Bashing Down Doors

Post » Sun Nov 28, 2010 3:33 pm

iirc, in Arena and Daggerfall, there were two ways to open locked doors. If you were sneaky, you could pick the lock silently, and nearby enemies wouldn't know. OR, if you were strong, you could bash it down with your weapon, but it'd make a lot of noise, and alert nearby enemies. This wasn't in Oblivion, and I dunno about Morrowind. This should be in Skyrim, imo.

I'd really like to see that too, but I don't really expect it to be in Skyrim.

I've accepted the fact the the barrels, chests, and doors are "Magically Sealed" :D

It wasn`t in Morrowind but I`d like to see it in Skyrim. It didn`t work too bad in Daggerfall and it was a good alternative to lockpicking or casting that open spell which would drain most of your mana away in a single shot (and wasn`t reliable as it didn`t always succeed).

would the door be physically destroyed? or would it just become unlocked? Seeing as oblivion had to load everytime you went through a dorr, i dont see this being implemented

It wasn't destroyed, it gets unlocked.

I wouldn't really call that "Bashing down".

well in that case, it would be nice. There would have to be consequences though. Perhaps if you didnt bash the lock from the right angle, the lock would be broken and could then only be opened by a key? That way, it prevents people from just mindlessly hacking away at everything and being able to open anything they want.

Well, I can say there was a mod for this in Oblivion, and it what they did worked quite well, though I don't know how much it alerted enemies, I was usually off by myself when I did it anyways. If not in official release I'd like to at least see this in a mod, because it allowed combat based characters capable of opening doors. Magic users could already with the Open lock spell and Stealth use Security skill, so why couldn't combat based characters find a way in?

It did swing open with some force though.

Consider it more like tearing locking mechanism out (should also change door skin)

Something like the fable mechanic would be nice. But the loading time would be insane not to mention the town would have to be realistically huge in order to fit normal sized houses that we can look through to find stuff to steal. This is a feature I doubt they will implement.

You'd only have to smash the locks or the hinges. Yer. I find security a problem when designing a full warrior class. I'm guessing to make it real doors should have a smash rating

I would say that you'd have to kick it open. And if it's a door that leads to a different area, right before the kick actually hits, it can freezeframe and load. So as soon as you kick, it flies open and you walk in.
