prefer to just hear the made-for-TES swear words, like n'wah, and maybe words like damn and bastard.

Definitely among my favorite NPCs. She always sounded so excited whenever I told her how much the fine was.

As most have said unique swear words are where it is at. :P

Damn and bastard are perfectly fine as they have been around forever. I'd consider them ye olde swear words.

Indeed. Morrowind had several "bad" words in it, but they were all fictional so they didn't count. I hope that is the case with Skyrim too, much nicer to hear an insult like n'wah or whatever instead of a regular swear.

Yes swearing is cultural, any religious swears would be totally out of place, most of the other modern would also feel out of place anyway.
I liked the cursing in Oblivion.

To clarify, the rating at the bottom of the screen is likely for Oblivion, as I don't think Skyrim is rated yet. It's the same on the Oblivion Mod's forum as well, so I assume it's just the highest rating of the games that they have on this forum, or at least the TES forums.

Edit: I'm right. Skyrim isn't rated yet, that is for Oblivion, as it is the highest rated game in discussion on the forums so they put it up there.

Proof: http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp (if it doesn't come up with the results, just type in "The Elder Scrolls" and Skyrim won't be listed.)

So you can't really use that box at the bottom of the screen for anything Skyrim related.

any other game i would beg for Swear words....TES is one of the few games that is actually better without real world swear words because it alreay has a nice selection of its own, and they sound good

But i hope they use words like Piss, Dam, Ass and Crap
but not the 7 deadly cuss words fallout uses it wont flow with the game itself

All we had in oblivion swear-wise was: Bastard, damn and bugger. I would like to keep it that way ( as well as thier own swear words of course ).
I don't think we need "F"-word etc in skyrim,despite the setting,culture.

I do however, remember from a while back ,some concept art showing a bearded nord in elven armour giving the one fingered jesture. I wonder if stuff like that is in the game?
I don't remember if things like that were mentioned about the game, think it was only seen in concept art....or was taunting talked about at some point?....was a good while ago though.

The "one fingered gesture" can also have different meaning depending on culture so it wouldn't make sense.

I see what you mean, but the way the concept art was drawn etc is was meant as a taunt/bad jesture...as in, what that jesture means in english terms.
They may have been having fun in the concept art,but either way it was shown. I maybe dreamt this ,but i could of swore that a taunt option was there or mentioned....like i said it was a while ago.It was back when GI did their article.

They will probably go the Dragon Age route, and have characters say "sod" instead of ****

I don't recall any of the tes games really having to resort to outright vulgar terms, there are many colorful things to use and can make up words. They have been cleavered.

They did fallout 3 which has colorful language aplenty. However as many have pointed out, TES has it's own brand of swear words and I would like it to be continued and expanded.

It somewhat fit in the world of Fallout, but I think the worst curse word in Oblivion was Damn. I don't know, cussing just doesn't seem to fit the fantasy setting to me. Though Skyrim is almost like an ultra-toned down and realistic fantasy setting. So to help portray the grittyness of Skyrim I suppose they may have it.
