Bartering in Fallout 1

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:21 pm

i just downloaded Fallout 1, and so far I'm having a blast in it...however Im really pissed off... It might sound kinda pathetic, but I don't understand bartering at all. Everytime I try to sell something, the merchant says that the offer isn't good enough. Plus, when I do succesfully sell something, I don't get any caps, and I can't buy anything. Can someone help me out, cuz i'm really getting ticked here.

You need to put the same amount of caps as the value for the weapon is.

It does'nt automatch the required amont of caps like FO3/NV

I'm in the same situation.

Plus isn't tricky to get back into the turn-based mind set?

Like Boradam said, you put what you want from his inventory on "the table", then you put what you want to barter from your inventory on "the table", then you see below them what they both are worth and they will have to match, so you add and subtract items till you get to a good value and your barter. That's the idea of bartering. It's not that you chose the items you want, and then pay the exact amount in money like we do nowadays... although you can do that aswell, but you can't come into a clothing store nowadays and try to trade your father's old watch, a silver necklace, and a box of all Police Academy films for apparel :P Although that would be cool

Yeah, getting the quantity of money right was just plain ridiculous, the thing goes to 100 real slow and then goes by thousands!

You can also use the numeric keys to input the preferred amount of money. It's a lot easier that way. ;)

I had the game for two years and I never knew this, holy [censored].

I like FO 1's system better, that way I can just go 999 instead of holding down the arrow keys and jumping from my target which would be 1129 instead of 6007
