Barbada Island Mod (BETA)

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:24 am

Looks reeeeeal good, and intriguing!
Also it feels very Oblivonish, it all fits very nicely and nothing stands out as odd.
Landscaping and the islands look absolutely fantastic :icecream:

Sorry I could not give any constructive criticism at this time; have to let it sink in for a while first ;)

Wonderful!

Thanks! :D
I'm glad you noticed the Oblivinish feeling, because its something that I think a lot about, I want it to fit in the game, but at the same time I want to work with new concepts and styles like the chalk cliffs and close city (black bottle bay)

I'm very glad that you have given any critic :)

Right now I'm working on the last bit of story writing for the first chapter and working on wrapping it all up, perhaps add some extra sidequests and features

This looks great! Never heard of this before -- but went and watched the 7 min. Youtube video and was impressed. Nice feel.

Hope this gets fleshed out with some quests and interaction and released! Would be an insta-download as far as I'm concerned.

Hey thanks man, I'm really glad you liked it!
The mod will be fleshed out with quests and interaction you can be sure of that :) I hope I will be able to release something soon so you can try it out

I'm working on the main quest atm but I'm also starting to check all the small things that needs to be done before the release of Chapter One, I don't want to put anything out before it has some playability and feels just a little finished ;)

hey guys :)

I've been on a computer where I couldn't mod this weekend thats why I haven't wrote about any progress.
I will return to my good computer today and will hopefully be productive.
Meanwhile, remember to check out the video I made for the mod if you haven't, link in description.

I'm in a modeling mood at the moment, so here is some updates concerning that area:

I just fixed my problems with not being able to make/add Collisions for my models, so now that I'm able to do it, I will no longer have problems with that And I don't have to concern about that.
I also took the Vertex Painting Tutorial on The CS Wiki (very useful) and it has improved the visual of my models a lot.

So with this new knowledge I almost finished a new model, A bell tower, used for protection in cities. As soon as I have the time I will learn how to import animations to cs so that The Bell tower will have a nice little feature where you can ring the bell ;)
Pictures of the bell tower will be up soon :)

Until then, if any of you guys have any critics, comments or just questions, please post :D

Looks nice and the textures are ordinary oblivion ones? The textures meld very well with the rest of the world so I guess they are the normal oblivion ones.

So it's an "alarm" bell. I would guess normally if someone would ring this the NPC's would get very agitated; and even more so if there were no threat :toughninja:

Was it conceived because of pirate activity and the natives response to this threat?

It's fun to watch how this progress and grow; you got some real nice modding done there.

Cheers!

Textures are all oblivion onces, except the bell ;)

Yea it is an Alarm bell. As for the agitated thing if there are no threats, I think about making a small side quest including an old man who is very annoyed, because someone in the city is using the bell a little too often ;p

The bell was mainly built because of pirate activity on the Island, The natives mostly keep to themselves on the inner side of the islands because of a lot of troubles going on there (but maybe some rebellion natives will ambush you in the wild if you are unlucky :whisper: )

The bell will also be found in other cities and locations, but this is the only place for now (mainly as a showoff)

Thanks, I'm so glad that you watch the progress, and you share you're thoughts with me, it makes it a lot more fun to mod :D and thanks for the compliment :D

Hey guys

I'm sorry for being offline for such a long time, but school has kept me busy with homework.
But none the less I have got some time off this weekend to make a model :) I won't say what it is yet but its big :D
I have also worked a bit on the last part of the Main quest for Chapter 1

Big? Like in Huge? Hmm, maybe a galleon... no no, that is too small, and maybe too many details. Maybe a geyser! That's kind of cool, eh hot.
Only big things I come to think of right now is skyscraqers and jumbo-jets, none of witch fits into this mod :P

Always nice to see your progress on this Awia.

Cheers!

