BAIN Mod Installation Projects

Post » Sun Apr 24, 2011 11:28 pm

Since 282 was out, I decided to bit the bullet on my massive one-shot bain install (actually more like 5-shot since I've got some omod-only sutff). Planned it all, selected my first major batch of addons to install, right-clicked, hit install, and wham... Well, I'd like to say it turned out okay, but it appears I'm going to be sitting for the next hour or two helpless as apparently the method I used to start the install decided it would start at the last package in my load order instead of the first...

Anyways, so I don't make this mistake again, exactly how do you tell Wrye to go through the BAIN package list in order, or do I just manually select each one myself and hit install? Or does the installer always start with the highest order number first (seems counter-intuitive, but the readme states the selecting install as I did would make them go in-order) and work back to 1?

Edit:
Or, now that I thought about it, am I seeing it the wrong way? Does the BAIN install process extract the highest item first, and then simply not extract the conflict items from the items lower on the list when it reaches that point?

Well this thread is mostly about how to package archives to be BAIN ready, but I think I see what your problem is.

Firstly, the installers tab did recognize all the packages you put in - correct? If you waited for 282 can't be that many packages.

Next - and this is the big leap from OMODs - you can arrange the install order of the packages just like you can arrange the load order of plugins.

So if the installers tab did recognize all packages then you will notice that there is a bar at the top of the packages window and one of the columns is 'order' this indicates what order the packages will install files in and determines the outcome of all replacer conflcits.

You can change the install order of each package individually by right clicking on the package then selecting 'move to' and change the install order. Change them to what you want then right click off of the top bar and select 'anneal all' (or only anneal the ones that changes color - at first better to anneal all). That should do it.

Keep in mind that some mods are better as omods ... theNiceOne, Abo, Oblivion Graphics Extender, etc. There may be instances where OBMM installed mods will cause red in your installer tab - it is up to you to track all that.

[edit] to nessin-
lowest order packages install first and higher ones install next overwriting lower numbers. So if you install a higher number package that would overwrite a lower number package then when you install the lower number package yes it will not install the files that would be overwritten anyway. You need to install each package individually (even if there was a batch command I would recommend individually).

Guess I should add that in the instructions somewhere. Sorry thought I answered your question.

PetrusOctavianus-

Thanks, I will most likely not do an FCOM section (Tomlong is doing that) and instead use that section to fill up with examples like this using spoilers tags to put a bunch in one post. So that is one project I will get to in time.

Having finished most of the opening 10 posts - I played Oblivion for the first time last night in over a month. It was fun, still like the game. I'd been taking a break playing witcher and bioshock. But next I plan to return to BAINing the rest of my Fallout 3 (about 60% done) and from there on to morrowind (about 15% done).

"All BAIN and no play makes Psymon a dull boy" - I hope not. :P
Anyway, I've now finished my own big "Other replacers" pack and have finally finsished commenting your own uh...package.
Hopefully it will be useful to some.

NEW - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31062?

Both are odd choices.

I just cracked open the latest (1.30) SM plugin refurbish and it is already packaged for BAIN (sub-packages and all) so maybe what it does is repackage the already complex BAIN archive. Likewise so is All Natural and all the BCF does is combine the AN patch with the main AN BAIN complex package. Certainly AN's next iteration will be self contained BAIN package again.

I would have focused on mods that are older and not BAIN ready at all. For instance repackaging Roberts Male Body 4:
Roberts Male 4-BAIN │ ├[00 Roberts Male v4 Core] ├[01 Beautiful People Compatibility] ├[05 Optional Idles] ├[06 Human Head] ├[07 Orc Head] ├[08 Better Necklines] ├[10 Average nvde BASE] ├[11 Average Cothed - Pants 1] ├[11 Average Cothed - Pants 2] ├[11 Average Cothed - Pants 3] ├[20 Muscular nvde BASE] ├[21 Muscular Clothed - Pants 1] ├[21 Muscular Clothed - Pants 2] ├[21 Muscular Clothed - Pants 3] ├[21 Muscular Clothed - Pants 4] ├[21 Muscular Clothed - Pants 5] ├[22 Muscular Sandals] ├[30 Slender nvde BASE] ├[31 Slender Clothed - Pants 1] ├[31 Slender Clothed - Pants 2] ├[31 Slender Clothed - Pants 3] ├[40 Breeze Defined Male Body - nvde] ├[41 Breeze Defined Male Body - clothed] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Breton] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Dark Seducer] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Darkelf] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Dremora] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Golden Saint] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Highelf] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Imperial] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Nords] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Orcs] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Redgaurds] ├[41 BreezeVascularBody - Woodelf] ├[45 GhogielDefinedMaps for Roberts Male] ├[46 Durza Roberts male v4 - less muscular for Slender] ├[50 Roberts Average Stock Clothes and Armor] ├[50 Roberts Muscular Stock Clothes and Armor] ├[51 Roberts Muscular FCOM Armor]
Which would provide all possible combinations of that body replacer PLUS Breezes maps options and of course the clothing meshes.

