Basic question about GOTY Steam and MODS

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:30 pm

Greetings! I worked my way out with mods since a long time and always used the regular PC version of the game, now that Morrowind GOTY and Oblivion GOTY are on SALE at STEAM, a friend of mine is willing to get them but he is asking me if the wonderful mods he has seen in my game will be compatible with the Steam version? Can anyone just confirm this please?
Thanks!

Fully compatible, should be no problems. Little extra reading for OBSE, but you should be reading their instructions anyway.

Preferable if Steam isn't installed in the Program Files directory, though, or at least the games aren't (if on Vista or 7). That's the same as the disc version as well.

Than you Sir! Those are good news for my friend... I appreciate your prompt reply.
Cheers!

One thing I forgot to mention that can cause problems. Oblivion loads files according to the date, and the date of the Steam BSAs is newer than many mods.

OBMM has a "reset BSA timestamps" option that will solve any potential problems from this.

Valve pretty much went above and beyond when it comes to sale of Oblivion. They contributed either code or advice (IIRC) to the OBSE project to make it work with the Steam version of the game.

lol, the lack of a functioning OBSE on steam was probably stopping people from buying the steam version, great move on their part.

On a related note, this probably wont be great news to many here, but bethesda games have a pretty good discount on steam right now in honor of fallout new vegas. Goty Oblivion is only $8.50, Morrowind is only $5, and fallout $25
