Base Game vs Special Edition?

Post » Wed Nov 09, 2016 12:47 pm

Hello everyone, I just signed in to the forum because I need some light on how to proceed now that the Special Edition is out. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have a few 100's of hours in the base game (also completed Dawnguard and some of the Dragonborn DLC), so I feel like it's time to start a new journey with as many immersion mods as I possibly can (I'll put my PC specs down below). That being said, I beg the question:

Should I stick to the base game, or should I go with the Special Edition?

From what I understand the main reason to play the SE on PC is the 64-bit engine, which is supposed to have a much better performance. How much better, though? 'Cause it seems like it's gonna take a very long time for the Special Edition to catch up with the amount of content available to the base game, and I wonder if the performance will be THAT much better to make up for the wait.

I also feel like there are many great mods that will never be ported to the SE, so that's another reason I would stick with the original Skyrim. I'm really lost right now so any input from you more experienced players would be more than welcome :)

Here are my current PC specs, just in case:

Processor Intel® Core™ i5-3330 CPU @ 3.00GHz

Video Card AMD Radeon ™ R9 200 Series

RAM 8.0 GB

Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition

You can, and should, do both. They're separate games, and playing one doesn't stop you playing the other, at least until all the mods you want are on the new engine.

Well the things is, I don't want to burn myself out of the game. I doubt I (or anyone, really) would be willing to play through it two times in a row.

I only have a few months to play Skyrim before I travel abroad, so for the moment I'm stuck between either one or the other... and I would like to have the best modding experience since I already enjoyed the base game to a considerable extent.

Sorry for any English mistakes and thank you for your reply :)
