Battle for the D.C. Ruins: The War Begins

Kyle tried to joke around, not wanting to see Chase rip the other two men apart.

"Well you know, you should respect me the most, I was part of the Midwestern Brotherhood back in the day" he said with a slight grin.

"And I'll make sure the Initiate shuts his trap, all right?"

Frank heard the commotion, and walked over to the squad. As he expected, it was "pure-bloods" arguing with wastelanders. He raised his hand, and stopped in his tracks, looking at them.

"If you are all done arguing with one another, I have some information. Its our mission orders. We've been ordered to go to some hospital, and clear it out. Then we'll have to meet up with Charlie squad and clear some metro's out. So if you can all at least act like friends and squad mates, I would like to get moving. I don't want my ass getting shot off because you all are arguing about who's right and wrong. Respect each other for the time." Frank put his helmet on, and made his way to the exit, and started towards the north. This would not be an easy mission.

Chase looked across to Kyle, his easy grin slipping back to his face.

"Oh? I hear things were pretty rough out there. Did ya ever see any of them weird looking deathclaws? Ah, never mind. Keep the new guys in line though, would ya? I don't want to hear any more disrespect out of that one. At least not until he's earned the right to talk. You hear that, initiate? You earn the right to say something to us. You haven't done crap so far. So when you earn the respect of the Brotherhood, then come back and say something, and maybe we won't kill you."

Chase was about to walk towards where he hoped the Paladin would be, when the man himself walked up. He said a few things about their mission, and acting like friends. "Yes sir. Can do Sir."

Ryan sat up at the call of his "name" and simply nodded to the Knight. if theirs one thing Ryan has learned already, its not to piss off most of these guys.

They really hate us don't they. I wonder why their even here if their not here to help...

"Dont worry about me pal. I'll keep my head down." he said.

Paladin Webster suddenly walked up and informed the group on what their mission was. Ryan answered it with a weak, "yes sir."

Richard said nothing and looked impassive, though on the inside he wanted to see how far he could stuff his Super Sledge up Leroy's ass. However, he knew that all he had on his side was an Initiate and a wastelander, while the westerners were more experienced and wore Power Armor. In the end, they'd just be beaten and humiliated. He then whispered to Ryan S., "Better stay out of their way, they seem to be hoping for any excuse to kill us off for what we are. Such is the way of the Brotherhood out west, hoarders, thieves and bigots hardly any better than the Enclave." He then heard Paladin Webster and said, "Yes sir, as long as they hold up their end of the bargain."

"Richard, am a Knight just like those guys. The westerners were just like that back in Kansas, until they needed the locals."

"So lets try to make sure you don't become a friendly fire case, and just wait till they respect the locals"

"Now lets go meet up with Paladin Webster"

Frank moved through the ruins, making sure no ambush or "Frankensteins" were waiting around the corner. He wasn't sure about the wastelanders, expecially the new one, but he didn't have much of a choice to work with them or not. Either way they were part of the Brotherhood in the eye's of Elder Lyon's.

"Stay sharp everyone. I want to get to the hospital safe and with as much ammo as possible." Frank continued, stepping over a broken street lamp.

Richard said to Kyle, "Yeah, you're right." He then continued walking.

Layne would continue to glare at Beckett, shifting his attention between both him and Chase. His hand would slowly lower to his sidearm, feeling the urge now more then ever to get a bead on these fools before they could just kill him during battle and make it look like he was simply a casualty of the close-quarters fighting. After hearing what Kyle said, however, he'd just shove into Beckett with his shoulder while heading towards Richards position. "I need to stay away from those chumps. If I don't, I'll end up shoving a grenade into Beckett's power armor and pushing him into Chase.".

Layne would switch to using his primary weapon, a customized M16-A4 he'd recently got several clips full of armor-piercing ammo for during their time with the other squad. From this point on he'd remain ever-vigilant of the two Westerners, hoping they'd make a foreign motion he could consider as an attempt on his life, and open fire.

"You guys are so uptight, chill out, I have plenty of ammo for all of you," Ryan glanced at his metal backpack, where a compartment was installed to hold amuniton, "If anyone needs, anything, all you have to do is ask."

