Conan!

There are no classes. Use the skills you think would benefit your playstyle most.

Bro, you can be whatever you wanna be. Just dream big and work hard!

Uhhh.. I mean yes, you can be that. Just work on those skills that pertain to those desires.

Yes. Focus on skills like these:

Two-handed weapons
Heavy armor
Smithing
Sneak
Pickpocket
Archery

You don't have to actually choose anything to be the character you want to be. Just focus on using those skills or similar and you should quickly develop a nice barbarian/thief character.

Fun Fact: This isn't D&D, you don't have to choose your class, you just be whatever you want using the 18 skills and perks tied to those skills.

I was thinking on these skills

two handed weapons
one handed weapons
light armor
smithing
lockpicking
alchemy

This will allow all barbaric fighting styles with some thief skills mixed in. Also we have smithing to tie this in to the fighter. I've always role played barbarians to be all offensive and no defensive.

Yeah, I've been thinking of how to make a Conan style character, and with the new system I think that it will be a much easier and natural process.

So I think no magic, a little speech craft, All the fighter skills are good, and most of the thief skills.

That's how I'm going to go about it.

And now it really matters what perks you pick. Just getting skills higher is only have the battle.

Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet."
— Robert E. Howard, The Phoenix on the Sword, 1932

Yay!

I would like to note, however, that despite the lack of tangible "classes," there will be specialized "builds." Not saying that a build won't be mix and matched, but if every skill has about 10~15 perks ...

and we slow down around lvl 50 ... Yeah

Skooma?

that was so funny in past games. Skooma fortifies my Speed!

Yummy. Work up a battle lust, tear off all my clothes, and rush into battle humming that Tune of the Valkyries

Mercy? You want mercy?

Just remember that you are likely to not want every single perk in a skill. For example, if you want to wield two-handed war hammers, what would be the point in getting the sword and axe perks in the two-handed tree?

Sure, in the sense that specialization is rewarded with more experience per skill increase and that NPCs have classes, but the traditional elder scrolls class system is gone.

I love hearing build ideas! My turn to chime in now xD

I think the following would be the base line:

One Handed Weapon - focus on axes I think (like 6-11 perks I guess)
Light Armour - so you can move in quickly with them axes (13, like heavy armour I would say)
Archery - for the ranger/skirmish side (12 or so, going by what is know)

A total of 36/50 perks. Gives you basic protection, dual wielding axes for barbarian glory, and skirmishing potential that is a little more ranger-esk than thief like.

Sneak, Smithing and Alchemy would be the back up skills, where the rest of the perks go. Maybe enough in sneak to remain hidden (5 for the ranked ability), and then the rest in alchemy so you have a healing option?

Only thing in your way from making the perfect Conan character:

No lock bash, so if you want to open chests you need either a spell or lockpicks, neither of which seem to Conan-y. I can see him using a dagger to pry something open, but not fiddling around with burglars tools.

Speechcraft is entirely dependent on your Speechcraft skill, which in my mind relates to eloquence. Conan was a charismatic leader, but his appeal came through his physical appearance and reputation. Physical appearance (or Attributes like Strength) have never impacted NPC interactions, outside of meaningless comments, and Reputation only slightly. I wish there was more emphasis on those two things.

Its no problem OP. Wanna be a barbarian/thief/fighter? Choose your weapon(axe, sword or whatever), sneak often, steal, and pickpocket people, wear light armor. All in all just play how you think that "class" would behave.

fyi, there's no evidence what so ever that would support what your saying, the germanic berserkers never used any drugs to enhance anything, the "flugsvamp" that they supposedly ate before a battle is nothing but a myth so there woulnd't need to be a "powerful drug" in skyrim for him to be able to play as a berserker, the thing that made the berserkers so lethal and fearless wasn't some mushroom but rather heavy belief in the runes they had painted on their bodys.
