Ballistic Weave is OP and isn't available for some clothing

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 2:39 am

The upgrade availability of ballistic wave is inexplicably skewed vs BoS uniforms. So we can lay like 2000 layers of kevlar beneath a tuxedo or rags but not a combat uniform? Or any of those unique outfits like Silver Shroud suit? Rather weird.

Moreover, it's ridiculously overpowered. A very cheaply upgraded courser uniform gives more protection than a fully upgraded polymer heavy combat armor which is the pinnacle of non-PA armor. What's this weave made of, depleted uranium? You can have more armor on red dress than a non-upgraded heavy combat armor while you enjoy literally weightless armor and SPECIAL bonuses.

Heck, all they needed was to give Steyr Augs and we could walk full auto spraying, immune to bullets like those Syndicate-agent dudes from Harley Davidson & Marlboro Man. One might even do Alec Baldwin face for just that.

I had thought that they learned their lesson from Skyrim but apparently not. Here, they balanced it even worse!

Question: If it is "so OP" why would you want it to be available on even more items? (lol)

Ballistic weave = 220 extra armor after 39 levels (Rank 4 Armorer).

Power Armor = 600-1000 extra armor and practically immune to radiation and fall damage for free with no level req.

TOO OP!

I want it both nerfed and made available to everything logical, hence the thread title.

So a night gown with kevlar layer should rival a vehicle armored exoskeleton powered with nuclear energy in effective protection, amirite?

No, MA'AM!

To me, the only thing that really makes it OP is that you can get it without officially siding with the Railroad. It's like, their one thing they have going for them and you get it fairly early with their faction quests.

Don't say Too OP then, since it isn't, say "breaking mah immsurshun".

Wrong wording.

They probably should have distributed half of the ballistic-weave's DR into the actual Armor Material upgrades (ex: polymer should give far more) to be more lore/sense friendly.

It's a single player game if it's so OP simply don't use it

You can get it and put combat on over some. At least 1 I know, pretty sure another. I just had that under power armor and got beat up a little. I did just charge in against 6 at long range and I was trying out my rocket launcher and getting used to which gauge is what in PA. And jet packing around a mine pit so I was going way off of what I usually do.

You should be able to mod anything at that point to make the generals uniform and shroud competitive. It did get me out of shroud maxed at 87 to b weave maxed at 110 for me at level 4 armor. It got me to use the legendary pieces if accumulated. I didn't even realize and snuck up right next to a mutant hound who are very aware. That chameleon works good. It should stay invisible if you move really slow but doesn't. Idk how to do spoilers but since others have said stuff the dirty army uniform and I think the original vault suit can be upgraded and worn under armor. I wanted the t shirt and jeans but it won't take b weave. There may be others I think I saw a thread about which but that was before I knew about it.

Ballistic fiber is fairly rare.

You should be able, in keeping with Bethesda tradition dating back to forever, to make yourself as OP as you want.

It's OP in comparison to its rival, it's not a matter of character becoming OP. Normal armors receive like 20-25% bonus from mods while weave gives like 10000% benefit. If that isn't OP, I don't know what is.

It's even more broken than enchanting clothing in Morrowind and that's something I never could even imagine.

I'm just surprised to hear mention of Harley Davidson & Marlboro man. I thought no one else saw that movie :P

On topic: mods'll fix it.

Yeah so OP that something gives ya the freedom to wear some things for looks and not lose to much defense.

Personally I like the weave, would not mind seeing on more stuff tho, it and the armour/weapon moding system are great, because you have a lot more freedom to design ya characters looks and what kind of weapons he/she wields and still having a decent shot surviving the end game.

I never understand that "logic". Internal consistency and balance matters regardless of whether the game is single or multi-player. OP mechanisms and items can easily ruin immersion and trivialize any challenge to the game, basically breaking the game.

The advice to "just pretend it ain't so" is no more a solution here than it would be if you said "Just pretend the graphics are better" or "Just pretend the story makes sense" about a game. Sure, I can pretend but if it's broken, it's broken, if it's imbalanced, it's imbalanced. All I really hear from such advice is "Hey, I like the OP [whatever] so just shut up."

I wouldn't call hardly 1/3 to 1/5 or even 1/8 in some cases the armor of PA as "rivalling PA."

There is no rival in the defense department.

Ballistic weave can't even lick X-01 boots, hell, not even T45 boots.

The argument is that these are single-player only experiences. So overpowered gear can only have a negative effect on one person. You, the single-player. It's your game, nobody else can take part in it. So if you find a gun that's too good, or a piece of armour that makes you invincible, and you feel that these items trivialise any challenge the game presents you and have a negative impact on your enjoyment of the game, simply ignore/don't use them.

That's all there is to it. It's easy.

Comparisons with how the game looks or how the story plays out don't hold any weight, because (excluding mods) you can do nothing to change those things.

You can easily just not use Ballistic Weave.

Of course I can. It still isn't a valid response to the issue though. If it's OP, it's OP. Sure, I can just not play part of the game, I don't think anyone needs to have that explained to them. I don't fast travel, I don't wear power armour, I don't use 120 armour Fedoras. If, however, I could put some weave into a set of Military Fatigues and get a reasonable armour rating I would use them. Hence my comment wishing they'd tone it down to reasonable levels so I could include that part of the game in my play.

Yep, like most above, if you don't like it or think its OP, then just done use it. its very simple.

Why should BGS make a nerf to something that only a handful of people think is OP. Its a single player experience and if I want to be a super powered badass then I can be that. Its how I played Skyrim. I did the alchemy and blacksmith exploit to where my armor alone could withstand jumping off the highest mountain and surviving. My bow could literally one shot anything in the game.... why did I play like this? because it helped me be more submerged into the story than worrying about whether or not I'd survive the next dragon attack. Albeit that sometimes I glitched dragons when I would one shot them immediately. Then I learned to atleast let them land first. Also, my armor had like 2 million carry weight... because reasons.

That's how I like to play. especially on consoles where there is no way to enable God Mode. If I want to raise my skills by healing Lydia while she's taking damage from a constant fire trap, then that's what I want to do.