Ryan solemnly walked in formation, near the other waste lander "brothers." His old hunting rifle cradled nicely in the crook of his arm. His eyes studied the more hostile, "Pure blooded" brothers. he didnt understand why he and them were so different.
your still human under that tin can jumpsuit. Ah well. They'l come to like me...I hope.

The other Ryan made a remark. Ryan looked at him in puzzlement. Out of all of the soldiers he was with, Ryan was the hardest to figure out. Either he really did enjoy his job of killing anything within range of his minigun, or the man was crazy...

Chase walked along with the group. Now that they were leaving the relative safety of the trenches, he took his glasses off and stuffed his helmet back on. He did a quick check of his weapons, powered his rifle up with a slight whirring sound, then pulled his pistol out and turned off the safety. Which, as he discovered, had been on the whole time. He looked across to Ryan as he walked.

"Why don't ya just send all that ammo to the muties next time we get ambushed, Ryan? Of all of us, you're the only one with stuff to spare. Freakin minigun. You know I think you're way too into overkill. It's not healthy, I tell ya."

Frank looked around up into the sky, it was starting to turn into a cloudy day. Large storm clouds were closing in, and the ruins gave off an even more drab look to themselfs. The squad moved through the ruins, tripping over rubble and pieces of junk laying on the ground. If the Super Mutants didn't kill them, it was bound to be the terrain. Frank looked at Leroy, a Knight he hadn't spoken with recently, but knew his relations to Casdin.

"So Beckett, how is Casdin treating you these days. I haven't seen him for sometime? Is he well?" Frank continued on, the squad seemed to be a little shocked that Beckett knew Casdin, a infamous Paladin in the Brotherhood who spoke his mind against Elder Lyon's recruiting wastelanders. Frank didn't mind al of Casdin's remarks, some of what he had to say was true, no matter how hard he was, some of what Casdin said made sense.

As clouds began to roll in, Kyle edged his way up to the Paladin. After about a block of ruined buildings and strewn junk Kyle fell in behind the Paladin.

"Sir, how long do the mutants normally keep humans captives?" he asked notchalantly

"More exactly, would they keep them alive for half a year?" he asked, a bit of excitement in his voice.

Frank looked at the young man. It was a sort of strange question to be asking, expecially when they were in the middle of the D.C. Ruins, and could be surrounded by Mutants at that very moment. But Frank smiled, and patted Kyle on the shoulder.

"I'm not sure, the longest I've seen a human captive in their hands is five mintues, seven at best. I don't think the Muties are intent on having captives at the moment, but there has been an increase from reports so I'm not sure, maybe when we see some, you can ask them?" Frank said smiling under his helmet, and laughing a bit. The hospital was a few blocks, but they were blocked. The squad would have to return to the dark dank metro tunnels.

"O.K., everyone get your guns ready. Safeties off, remember team work is key here. I don't want to have to lug your body up to the surface because you decided to have an argument with one another while fighting ferals. So stay as a team!" Frank hesitated a moment, looking his squad over quickly making sure they would obey.

Frank walked down into the metro tunnel, consumed by the darkness. The squad followed close. The tension quickly rose all around the squad, even Frank could feel it.

Chase laughed at Kyle's question as he came up next to the Paladin.

"Half a year? Man, that'd have to be a new record or something," Chase said after the Paladin had given his answer. "I don't even want to know what they do with their prisoners. Though I've always wondered if there's a connection between that and..."

Chase trailed off as the Paladin made the announcement about the Metro. He scowled under his helmet, but readied his gun. "Man, the only thing worse than the hell-hole up here is the hell-hole down here. Freakin tunnels... Freakin ghouls... Freakin darkness..."

As they entered, he turned his helmet light back on, and got ready for whatever might be down there.

"I have a bad feeling about this..."

Not particularly excited that the they were back in Ghoul Country, Layne would take the cover position in the back, as Roamers had a tendency of sneaking up. Glowing Ones too. He'd flick the safety on his M-16 off as a reflex, ready to thoroughly perforate any zombie dumb enough to charge they're way. "Smells like crap smeared on crap toast with a special crap dressing down here." Layne would quickly jerk left after hearing a sound, silently berating himself after seeing it was merely a radroach. "Damn, I hate those things almost as much as I hate ghouls."

