Battle Music Initiation

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 1:17 am

One problem that annoyed me in Oblivion (I can't remember if it was in Morrowind or not, I think it was) was this scenario: you are enjoying yourself a nice leisurely stroll in some plains north of Anvil, suddenly and battle music plays and you draw your weapon... wait a few seconds... uhmm... anything coming? A few days later you hear the wolves snarl and combat starts (Not days but it feels that long). It ruins the "ambush" feeling of the game. Just a small concern that I hope a dev reads (or possibly they have already fixed the problem). I would hope that the combat music starts after either you or the enemy has been attacked.

Yeah this has been in topics several times as well... Doesn't bother me since I usually play without the music on, but yeah... It's annoying, we know..

maybe its the six sence, but i wish you had an option of changing the sounds and song with a list of songs they give AND YOU UP LOAD (xboxpeople) ya i know you can just lower the music volume put in the jumpdrive song but i wont be triggered by where you are.)

maybe battle music shouldn't start until you take damage, look at the oppenent and draw your weapon, or when you start sprinting from/at something that is engaging you.

Something.

Much though I like the music, I keep it turned off, just because it makes it much less interesting if I instantly know whenever anything is coming for me.

An intro would be nice, maybe something like everything going quiet a second of two before combat starts to create a sudden tense atmosphere. But to be honest, if they changed anything to do with combat I'd prefer it if they made the music appropriate to what you were fighting. I can't count the times that I've been walking along, when all of a sudden, epic 'end of the world' combat music starts. I run for cover and draw my sword, scanning the area for the hostile force that has been stalking me, and has finally moved in for the kill. And that's when I see it: a small mudcrab.

I'd like the battle music intro to start when you take damage or when they start their attack animation on you. However, I liked it just fine in Oblivion and I would never turn off the music because the ambient music is just too epic ( I love you Oblivion OST <3)

I agree 100% I actually replaced all the music except the menu screen with blank sounds (because just turning the music off in the options screen makes the menu seem dull) mainly due to this, it ruined the surprise of combat, and gave you too much time to prepare yourself. You saw every enemy coming, and knew what to expect before anyone threw a punch.

Yes. This issue was also prominent in Morrowind. The reason I remember this is because of either being ambushed by a pack of cliff racers or a random rat comes a mile away to hit me.

I personally always thought this was humorous in TES games, but I think BGS could find a more subtle way to implement in this system. I think we will see a difference as all creatures will not instantly attack you on sight.

Every environment should have its own music that plays and changes as you move through the environment, not music that changes because you are "in combat" but yeah this is like 3rd thread about this

I agree that the music would denounce the danger but.. at least make the sounds in a way that i won't jump off my chair every time i get hit by something i wasn't expecting.

Sigh...yeah that is severely disappointing.

Well hopefully there will be another mod for Skyrim that changes this like the one for Oblivion.

Im playting Oblivion currently approaching pells gate from the west, cue Battle music.

Its Dramatic, tense, Epic, my companion Vija stands behind me, I pull out my weapon expecting a mass of Bandits coming from the nearby fort. My stance is ready I prepare for battle, OH ***** I am beset upon...

a Mudcrab coming out the bush.... I roflstomp it with one swing and wonder hmm, MMM must be messing up, I was sure they weren't hostile.

I can't think of any effective implementations for battle music without setting off the player to early to too late.