Just a suggestion though, perhaps lojack is warming up to the project.

AN is already BAIN-ready. I was just pointing out the link. It said "project' so...Maybe a more...useful BCF will be upload in the future.

I've a question... is having an .esp in a 01 folder with the same name as the 00 folder (meant to replace the 00 .esp if the 01 folder is installed) kosher?

Yes of course the main thing to remember is that sub-packages with higher numbers 00 ... 01 ...02 means that whatever is in the higher numbered will be installed later and if there is duplicate information (another esp named the same) in the higher numbered folder and in the lower numbered folder then the later installing one wins (anologous to load order winning by loading later/lower).

Alpha-numeric naming of the packages determines what installs lower/later, but even in that there is room to play and it is from that some (not many) naming conventions have come about. They are not required though. Say a higher numbered sub-package has one file that is identical to a lower numbered sub-package but the rest is unique. What would happen is that all the contents of the lower numbered sub-package would be installed except the one identical file which would be installed from the higher numbered sub-package plus all of its unique files too.

So if a higher numbered sub-package contains one identical file while the rest is unique then I would number it a higher number too. I really stick with the same numbering if I know the contents of each package are named identical. It is just a visual reminder to myself not to install both and that is is an either/or decision. Other times I may adopt a numbering scheme based on a different logic such as having similar numbered sub-packages to delineate relationships between themes but that are not mutually exclusive.

That is why the term naming conventions because they are just that - conventions.

So here is an example of sorts. This is a package I'm working (not done yet) on with creature retextures:
Creatures Retextures-BAIN

├[10 Dalls Creatures Mature (just textures)]
├[10 Dalls Creatures Mature (just Meshes)]
├[20 Mythic Creatures]
├[25 Mythic Animals]
├[26 Mythic Animals Low Rez]
├[50 Akatosh God Retexture]
├[51 Mehrunes God Retexture]
├[60 Ampol Bones - OBcT]
├[80 Animals - Slaughterfish retex]
├[80 Animals - Slofs Alien Clanfear]
├[80 Animals - Slofs Tiger]

Dall's creatures have the option to just be texture replacers or also create six characteristics on the creatures (via meshes). I named them the with the same prefix but the suffix was different to illustrate they are related, but it could have been different. Mythic Creatures is better (imo) than Dall but not as comprehensive (as I understand it) so if I install Dall first then Mythic creatures then more critters are covered. Likewise having Dalls meshes separated out means I can install just the textures of Dall without worry that including meshes might cause issues with creatures that later had Mythic installed over them. At the bottom of the sub-packages I opted to have all the random animal retextures that are not related with the same prefix of 80 but the suffix being a description of the mod and author. Again it is all just a convention of what works best for you.

What the BAIN tab tracks is alpha numeric ordering - how you play with that is for you to use to help your mind organize the information. I'm no rule baron and have plenty of other packages that follow a different pattern.

Mostly the purpose of the BCFs is a "hey look, you can use wizards in BAIN now!" rather than a "hey look at BCFs!". BAIN wizards got added to WB, and I was trying to demonstrate how you would use them in a similar fashion to OBMM. BCF's just seemed a handy way to distribute them to ensure the packages were arranged correctly for the wizard file to work.

A shame I did not see this thread before.

I am using Tomlong75210's way of packing BAIN installers, but as of now I am already nearing the 300 installer mark, and my list is cluttered with PyFFI'ed releases and RB meshes all over the place. Going to get even worse as I have not touched the texture department yet.

