Bandwidth usage

Hi

While the kids have been on summer break they have predominately playing MW2, while in the house.
I've seen the bandwidth usage go from mid to late 30G bytes to almost 70G bytes!
Other use of the network has been the same as usual.

I believe that MW2 uses peer to peer for game hosting, is this the case?

So what's the likely impact of Brink?

No one could tell you. An accurate guess isnt even possible, since theres so many factors going into it. Everything depends on how they setup the packets, what information they contain, how frequently theyre being sent out and received, and alot of other things...

BTW never knew MW2 was so resource heavy...

Yeah not sure its the XBOX version or the PS3 version, they did play it a lot.
A soon as I stoped them, for a few days, all was back to normal.

The XBOX is quite new to the family though so maybe he was streaming something else!

We are on a gig a day almost, and that is now they are at school :(
I'm in the process of setting up dd-wrt to have access restrictions, make room for homework, but am having issues with the access point, oh hum.

interesting... 1 gig for 8~10 hours of active networking isnt inconceivable... Still most FPS are fairly streamlined, i'd expect that out of an mmo... So what, do you pay per gig for your internet use? If so, yeah i'd put a curve on that, otherwise i wouldnt worry about it from a usage stantpoint, of course, however, your kids and school are another matter i wont involve in.

Really, it wouldnt be unreasonable to expect similar, maybe less traffic from BRINK. Though as i said before, a truly accurate statement is for the devs.

... 1 GIG!? If that's from gaming then you must have a hell of a lot of xbox's :\

BF:BC2 is the game which has used most bandwidth for me on PS3 and also Xbox for some of my mates, and from 10hrs of gaming it uses around 300-400mb.
So most likely, they are downloading other stuff. Could be music or movies. Also depends how many people are on your network.
So tbh I reckon for 10hrs gaming on Brink, it will use roughly 600mb max. That includes constant mic usage. so Don't worry :)