Hey Locksley

No not a skyscraqer, but its a building, and its big and its old ;) fits with middle american indians ;) hehe I guess you've got it, I'm making a kind of Mayan temple, or atleast the style from it. Its going to be used on Volcano Crater.
I'm texturing it now, but I will perhaps add more elements to it.

Besides from that, I've just installed The Total Conversion Nehrim, which I'm sure you guys have heard of, I must say its really great and I get a lot of ideas from it that I hope I will implement in Barbada Island :D

Hey guys :)

Sorry for my absence in the last weeks(months!?!). I wanted to do some work but I just had no time at all.
But well, I have been doing some progress, even though its not a lot. I have worked a bit on landscaping French/british Island, making some unique areas, currently working on a beach which will look nothing like beaches in Oblivion :D hopefully some screens will be posted soon.
Secondly, I have worked a bit more on the Mayan temple model, and I am at the point that always slows me down when we talk about modeling, and thats texturing  I am so bad at it, so if anyone wants to help me out with any of my models that I'm currently working on, please tell me! it would be so nice to make a little team ;)

So thats all for now, hope you have had a great fall :) And I hope I will write again soon

Okay guys :)

I'm working on a concept for the main town of The French/Birtish Island. Its going to be more upper class than most of the cities I've made but I hope its still going to be good.

I've written some background story for the city (and for the entire Island btw) so each city, village, town will have its own story and based on the story the city will have its style, for example, the city I'm drawing concepts for right know, will be the trade center of the island but most importantly it is also a center of knowledge. Not necessarily magic-knowledge but also knowledge in general. Therefore a lot of scholars live in this town. You will find architects, historians, teachers, mages, researchers and tacticians here.
This sounds really perfect and with no lacks, but of course it is not. The circumstances on the island (which I will not tell you) and a lot of other problems will reflect in the town, and that gives you something to work with ;)

Hope you like it so far, please write if you have any questions

Awia,

Sounds good to me. I like how you are putting thought into each town's uniqueness. Makes it funner visiting them and gives them a purpose.

Glad to see your still hanging in there and working on it. Take your time. Keep it fun. Then we'll have fun : )

Thanks,

Tarl

The French/Btitish thing is an Island I have created and because I'm too lazy, i haven't found a name for it yet xD so its just its style :D
Try to check my http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_DazKhClpw, and go to 4:30 and you will see the island and it's landscape :)

Thank you for your support Tarl :)

I love to work on this project so its not that i want to stop working on this project.

I'm also glad you liked my idea about the cities, and I have started on several models of buildings to the city including the town hall, which only needs texture :) so the progress is fast once again :D

Stay tuned :D

I have a project in school to make a 2d platform game, so I have no time for Barbada Island until I'm done with it :D

I will post a link to the game when I'm done with it, if any of you guys would be interested :)

I would be "extremely" interested. So, please let us know when you get it done(or, when you've done any work on it; if you have the time).

That said, I wish you luck and good results on the school project. That may be a win win thing. Ignore this mod and get some good school stuff done and then when (if?) you ever find time to come back and work on this mod, you may be refreshed and feel like working on a Oblivion again.

Thanks,

Tarl

Put some trash/litter/junk here and there in your town to give it that LIVED-IN look.

Thank you very much for sticking through Tarl :D the school project is almost over but we have learned that 2 people one month + normal school work just isn't enough to make a good game, so it is just a prototype but I will still post it :D eventually I will make updates to it If I have the time.
The game is a Christmas game following the Christmas spirit in its quest to save the Christmas (real original xD)
I will post a link to the game tomorrow evening when we will hand the game in :D

But yes It has given me even more motivation to make games and mods so I hope I will have a lot of time this holiday to make some more work on Barbada Island, and with Skyrim coming Up I fell like making a Nordic island (I am from Denmark so there should be some inspiration to take from :D )

Thanks for your good advice :) Most of my towns are not done, so I still have a lot to do but unfortunatly Black Bottle Bay already has to many objects so adding more would just decrease the framrate too much :)
