So basically Skyrim is Going to be The best RPG game Ever ma

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2011 6:48 pm

Just because it doesn't match you;re initial "experience" which was at a different time when you were almost ten years younger, doesn't mean it isn't fundamentally a better game,

I don't know how to explain it, I doubt I will ever forget walking around Balmora with my brother sitting next to me, I will say yes it is a lot of Nostalgia, whether it will be better than Morrowind if I were of to picked it up for the first time today and compare it to Skyrim, we shall see on 11.11.11

Great game? Very likely.
Best RPG of the year? Possibly.
Best Bethesds RPG? Doubtful.
Best RPG ever made? Very unlikely.

Well, idk how old you were when you played Morrowind, but in order to get how good Skyrim is in comparison, you have to forget all about Morrowind while playing it and judge as you would've judged it when you were younger.

I feel the exact same way about Shadow of the Colossus. Nothing will ever take what that game made me feel away from me. It's a video game, yea, but that game, maybe it's something to do with free roam games. It's just really hard to describe where that game took me emotionally. The whole thing, not just talking about the ending. I will defend that game with my life. That will always be my game of my lifetime. It was the literal definition of amazing to me.

Not because im Hyped for the game, i just came to realize that the game offers more then 300Hours of gameplay, you dont see it in any other game, and there seems to be alot of stuff to do campered to oblivion fallout 3 which had to much "unused Space" empty landscape.

I am going to stop you there, while I give Skyrim a good 75% chance of taking out game of the year on most gaming news sites I just want to make it clear that quantity does not = quality, the fact that Skyrim boasts over 300 hours of gameplay does not count for squat with me. That being said I dont really care what game actually gets GOTY so long as it isnt that pretentious pile of garbage called LA Noire.

That is a dismissal, a downplay, of the deeply fundamental game experience and eye-opener that Morrowind was to many of us.

"Oh. So it can be done this way too. Neat. No invisible barriers, hardly anytime the game tells me I cant. Awesome..
..Two years later.. Hey a cave Ive never seen before! Wonder what unique enmies or items I will find!"

Meanwhile not everything can be dismissed as youthful optimism. I was well in my twenties when I first played Morrowind, and this was after I played Daggerfall as a kid, I dont think I changed very much in the five years it took for Oblivion to come out.

Was 6, watched my dad play it for a while then tried it, didn't really do anything besides walk around towns and travel with the silt striders, but those were some of my best gaming memories I've ever had. I will try my hardest to not compare it to Morrowind.

...this is the first time bethesda have Hand crafted dungeons, ....

I voted 100%, but this statement is just absolute nonesense. Both Oblivion and Morrowind had handcrafted dungeons. Not to mention Fallout 3.

Nothing could match the experience I had in Morrowind, I'm not just saying that, I'm sure no game could ever make me feel the same way Morrowind did.

Oh please.. that's just because you started with Morrowind. I'm sorry but that is nostalgia talking.. if you had started with DF it would be the same thing I bet.. I started with MW and I must say, although it was amazing, there are things that Oblivion and DF did better. That's not the point of the series though in my humble opinion.. it's a continuous (lore trampling aside lol) fictional universe unlike any other, AND we are just lucky enough to play in it :).

It's the feeling that we're in these worlds, or lost in the game that make memories for me. All of the games do that (Morrowind did a very good job of it since we were "foreign"). I guess my point is you haven't played Skyrim, and it WON'T compare to Morrowind unless you give it a chance to.. I'm betting it will..

I highly doubt it will be the best RPG ever made, nor will it be the GOTY. I think that will go to Uncharted 3 or Battlefield 3. Of course, it will certainly be my GOTY.

Was Morrowind the first ever game you played?

For me it was sonic on sega Saturn, it's literally the moment I became a gamer. But I too used to watch my father play games like thief and wing commander.

I give it a 5% chance of GOTY. I'm taking a wild guess that several reviews will complain about not being able to block with certain hand combinations, and other little things. Arkham City is my current choice for GOTY.

I can't automatically declare Skyrim GOTY not without playing it 1st but I can say that Skyrim will probably be the greatest RPG ever made destroying Oblivion and yes even Morrowind. Basically Skyrim is going to be Oblivion without the flaws, with a Fallout 3 type world design, and lastly a touch of Morrowind and Daggerfell.

You honestly believe Skyrim won't be GotY? You know there's dozens upon dozens of outlets that give out the award.

Out of the maybe 5 major gaming magazines/websites (GI, IGN, GT, Gamespot, G4), I doubt it will win GOTY.

What? Oblivion won the majority of those and I don't see Skyrim being any different. Game Informer has all but given it to Skyrim already.

It only won GOTY on 2 or 3 websites...

Pfft, best RPG my ass, Planescape Torment and Fallout are way better RPG's.
Skyrim is gonna be a fancy adventure game with RPG mechanics and that's about it.

/Imo for now.

As for GOTY? Erm, I dunno, what games come out in 2012?

Game Of The Year doesn't mean much considering it comes from hundreds of sites. And apparently IGN thinks dark souls is going to be better.

you obviously dont know the RPG community at all...we are the people who can put 15 pages of discussion and insanely detailed argument into the topic of wolverine vs darth vader. we are the people who for years to come will continue to argue whether ultima 8 is better than 7 or 6 or 5. we are the people who argue which general tinge of colour is better for the fallout series; green or brown?

... and you think you can call not only GOTY but best RPG ever based on marketing-approved previews of a game thats not even finished?!

to quote our favorite 6th house leader, "what a grand and intoxicating innocence!"

Personally I think Skyrim certainly has the potential to be a far better game than Morrowind was, the only thing that really put Morrowind above Oblivion was its exploration and loot system, we already know that Skyrim will have far more interesting dungeons than Oblivion and probably even Morrowind and if Bethesda get rid of the random and leveled loot and instead place worthwhile items around the world and in peoples houses that reward exploration then I am sure Skyrim could be the best Elder Scrolls game to date.
