[Relz]Bananasplit's Better Cities - Thread 31

After installing the latest version of Better Cities, deleting the distantLOD folder and re-running it with both FPS patches activated, my FPS dropped 25% MORE. I deactivated those esps before entering the game - though I tried keeping them active as well, no difference. :(


Now my performance is horrendeus no matter where I look, but the cities make it even worse. Deleting the DistantLOD folder fixes it.

What is it that Better Cities adds LOD-wise that?s so heavy compared to everything else for example RAEVWD brings?


More importantly, please someone help me disable any Better Cities related LOD. I would be perfectly content with what I have before installing Better Cities - I just want the "City life" itself, I don?t care about extra LOD for the cities. :sad:

I extraced the better cities BSA and deleted all of the building/house _far.nif files. Also the statues, stone circles, etc. that are found in the cities. Also things like the staircases and such in the Imperial City. I also deleted all such _far.nif files from the cities from RAEVWD, even though I wasn't using the plugins for them. If you scan the folders for *_far.nif files from windows you will see them.

That solves the problem for me because there are no longer any _far.nif files for TES4LodGen to process that impact the city besides the walls. The lack of the buildings doesn't bother me since I run with streamsite and low fog values, so I'm rarely in a position to notice.

hey...

maybe it would be a good improvment to create a seperate VWD pack for BBC and removing the _far meshes from the bsa's. I know the FPS patches remove the lod buildings...but in my eyes that would be the better solution...maybe including a nice omd script for installing :)
it is quite a lot of fumbling around for many people especially when used together with RAEVWD....a seperate pack would make things easier ...
for my own use I deleted the lod buildings from the Imperial City Worldspaces (Better Imperial City esp) and removed the city architecture,wayshrines, rune stones and sewer entrances from the RAEVWD pack...but kept the IC _far meshes for the IC waterfront...works perfectly for me...

It would be much easier if you were to just exclude all the BC Imperial City ESPs when generating your DistantLOD, then activate BC IC afterwards.

This would work probably work for BC since it's so far down in the load order, but if you do this for most mods then when you activate the mod in the middle it screws up the distant lod for all the rest... you have to run TES4LodGen anytime you change your load order in my experience. In any case, I don't like messing around with deactivating and reactivating plugins every time I build my LOD and/or bash patch I'd rather just nuke the _far.nifs I don't want and never have to think about it again :)

The if you deactivate the esp files doesn't that also deactivate bashed patch, which also contributes to mussing up teslodgen?

It would be highly unlikely that the bashed patch is holding any information LOD would care about.

I have no clue if this has already been answered or not, so my apologies if it has. I am having issues buying the Ship in Anvil Bay. I can buy the Dockside House, but whenever I try to buy the ship the only response I get is "20,000 is too expensive."

I'm on a different computer so I don't have my load list on hand. Here's what I can remember off the top o' my head, out of order.

Well you're not using Better Cities, so you'll need to ask in a thread relating to OOO, MMM or Tamriel Travelers (I know AWLS won't do that).

Yes it's a small mistake, a box wasn't ticked in the ESM. I fixed it a few weeks ago, but we haven't had a release since so for now the mistake remains :)

Do you mean you can no longer walk on the ship deck? This would mean the game has forgotten the ship's collision data, and is quite common with any mods which allow the player to sail a ship. To resolve, stand on the dock beside the ship, save, exit to desktop, relaunch the game and load the save. Collision should be restored, allowing you to walk across the deck again.

If you look really close, it's not an eyeball. The drop is reflecting, and the default reflection you see is of trees. Though it does look like an eyeball if you're not paying attention :)

Hey guys/girls just had something wired happen, I'm using better cities and all was fine but after a while of playing I've gone back to the Imperial City to find that in some places (next to the bank and when you go to spy on Thoronir and Agarmir) the groung near the wall seems to of sunk, so if you walk over it you'll fall into a ditch. I can get out because I can jump out but the NPCs don't have a brain so couldnt think to do something like that....anyone know why something like that might be happening??

Edit: Just realised it's also happened at one of the entrances leading out of the market district aswell, if I want to get up the steps I have to jump on to them. As I said everything was ok before as I have all the required files installed and up to date so I don't know where this came from so it may be a mod I've added somewhere.

Problem solved it was a mod called ''Guard six.esp'' which is supposed to allows you to perform sixual acts on guards in order to reduce your bounty, not sure why but it conflicts with better cities soon as I removed it the problem was fixed. If I had to guess I would think it's the full defence of BC its incompatible with but thats just a guess as I have no clue.

Better cities is just a mod I can't live without, Beth should actually hire you guys to do their cities ;) :thumbsup:

Anyway, is there any plan for more then one entrance to each city? It kinda ruins my immersion that I always have to walk past a ton of guards to a main entrance which is a killer for immersion =/

A way to get outside the prisons without going through the usual entrance would be cool too!

I have a problem.

For almost all of the custom signs added to buildings in better cities, mine have no mesh. It means I have the annoying task of disabling them with the console on every new char.

Also, on the Bravil docks, lots of the added npc's fall into the water when trying to walk onto a pier and turning a bit too soon

Hello, I just wanted to say first of all that this is an absolutely lovely mod. There is so much attention to detail in it that I could not imagine going back to vanilla cities. That being said, I do have a slight problem :embarrass:. I imagine this is a problem on my end, since someone else would have probably reported it already...

In this picture, focus on the far lights. In the first picture, the lights on either side of the door of the house have small pink cones under the lights. In the second picture, the lamp post the crosshairs are
beside also show that glitch. When I approach the light source the cone vanishes. This glitch is only visible at night when the lights are on and can be seen in several cities such as Chorrol and Skingrad (in fact any light source using the mesh BetterCitiesResources\Lights\TOFfiretorchlarge.nif.)

I apollogize that the glitch isn't clearer in the screen shots. It shows up terribly unless you're actually in game, and I can't get any closer to it without it dissapearing.

Before you ask *grin* I have 7 bsa's for Better Cities in my data folder: Better Cities - Bravil Docks.bsa, Better Cities - Complement, Better Cities - Meshes.bsa
Better Cities - Shipyard.bsa, Better Cities - Sounds EV, Better Cities - Textures.bsa and Better Cities - Textures EV.bsa.

I have attempted to redownload Better Cities and do a clean re-install of the mod. I have also dissabled all mods except those related to Better Cities and Oblivion.esm
and the problem persists. This is the only problem I have had with this mod. If you have any thoughts let me know.

You didn't install the mod properly. Please read the Installation instructions more closely and follow them, as you haven't installed all of the resources.

I'll have to check that in-game, the flame directional pointer really shouldn't ever be visible.

It's some glitch unique to your game. The flame node is not visible in-game for Ismelda or myself, it isn't even visible for me in the CS.

Not quite unique. I've seen it too. For some reason I only seem to see it in Chorrol, though.
