Battle*Mage

How do they hold up in comparison to a full Warrior or Mage?

I've been tempted to create one for so long now, I often see a screenshot of one that someone posted and I'm like... oh what the hell so here we go.

Race: Nord or Imperial
Perks: One-Handed / Heavy Armor / Destruction/ Alteration / Conjuration / Smithing

I know there is a lot there perk wise but what do you think? How have you done yours?

I recently made some kind of battlemage, male breton. Conjuration and one-handed are his main skills. Destruction and restoration come second, and he uses heavy armor.

Basically I summon an atronach when the battle starts, then conjure a sword to my other hand and keep either a spell or another bound weapon on the other. Bound weapons do some nice damage with conjuration and one-handed perks. And IF you also decide to use spells to heal yourself, you'll be able to handle quite a lot.

I haven't tried playing a pure warrior so I can't really say how a battlemage holds up to them. I've made a pure mage though, and I gotta say both are equal, as long as my mage manages to stay out of melee attacks.

You kinda need enchanting for destruction to work.

Mine has Conjuration(only for 2x dremora lords otherwise known as "PLAN B: KILL ALL THE THINGS!"), Destruction, Smithing, Enchanting, Alchemy, Heavy armor, 2H, Alteration and bit of sneak, block and restoration.

I'm playing a battlemage. One-handed, heavy armor, destro, enchanting, and a little bit of resto in there too for those long battles. I use the 1-8 hotkeys. 1=firebolt, 2=ice shard, 3=fireball, 4=ice storm, 5=chain, lightning, 6=healing, 7=sword A, 8=sword B
Sword B is usually has life steal, while sword A has frost, fire, or lightning enchantments on it. Some things are challenging but so far I have not run into a situation that was impossible.

I'm wondering how they are compared to pure builds.

Breton
Conjuration/Restoration/1h/Bow
All points into health, at least for first 10-15 levels.

+ Enough health to be able to react to any situation. Nothing can 1 or 2 or 3 shot you.
+ Have tools to deal with anything.

Have you also gone for heavy armor?

No. I am using light armor head/gloves/boots and mage robe. I may go for alteration later on, but right now I don't feel the need to be honest. The high health + restoration seems to do fine without the armor.
