Have you installed the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1175/? with the SkyRe configuration (the .ini is under the "Optional" section on SkyRe's download page)? There is also an uncapper .ini for pure mages (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/57332/?), but I haven't checked to see if it is as balanced as the author claims. Also remember that Alchemy is under the Mage, so you should be expecting to buff and restore with potions as well as spells and followers are pretty much essential for a pure mage.