180 - ==Male Body==181 - Robert Male Body v5.0 Beta-25365.7z (DBA7295A)182 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Body.7z (2ADBCBB2)183 - Robert Male - Armamentarium v1.0-18417.7z (928721CC)184 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Armamentarium.7z (24F81E19)185 - Robert Male - Artifacts v1.0-225309.7z (2C84F5D0)186 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Artifacts.7z (A812BD7C)187 - Robert Male Body - Argonian Skin v0.5-22844.7z (66BA3B64)188 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Argonian Skin.7z (829500FC)189 - Robert Male Body - Average v5.0 Beta-27909.7z (D3C69EBB)190 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Body Average.7z (877AB12E)191 - Robert Male Body - Better Hands v1.0-27909.7z (320083C2)192 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Body Better Hands.7z (DFB79578)193 - Robert Male Body - Arena Rainments v1.0-14271.7z (CA4F8439)194 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Body Arena Rainments.7z (174BA581)195 - Robert Male Body - Average Stock Clothing And Armor 0.5-20328.7z (46DBE123)196 - PyFFI Optimized - Average Stock Clothing And Armor.7z (578D1D53)197 - Robert Male Body - Average Stock Clothing And Armor SI v0.1-21055.7z (679F9597)198 - PyFFI Optimized - Average Stock Clothing And Armor SI.7z (90FEF364)199 - Robert Male Body - Lost Paladins Of The Divines v1.0-10505.7z (3F3E99D2)200 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Body Lost Paladins Of The Divines.7z (3D1BFF14)201 - Robert Male Body - 1st Person Fix v1.0-25365.7z (177CF3A3)202 - PyFFI Optimized - Robert Male Body 1st Person Fix.7z (C311AE9A

Even though the above is sorted and makes sense to me, the method Psymon is using (Very Complex BAIN Packages) seems to make a whole lot more sense. It causes less clutter of achieves which all do (pretty much) the same thing.

Got me convinced!

I linked Psymon's thread on all of the BAIN-related pages and most of the Wrye Bash pages... I do not know how to get users to follow the "related" links. I'll have to think on that...

I have read everything on the first page, but I am confused about the structure of a complex BAIN mod. In particular the structure of Qarl Texture Pack.

If I would take the following as an example:

[dungeons][dungeons\caves][dungeons\caves\exterior][dungeons\caves\interior][dungeons\Chargen][dungeons\fortruins][dungeons\fortruins\castle]

what is the correct way of adding a structure to it, which would allow me to select/deselect the sub (sub, sub, sub) packages. So that I could for example: install dungeons\caves and dungeons\caves\exterior but have dungeons\caves\interior unchecked?

I tried the following, but it did not work. Probably because BAIN does not support nested structures?

[00 dungeons][00 dungeons\00 caves][00 dungeons\00 caves\00 exterior][00 dungeons\00 caves\01 interior][00 dungeons\01 Chargen][00 dungeons\02 fortruins][00 dungeons\02 fortruins\00 castle]

Unless you meant the following, which will probably work (have not tried it yet) - but it would take ages :flamed:

[01] dungeons\caves\ <- install everything inside caves.[01] dungeons\caves\exterior\ <- only install files inside exterior (files from \cave & \cave\interior are not in this folder).[01] dungeons\caves\interior\ <- only install files inside interior (files from \cave & \cave\exterior are not in this folder).[01] dungeons\chargen\ <- install everything inside chargen.[01] dungeons\fortruins\ < - install everything inside fortruins.[01] dungeons\fortruins\castle <- only install files inside castle (files from \fortruins are not in this folder)

Hope it makes sense!

Subpackages only go down one level. You could have the exterior textures in one subpackage and interior in another.

That is actually how I did it http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/957424-custom-bain-projects/page__view__findpost__p__13861975. You don't have to and can decide to split up as much as you like or keep separate as much as you are willing to work at.

The real advantage of going all out like I did was that I can choose to have heavy replacers like (QTP III) for mostly interiors like Caves, forts, Ruins and have light replacers (like Bomrets & CorePC) for external areas where the graphic load might be too much.

The downside being that the size of that package is 8 gigs. A pain to udpate, which I don't really - I just add updates or new additions in other packages that I have installing later.

gasp - that means repackaging!

Actually the part I quoted from lunatic would give even more control if he also loaded similar constructs from other replacers.

The replacer compilations are some of the most powerful illustrations of BAIN.

Take for instance my older http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/957424-custom-bain-projects/page__view__findpost__p__13905887. With it you can use moons, stars, and nebula from different mods at the same time.

I've made similar collections for both Morrowind and Fallout 3, as well as, texture packs that are segmented ... and environments collections (many more of those for Fallout 3).

Going to be a pain to setup everything as I have shown with my 3rd structure, but it should give more flexibility (which I prefer). The only downside I could think about is an insane list of options inside the installer tab.

