Balancing Brink

I guess it's kind of understandable. The 2/3/4 shot kills with the SVU in B:BC2 aren't all that bad. It takes a lot of skill to use the SVU, but it's so much more rewarding and versatile than the stupid bolt actions. Besides, wounding an enemy will actually mean something since they can't recover all the way without the help of a Medic. As for the leveling, it's supposed to be easy to start, and then you get thrown into a whole different dimension when you reach the next rank up.

I only use semi auto snipers in BBC2 but i can tell u it doesnt take too much skill to use them decently. the type88 can kill ppl in 2 shots easy and the SVU is 3 bullets. also the bolt actions i feel tak more skill to use but then again i sprint around the map when im sniping so the bolt actions arnt that helpful for me.

i personally think the LRs wont be as nerfed as we think they will be. i mean if we can drop a guy in 3/4 shots with the Drognav and 2 with the barret itll be a piece of cake, only ammo will be an issue.

They're a [censored] to use against other snipers. They completely dominate on an open battlefield at mid/long range, but when you get really far away or shoot at a sniper that can move into cover, they're so hard to use. You ever countersnipe and have the guy just keep popping out and firing his M24 and surviving hits to the head? Oh so frustrating. It's fun to keep them pinned down though. I think having someone shoot at them multiple times at that range knocks them for a loop.

yeah that can get annoyin sometimes but when they get that bad i jus keep my scope on them til my teammates start shootin at em then its easy from there. if anythin the artillary strikes will get em moving.

SVU <3

Give me extra ammo and magnum, and I'm set. Tbh I fare pretty well with the semi-auto SRs/VSS/M14, but can't play for crap with the bolt-actions. And I'm fairly sure the SVU, Type 88 & M14 deal the exact same amount of damage... since when did they 2-shot?

Anyways, there seems to be a lack of DMRs in Brink, so I'll be running with a Rokstedi (the semi-auto AR).

I don't like that Short Rifles were changed to Long Rifles, the former had a clever oxymoron kind of a ring to it.

The VSS is reaaaaally easy to beat people with. It does so much damage and has an insane rate of fire for a sniper. It's the perfect Engineer weapon, seriously.

I could never really snipe to save my life anyways, so I just grab an M95/SV-98 with a red dot and magnum ammo and close-range snipe, BRINK style (I guess), then whip out the Grach when I don't have enough time to endure the rechambering animations.

I'm trying to get better with the M14, though. I keep hearing amazing things about it from my friend.

splash damage are awesome. they always impress me with how smart they are at game design and how they focus on the gamers experience.

i've seen a lot of interviews and what they say always makes sense and makes me wonder why other devs haven't come up with this yet.

I actually really believe that brink is the start of a revolution and in the future all FPS game will be doing what brink has started with.

Gosh, I hope not!

Developers should start thinking for themselves instead and stop copying successful other games.

all FPS games copy from the games before them. there are no truly 100% original FPS games. This how games have evolved. People complain when games copy other games badly, but few people complain when they copy other games well and improve on them.

Splash Damage is going to be keeping a constant eye on balance in every aspect of Brink. Plus, with the necvars, they can patch things pretty much on the fly.

I actually liked the quote about MMO's that said you had the game balanced when everyone was complaining equally.

Basically, the perfect compromise leaves everybody mad. :turned:

VSS? The fully-auto sniper rifle? How can it be a Neer's weapon...? If you mean the G3, then yeah. Pretty much G3 = all-kit VSS w/out scope, and M14 = all-kit Type 88 Sniper w/out scope. And both have hipfire crosshairs, obviously.

Problem with the VSS is that whilst scoped in on full-auto, after the 2nd bullet it starts getting wild and after the 4th they're just flying everywhere. You have to have a pretty decent finger for bursting to make much use of it at range. Never tried the RDS for bolt-actions as I wasn't sure how effective it would be, and I'm too busy chasing better plats to care at the moment. I hate the Grach tho... quick as hell but not enough power, give me an M9 any day. ^_^

The M14 is my baby, it's not really GREAT at anything but it's GOOD at EVERYTHING. At 250 kills it's my most-used weapon, and I anticipate it to be my first plat. 4x Scope + Magnum is pure win.

I tend to run it on Recon, as a default and for when the [censored] hits the fan (gotta love the motion sensors), or Medic... but I'll swap to Assault if I find I'm staying alive long enough to run out of ammo.

Pretty sure it's lookalike in Brink is full-auto though... which is a shame, I'm a semi-auto kinda guy. Hope the Rokstedi delivers, the image on the Brink wiki makes it out to be a 4 shot kill, but hopefully that's out-dated info or it handles well enough to make up for it.
