Bathory's Nordland as Skyrim hymn!

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 7:32 pm

They have only recently hit mainstream success in the last few years, in the whole 20 years they've been around. No different than the way you are hyping the bands in this thread. If they ever manage to achieve the same success, people like you will be saying they are "overhyped" as well. You are not original, and neither are any of these bands you praise.

In a thread about metal talking about mainstream is hardly going to get you anywhere. I don't understand why you came into here and bring up an irrelevant band just to say they're better and get mad when people respond negatively.

Anyways I'd like to listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvU-iuN9OOQ while playing Skyrim. I'm probably going to make a big playlist of viking metal bands to put into my game as the battle music (not to say I'm not going to thoroughly enjoy Soules soundtrack first).

If they got Lisa Gerrard to make the soundtrack to the Elder Scrolls, then all this 'my taste in metal is better than yours' discussion would be shown for what it is, like two jockeys arguing over which of them would do better in a formula one race

Well, not exactly since it's not lore friendly. :P
Anyway, this is Nordland (link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dsp0Q4mWAo), a song from Viking Metal band from Sweden called Bathory (link http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=184 for more info about band).
I was listening Nordland I & II today and felt like sharing this with you people here since it gives (at least to me) Skyrimish feeling. :)
Anyway, enjoy the song and comment if you want.
Also, they could always make Quorthon as EE NPC in TES. :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-XX-9e_LSE the emperor cover song of a fine day to die is pretty epic too :D

The only metal I want in this game is the kind I wear and the kind they make buildings out of.

All of us know there won't be metal music in Skyrim...

Well, I want metal music in Skyrim because electric guitars are perfectly lore friendly material. >.>

The bands that I/we have been praising are, I'm sorry about this, more original than Opeth.

/your opinion

Haha. Whatever, dude. That didn't stop people from loving Metallica all the way through the Black album. And they're not irrelevant.

Feel free to thank me whenever, but as great as Bathory is it doesn't quite capture Skyrim, now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn1ct1xomoY is more fitting.

I'm not saying is should make people stop liking them, just that it's not going to impress anybody. I listen to the music I do because I like it, not because other people do.

And by irrelevant I meant that Opeth isn't exactly "viking" or "nordic" style (from what I understand), so I didn't understand why you would even bring them up other than to just piss people off.

I like the song, but it wouldn't feel right with the game unless there are some parts that are directed by Michael Bay.

It's great, but for explosions. But the song'll find its way on my iPod.

Just sayin...

I say Fate of Norms, Guardians of Asgaard, or The Hero by Amon Amarth would be a better imo.

Of course. Who would listen to something they don't like? I listen to music that I like, PERIOD. Whether or not it is mainstream doesn't matter.

Opeth is Swedish prog metal. Sweden is a Nordic country. People can be pissed off, I don't care. They have no reason to be.

Funny, the only song that goes through my head when I think of Skyrim is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0L2jzW1zLQ. Damn, I love Liv's voice, hope she's on the soundtrack.

Lisa Gerrard would be nice too.

I listen to metal but i wouldn't reccomend it for Skyrim simply because it simply doesn't appeal to many people. Consider this: average ES fan comes home from work and turns on xbox/ps3/pc to play Skyrim. Suddenly Bathory starts playing while he strangles Aludin to death, he immediately thinks "wow i can't believe the developers put in lisenced music that contradics all the lore simply because some fans thought it would be badass to kill dragons while listening to folk-metal" many people aren't fans of metal and chances are it's because they don't enjoy especially loud music so putting it in a mainstream game simply doesn't seem rational.
HOWEVER
From what i heard in the trailer(s) i hope they include some badass heavy gregorian chant/battle song style choral music like in the theme song in the actual game.

...you realise we're not hating on Opeth because they're mainstream, right? Amon Amarth are "mainstream", and I absolutely love them. Same as Epica, etc.

For one, them being from Sweden makes no difference. Haven't you noticed the theme of this thread? Folk/viking/winter/bleak themed metal is the general thing. No one's posted ABBA...

You cannot, however, deny that Opeth ARE overrated and arrogant.

Yup, viking music recreated using authentic instuments that were commonly used in those times, by those people. I'm glad SOMEBODY liked it.

+1

Now must get all their albums...

There'll be nothing like this in Skyrim of course. It's just going to be the usual bland orchestral stuff so as to not scare off the punters.

That's their only album so far, I'm not sure if they plan on making a second one or not. They just keep playing this one at norse festivals and such. You're right, there probably won't be anything like this in the game, and Howard Shore's music is GREAT, but at certain times I'll probably be throwing these guys on instead. It's just too good to pass up.

Gap Var Ginnunga by Wardruna. Their only album - so far. Thanks for the recommendation Gloomweaver.

So Howard Shore is doing the soundtrack. That's good. Now I feel silly, thought it was going to be Jeremy Soule again.
