Barbada Island Mod (BETA)

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:50 pm

Looks like a pretty sweet catch! ;)

Thanks! ;D

At least that can easily be solved with a single ctrl + j in Blender. :)

Hmm I don't use blender, does it attach the models? But how could you activate containers and so on?

If anyone wants to check out the island and give some feedback, then I would gladly send the latest version of the mod to you :)

Just Ideas and thoughts :) I'm not putting any press on you if you do it, I would just like to hear what you think of it, from in-game ;)

Okay, that's easy! I'll take a look at it. Best do it now before exam time later this week. Just send me a message linking the file, or just send me the file itself.

QQuix got a modders resource - Conceptual - Rock, rock, rock your boat that adds a rocking motion to the rowboat. It has to be a single-mesh object.

The scripts detect and rock multi-mesh ships as well.

But the scripts need to know the dimensions of the ship in order to figure out which meshes should rock with the ship (like a crate on the deck or the mast) and which should not (like a nearby dock). You may need to adjust the scripts to the size of your ships.

Feel free to use any part of it (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29649)

Wow this looks super nice, the island setup and lush forests give it a real Crysis feel. Ever thought about using NifSkope to slightly retexture some of the buildings you're using to make them more homogenous? I never released any, but in a couple of city addon/town mods I worked on, I retextured unmatching architecture to match the area I was building in so I could use, say, lower class bravil buildings and through them into Anvil but with anvil stucco/roofing on them to make it look nice. Just an idea. Again. looks super nice, obviously a lot of work, keep it up! :)

PS: I'm in love with your fort/camps, they're really sweet looking.

Hey guys! :D I'm back from Roskilde Festival, it was epic and filled with nice experiences and fantastic music :D

And with my return, my work also returns :D so I will try to work more on quests and Volcano Crater, hopefully I will start today :)

Thanks for explaining! I will perhaps try to implement it when I get further in the process but until then, I will work on stuff which has higher priority for the mod :D

Thanks for the positive comment!! I'm not very good at niftools, but that is a really great idea! :) By doing it I could also create a more regional feeling, so that a city on Volcano Crater, didn't look identical to one on Barbada :D but I was thinking would you try to make an example for me? It would help me a lot! :D

Hey guys :)

Just checking in to tell you about the progress, I've been working a lot on the first chapter and I'm actually quite close to finish that, but I do not promise anything :P

I have also started to work on a new island, French/British landscape inspired. The reason I start so many new islands is because I need them for chapter two ;)

Glad to see this mod is still alive and...expanding. Promise to give it a try soon as I really like the screenshots.

Regards,

Hem

Thank you so much, I'm very glad you want to try it out :D

Awia,

I'm slowly putting together my "world" (I don't play very often, so it's slow going). This mod will definitely be part of my world. Your work is very much appreciated. In fact, I get the feeling that there are a LOT of silent people just keeping one eye on this and waiting for a relz version 1.0. I know that doesn't help you in your testing phase, but I guess that means that version 1 will be a sorta big beta test version : )

Thanks,

Tarl

Hey Tarl
It does help :) It means so much to me, that people are actually playing or keeping an eye on my stuff! To me it feels incredible, that I can do something, which I love to do and do as a hobby, that creates a product which other people actually enjoy :D Thats amazing and that is the fantastic thing about modding!

On top of that, I'm so glad that my world will become a part of your world :D and I can't wait to release the proper version, I wish things could progress a bit faster. but hopefully we will see the Relz version soon :)

There you go:

New pics of the French/British-like island :D

Please comment on what you think! :)

I was thinking about making a showoff video of the island because I don't think you get a proper picture of the island when only shown through such few ;)

Btw as I was wandering through the pine forest of the island, I actually got lost! Because of the lack of a map, I was lost. Therefore i had to run for a long time in one direction to find a place where I could recognize it again :D I'm just thinking how is that possible when I made the Island myself xP

News:

I've done a lot of work :) First of all I have generated all the regions for the new island, so its ready to be modified when the time comes.

Secondly I've have been working on a new feature in the mod. I will add the opportunity to buy Trading companies and thereby earn money by investing in goods and selling them afterwards, although it is a risky thing to do.
Your ships can be attacked by pirates and you can therefore lose a lot of gold that way, but you can pay crew members to protect your ship, so it can survive the attacks.
The weather will also be a problem, but by purchasing ship upgrades your ship will have higher chance to survive a storm.
As you sell more and more goods your trading company will grow and can get bigger and bigger deals, but that also makes your travel routes more risky for pirate attacks.
This is just some of the things I have in mind, but if you have an idea please post

This will add more feeling that the islands work together and that you are in a living trading world.

And last thing, I've have also worked on the main quest and I'm making good progress.

Hey Awia,

I've been following this WIP for a while and you've certainly got me interested, the new feature of buying trading companies sounds interesting as well. Will only the ships be attacked or will you also add attacks on the company itself? (Maybe not only from pirates but also from Rival companies??)..

I wish you got luck with this mod, take your time and make something very nice out of this. :)

PS, looking forward to the vid

Hey thanks for the constructive feedback :D I don't think you will go on the ships yourself that would just make it impossible to lose a ship and feel the economic consequence. The thing about Rival companies actually sounds great, maybe you could investigate the attacks and maybe find the attackers and get your goods back, either by killing them(pirates) or go to a trail(rival companies). The last option may not be possible but it sounds fun ;)

Thanks and I hope you will continue to follow this and tell me what you think in the future when Relz 1 goes live :)

As for the Video, I'm uploading it to youtube as I type and will provide links to it here, on Tesnexus and PES :)

Looks reeeeeal good, and intriguing!
Also it feels very Oblivonish, it all fits very nicely and nothing stands out as odd.
Landscaping and the islands look absolutely fantastic :icecream:

Sorry I could not give any constructive criticism at this time; have to let it sink in for a while first ;)

Wonderful!