Alright, sorry for the double post but I was wondering what you think about the following structure.

Spoiler

I installed the discs, then copied everything related to a DLC to a separate map. Then started organizing everything. Each separate DLC included the DLCList.txt (is having this even required?), with only his own *.esp added. The Merged DLC List has all the DLC in DLCList.txt.

Since I can no longer add the TESNexus ID to my achieves, I went on and used a workaround by tagging all documents with a better name, including a version and TESNexus ID.

I installs perfectly, but since I have included SI files the installer turns red after a rescan. Not really an issue, since there are only 4 orphan files left after an uninstall.

How are you generating those lists? - I'm curious.

I don't recognize some of that:
[Official Plugins\02 Terrain Noise Filter][Official Plugins\03 Grove Of Reflection Fix][Official Plugins\03 Grove Of Reflection Fix\Docs\Tweaks\Grove Of Reflection Fix v1.0-10892.txt][Official Plugins\22 Mystic Emporium Fix KTDH][Official Plugins\22 Mystic Emporium Fix KTDH\Docs\Tweaks\DLCFrostcrag Mystic Emporium Patch v1.0-12745.txt][Official Plugins\22 Mystic Emporium Fix Patch][Official Plugins\22 Mystic Emporium Fix Patch\Docs\Tweaks\DLCFrostcrag Mystic Emporium Patch v1.0-12745.txt]

Really it is up to you - if you know you are going to use PyFFI then why save the originals. I PyFFI'd the meshes and repacked the BSA files with them.

I also kept all official content in a separate archive from everything else, but that is all just preference. The Unofficial Patches stuff - in another package - somewhat outdated version linked http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/957424-custom-bain-projects/page__view__findpost__p__13833793 in the old thread.

You can have at least one nexus link by adding the final numbers onto whatever package you make. So that is a reason not to package too much. But for instance a link to the UOP would then allow easy clicking to the USIP or UOMP.

Tomlong-
heh don't worry about it. I suppose if I wanted to make fanfare I could put it in my signature. Really until people have some basics down they would just be intimidated by the thread - then they will see the light - like this young lunatic here.

I have been using Total Commander (Windows Commander) for as long as I can remember. It has a directory tree function, which allows it to generate a full (folder) list of a drive you choose. It stores it as a *.wc file, but it can be edited with notepad. I had to edit the tree-list tho, because it showed all the nested folders. Oh and since it only recognizes folders, I had to manually add the text files, so that it made sense).

The usual (messy) output from the above achieve would look like the following. Would it not be great if it could generate the same folder structure on a different drive, thus allowing even more complex BAIN achieves, haha.. the possibilities!

I don't recognize some of that:

Terrain noise is what my SI installs by default (unless it got added with the latest SI patch, I am not entirely sure) - it causes landscape to have some noise, rather than none at all. Grove of reflection is something that would fix a SI quest, but I put it there "just in case". I have not even visited SI yet. The other fix is for the Mystic Emporium which is a given, because in all my modded Ob installs I ended up with a 24/7 closed ME.

I saved the meshes, because I do not want to have multiple folders of backup files. I got the storage for it, but it just would not make sense to have duplicates, if storing them in the actual achieve would do a similar job.

I was already planning on using separated achieves for anything which do not mix well together, as in flexibility. Unofficial patches will be in one achieve, just like meshes from Robert's Male or HGEC. Quests will have there own achieve as well, with the relevant patches/tweaks to cause less cluttering.

edit: seems I am using incorrect MOBS versions for my DLC. I swear, some mod creators create way too much confusion...

I'm suddenly encountering a rather strange problem where Wrye Bash refuses to recognize sub-packages when I try to install Bain projects. This http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d93/Snargelfargen/untitled.jpg shows the directories being skipped.

Edit: issue resolved

Maybe you would care to explain how you think the issue happened and how you resolved it so that others can benefit from the post.

And since it is mostly of a technical nature about how BAIN functions - probably you would have gotten a better answer (if you needed one) in the Wrye Bash thread as this thread is not tended to by a modder/technician of WB and is actually a thread on packaging and basic uses.

Fair enough.

My mistake was in putting readmes into separate folders. BAIN does not recognize a complex package if any of the folders do not contain any recognized files (plugins or folders that belong in the morrowind data directory, for example). I'm sure this is already documented online, so I was a little embarrassed about my mistake.

Make sure to check mods with the 'has extra directories' option in the context menu you get when you right click each package.
