Banging head against the bot wall

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:19 am

Just played the 4th Resistance mission (solo, bots on easy). The first two sections went great. I hacked the door, blew the pillar, escorted the bot. All fine.

Once again, though, the hacking objectives are the impossible ones. We finally pushed through to the hacking objective. And I had two different experiences in the same game.

1st, I was having trouble as an operative and realized that my team wasn't supporting me. Fine. I decided to switch to engineer, secure the room, and pave the way with turrets and mines for our operatives to get in and get the job done. I stood around for three or four minutes with operatives dancing outside of the room fighting rather than rushing in to hack. I decided to switch back to operative.

2nd, as an operative, we pushed in, secured the room and I was hacking. There were two other damn operatives in the room NOT HELPING. I got the hack to 94% before I was killed. Had the other two operatives actually been assisting, we would have won.

SD, no one cares about being the hero. You designed this to be a team game, please make the single player experience function as such. There have been any number of other successful games that allow the player to succeed as part of a team without being the action hero (see Ghost Recon series, Rainbow Six series, etc.).

I've said it before, I'll say it again. I want to love this game, but you guys are making it hard.

I feel for you. I've been there. Leveled form 12-18 playing Security Day 6 (Early Launch). Still incomplete solo.

Otherwise I'm really enjoying it.

Hard, does just not do it justice. I've learned some valuable skills grinding this one level - but bot herding is just not one of them.

Early launch is extremely difficult. My buddy and I finally beat it when he threw his arms up in the air and went soldier proclaiming, "that's it. I'm shooting these f'ers in the face." Actually bought me the time to hack the dang missle. Hacking is the most unfair objective for the attackers.

Why are you playing on easy? Easy makes both sides bots moronic. Play on normal at least.

I just figured that easy would give my bots a boost and inhibit their's just a bit. That's usually how difficulty levels work. Is that not the case with Brink?

i've beat every mission on hard... the hacking objectives are definitely challenging, but not impossible.

on that mission try switching to soldier while the bots hack the gate controls. set yourself up just outside the control room taking cover behind the rocks. use a weapon with a drum mag and just keep killing the enemy as soon as the come out of their spawn area... then use grenades/molotov when they get close to the control room doorway. it may take a while for the operatives to get over there... but eventually they will hack the controls.

at first i tried switching between operative and engineer but would always run out of ammo... switching to soldier fixed that ;)

I camped the hack room and no allied bots came for 5 minutes. Finally had to give up and switch back to operative. Insane.

Finished all the SP missions (both sides) on normal quite easily. So on easy it should be very doable. The only thing I have a problem with is the 3 star mission of the first challenge. The freaking bots just don't cover when you're repairing as an engi.

Maybe the easy difficulty is borked? I'll try on normal.