Grimacing as he pulled on his helmet, Beckett knew that the Paladin was right, though he may hate it, to be a successful squad Beckett would have to respect the others. Or at least pretend to.

"So Beckett, how is Casdin treating you these days. I haven't seen him for sometime? Is he well?" Asked Webster, Beckett was more suprised that Webster would openly ask after Casdin, especially in front of the waste-rats.

"You know, the same. Lyons has been pissing him off something fierce, apparently he's taken to beating some of his soldiers for minor infractions. Though I'm pretty used to that from him from growing up. Taught me how to take a punch, and give a few as well."
"Normal father I guess." Added Beckett with a smile.

"O.K., everyone get your guns ready. Safeties off, remember team work is key here. I don't want to have to lug your body up to the surface because you decided to have an argument with one another while fighting ferals. So stay as a team!" Said the Paladin. His voice distorted by the helmet's speakers.

"Safties off Paladin? Who the [censored] puts their safeties on?" joked Beckett, seeing Dubrowski had brought back some good memories, not just getting his face blown off, or those of his father beating knowledge into him.

Richard had his Laser Rifle out as the squad entered the metro. Richard thought, "Man I hate the metro, you never know who or what you'll meet down here. Could be anything from a Radroach to a Raider to Feral Ghouls, or even Super Mutants. I just hope we don't run into any Glowing Ones, or worse, Reavers." He then overheard Beckett and thought, "Well that explains his attitude towards us "waste-rats"."

At the Paladins command, The squad started to move into the metro. God he hated the metro. Hell, he didn't even have a flashlight.

"O.K., everyone get your guns ready. Safeties off, remember team work is key here. I don't want to have to lug your body up to the surface because you decided to have an argument with one another while fighting ferals. So stay as a team!" Said the Paladin.

"Safties off Paladin? Who the [censored] puts their safeties on?" said Beckett

"Hell, my rifle doesn't even have a safety." Ryan added.

It was pitch black all around Ryan, His eyes were just starting to get used to the darkness. The flashlights mounted on the helmets of the BoH casted a daunting glow on the helmet. It was a little creepy.

"Man I hate the metro, you never know who or what you'll meet down here. Could be anything from a Radroach to a Raider to Feral Ghouls, or even Super Mutants. I just hope we don't run into any Glowing Ones, or worse, Reavers." Richard said.

At the mention of Raiders, Ryan suddenly became more alert. If it wasn't pitch black down here, the other members of their squad could have seen a slight hint of anger enter his face. Ryan ejected the shell in his rifle and replaced it with a new one...So he'd be ready this time.

Frank moved down the tunnel, slowly making steps as he checked all the corners they passed. It was an eerie slience as they moved down the tunnel, not even a moan from a ghoul echoed down the tunnel. Frank looked at the squad, making sure they were still following to him, and also checking the new wastelander that he had met in the trenches.

"If any of you see anything, report it. But be quiet about it, remember." Frank said in a heavy whisper. The squad acknowledge him, and they continued on, watching and hearing for anything out of the ordinary, or for anything usual.

Richard saw a green light and heard shuffling. He said to Paladin Webster, "Contact up ahead, possibly a Glowing One, sir." He then waited for Webster's response.

Ryan caught his breath when Richard called out the contact...He didn't like quiet. He raised his rifle to his shoulder and cautiously crept forward with the rest of the squad. His eyes flicked back and forth, observing every single detail.

Chase raised his rifle up at the call of contact. He crept forward slowly and quietly, making sure to make as little noise as possible. He slowly swept his gun across the darkness, his helmet mounted light revealing little in the underground. He was dead quiet now, all business.

He kept at full attention, ready for whatever the tunnels might throw at them, whether it be ghouls, mutants, or something else entirely.

Layne would continue to vigilantly watch the squads six, slowly sweeping his rifle back and forth with his eye fixed on the sight. He'd reach up and turn his helmets built-in light on after reaching a pitch black area of the subway, almost expecting a group of Glowing Ones to come jumping out from every corner and blow him and the rest of the squad to hell. "Somethin's off here... I can feel the damn tension in the air... Like somethin's watching us.", he'd whisper under his breath to Richard.
