Battle Music Spoil Surprise

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 3:55 am

Whenever the battle music played, i know there is enemy nearby, i will be on guard and ready my weapon. I just wait them to appear or search for them. It is not a surprise anymore.

There are no enemy that can sneak attack the PC because of the battle music.

While music bring the mood, it take away the surprise. I think the battle music should trigger when PC involve in combat, not before the combat.

Agreed?

I usually turn the music off, but sometimes it takes awhile for the music to start for me.
But yeah i'd agree, I also hate how the compass tells you where the enemy is too, so I also turned the Hud Opacity all the way down :D

I prefer having the battle music. I remember playing Daggerfall this one time I heard a skeleton scream and it attacked me. Scared the living daylights out of me.

And so...all heroes survived because of there are music playing when their enemies come around lols

Enemies always come with music.

It is like Darth Vader, he have a special music when he come out...and his breath sound too...

It's been like this for 10 years, and the solution is the same.

Turn off the music.

In Morrowind, there were mods that let you choose which music to play.
I turned off exploration music, as it got repetitive, and overshadowed ambient sounds like insects and things.
But I always left battle music on. In most of my TES playthroughs, I end up maxing out sneaking, and using Detect Life as much as possible.
I hate being surprised. :P

I turned the battle music off in Morrowind because I disliked it getting in the way with the beautiful music mod i was using.

I hate being surprised.

I love surprise

It is okay if the music triggered right after the PC got hit, or sniped, it is better if the music also make me surprise like orchestral hit or something,

It should probably start only when you are either hit by an enemy or they are visible onscreen.

I treat battle music has being used for cues that you would normally pick up on. Footsteps, brushing against grass and bushes, clothing/armor/weapon noises, etc, that the game doesn't play. It's not fun when dudes in full plate mail and lumbering ogres and bears can sneak-attack you.

Skyrim does work better, though. It has different danger levels, where certain (weak) enemies won't trigger battle music, some enemies will, and others (mainly dragons) will have unique "boss" music.

I seem to recall mudcrabs making the same battle music as everything else.

It probably depends on your level compared to theirs. Maybe also how long you're "in combat" and how many there are.

Well, the player with high sneak skills can sneak with full plate armor, why can't the enemy?Orges and bears also can sneak attack if they want to, they also have tactical brain.... It is not fair you see...whenever the hero come, there is no music, but when enemy come they come with music. So the enemy always don't know the hero sneaking on them, but the hero will always know there is enemy nearby because of their music

So much for realism there...

I would like separate toggle for battle music, I like the exploration music and I wouldn't turn it off.

I think that's rather dumb, too. You shouldn't be able to sneak (and steal/pickpocket) effectively with heavy armor no matter what your sneak or heavy armor skills are. Effective sneaking should need plain clothes, or light armor with some training.

Orges and bears also can sneak attack if they want to, they also have tactical brain.
Not when they're running at you full-tilt.

So the enemy always don't know the hero sneaking on them, but the hero will always know there is enemy nearby because of their music
Enemies can spot you before you reach them if you're not sneaking or invisible, even from behind (and even if you are sneaking, you need a sufficient sneak skill).

Music is always off in my game, unless I'm in a palace or rich person's house.

I love surprise

I agree. Well...I'm not going to say I always love being surprised. Sabercats svck in Skyrim, for instance. But I'd rather be surprised than spoiled
