No Bad Language In Skyrim?

Post » Tue Sep 06, 2011 9:09 pm

At the bottom of the site we can see that Skyrim is rated M for Blood And Gore, Intense Violence, sixual Themes and Use of Alcohol. I doubt it's a typo because it's the same way for the new "Todd Howard Talks Dragons" video from PAX. And obviously Oblvion had mild language and it's on their rating. I don't know, I don't get it. Skyrim is the home of the Nords and nobody can tell me that they're not going to be drunk and disorderly and not cursing half the time. Anyone else notice this? Sorry if it's been brought up.

There is no word in the dragon language that is not a curse.

I agree...A Nord who doesn't swear would be killed for being a pansy.

Why use real world curse words when they have such a colorful collection of curse words exclusive to the game world?

I would suspect the vulgarity level of the language would be around the same as Oblivion. Maybe ESRB has lessened its standards for what constitutes mild language since Oblivion's release. Or maybe they're just inconsistent, like every rating board.

You want bad language in your Skyrim?

Buy the French version. That's a pretty bad language.

I kid, I kid. Maybe. :P

It probably will, they might have there own words too, in Morrowind the Dunmer called you a N'wah and a swit. They might have something like that, I also expect some mild language.

Indeed. Morrowind had several "bad" words in it, but they were all fictional so they didn't count. I hope that is the case with Skyrim too, much nicer to hear an insult like n'wah or whatever instead of a regular swear.

The only ones from Oblivion are real world words like: Bass-turd & dam (I don't want to spell them out so I did it this way, if this is against forum rules to spell it like this I will erase it.)

I don't recall any of the tes games really having to resort to outright vulgar terms, there are many colorful things to use and can make up words. They have been cleavered.

That's the way I see it. There are so many ES related curses which have no connotation to our modern language which mean they can sidestep it. Plus, if they wanted to, they could go for "olde worlde" swearwords. There's no censor on here for queynte as far as I know - maybe it's the same for games ratings.

Yeah I know just gave some examples from Morrowind just stating it would be possible to have unique game world cursing. I also fully expect to have Oblivion level cursing as well.

I remember a couple of actual swear words in Morrowind too. they were only in, like, two guys' dialogue though

You can't swear in skyrim?! Way the [censored] Not! :verymad:

*Laughs* bad jokes aside, I think of swearing as a artform that the people of skyrim have mastered, especially with all the dragons flying around, so it wouldn't be fair for bethesda to not allow cursing in skyrim due to some dumb reason like saying the F-bomb will be the straw that broke some parents back after they bought there kid a M (at least in the US) rated game. So ya I vote for Free *Beeps*!^_^

Bastard and damn aren't censored, so I'm pretty sure they're fine.

Yeah. I also want it in the dialogue. I wanna walk up to a drunk nord and start calling him a [censored] little useless piece of.... That would start a fight right there.

Fallout had F bombs so if they exclude language... then it's their choice by design, not because they are scared to do it or anything. I hope they add some, it would add to the immersion of a drunken nord bully cursing away at a tavern. Then again, the worst I saw in Oblivion was G-damn. (the ork in the bookshop), so maybe in TES lore they don't drop f or s bombs? Can anyone confirm them spoken ever in morrowind or prior games?
