No Bad Language In Skyrim?

Post » Wed Sep 07, 2011 6:48 am

To clarify, the rating at the bottom of the screen is likely for Oblivion, as I don't think Skyrim is rated yet. It's the same on the Oblivion Mod's forum as well, so I assume it's just the highest rating of the games that they have on this forum, or at least the TES forums.

Edit: I'm right. Skyrim isn't rated yet, that is for Oblivion, as it is the highest rated game in discussion on the forums so they put it up there.

Proof: http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp (if it doesn't come up with the results, just type in "The Elder Scrolls" and Skyrim won't be listed.)

So you can't really use that box at the bottom of the screen for anything Skyrim related.

Actually that is Skyrim's rating. The ESRB have always been slow about putting the rating on their site. Red Dead Redemption's rating showed up on the RDR site nearly a month earlier than the ESRB's site. AC: Revelations already has it's rating on the site, but not on the ESRB site.

And you'll notice on the Morrowind section of this site there is a "T" rating. On the Oblivion section, the description is different than this one. I've always paid close attention to the ESRB's ratings, believe me that is the Skyrim rating.

I find it classy when they don't stoop to that "level". Of course this is not to call anyone out who curses themselves but it is my own personal preference.

I like the fact that TES is lacking in the super bad swears. Sometimes it's just nice to know that a game can be violent, epic, humorous, and mature without having to resort to dropping the f-bomb every 2 seconds. I also love when fantasy settings make up their own swears, give the universe its own characterization in a way.

On the note of swears that have been used in previous games, I could have sworn I heard "piss" in Oblivion somewhere. I can't remember where and don't even know if I'm remembering correctly, but I think it was in there somewhere.

I liked "Fur-licker" in Oblivion if you were playing a Khajiit.

They will probably go the Dragon Age route, and have characters say "sod" instead of ****

I prefer "plough" from the witcher2.

Just give me one NPC who swears real bad and it will tide me over. Like that kid on the giant boat in fallout 3 who flipped on you when you asked where his parents were, that kid made my day.

"you move like a pregnant cow!"

seriously though, I honestly prefer the made up in-game swear words to actual ones, more immersive imo. Hope there's a host of new nordic and possibly draconic swear words in skyrim (I would love to be able to swear in dragon :) ).

omg... ive never seen a more pathetic group of politically correct babies....

"bad" words are just that... WORDS! if you get offended by a Nord saying something then firstly, grow up, and secondly, should you even be playing the game?

Nords are based on the Norse of old.. those guys swear more than I do... ive no problem with any game swearing as long as its implemented properly... saying "F**K" every 2 words isnt realistic, but used sparingly it helps to set the scene and immerse you further in the world.... unless youre a baby and can be offended by a GAME...

pfft...

People aren't "pathetic" if they don't like swearing, or feel certain modern words would be jarring. Grow up.

At the bottom of the site we can see that Skyrim is rated M for Blood And Gore, Intense Violence, sixual Themes and Use of Alcohol. I doubt it's a typo because it's the same way for the new "Todd Howard Talks Dragons" video from PAX. And obviously Oblvion had mild language and it's on their rating. I don't know, I don't get it. Skyrim is the home of the Nords and nobody can tell me that they're not going to be drunk and disorderly and not cursing half the time. Anyone else notice this? Sorry if it's been brought up.

There will probably be enough colorful adjectives and expletives that it will seem like every Nord is also a US Marine.

lol

Bethesda has always had "advlt" language in their games. I'm sure Skyrim will be no different.

I have no problems with swear words... but I wouldn't want them in a fantasy game like TES. It wouldn't suit the setting at all.

I just hope for Christ′s sake they don′t make it too sterile/clinical...Fallout 3: lots of cursing and swearing, but six was barely mentioned (extreme violence, lots of cursing, but barely a mention of six...a bit unbalanced if you ask me). Get it?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with swearing. It's a valid part of any language. Let's face it, if someone say, ran over your foot on a bicycle, nobody in their right mind is going to be heard to say "Why you... you dastardly cad!".

It amuses me greatly when people get all uptight about it. To paraphrase Stephen Fry: Swearing in no way indicates a lack of intelligence or stunted vocabulary, and anyone who says otherwise is a [censored] [censored].

That said, I don't think what some people would call the "worst" words should be included in Skyrim. It was absolutely fine in Fallout, but it doesn't fit in TES. There's a time and a place for everything, swearing included.

Well when LukeSkyrimmer still had his channel, the Dunmer video where the audio from the audio leak was synched up to the G4TV E3 demo footage and a small part of the Ausgamers Todd Howard interview. While fighting the spider, I though I heard him (Arvel the Swift) say:
"Get it away from me, f***ing it get away!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQpPgSC-9Ak here the video by LukeSkyrimmer that another user stole.
I'm probably wrong but thats what it sounded like to me.
