Battlespire and Redguard

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:01 pm

www.gog.com is a site for... good old games. Games that are cheap, downloadable, and work on XP/Vista. Later 7 I presume. Now I'm not sure how this thing works, who are the people who make the games work (using dosbox), and is there anything in the process that requires much from the original Developers of the games. And how are the sales distributed. But I do know that if Battlespire and Redguard could be purchased from there, they would sell. I'd be first to grab them.

Bethesda, if you can do anything about it, make it happen.

Todd Howard said that one of his biggest regrets with the development of Redguard was not based off of Direct3D acceleration, but rather Glide. That probably hurt its sales quite a bit. Although nowadays people can just emulate it with a wrapper, it must've been quite problematic back then. I would definitely acquire both of these games right away, however!

Then log in there and vote for them :)
I just played first 3 levels of Descent 1, and *gasp* even died twice on the second hardest difficulty. Good times! Gothic 1 is the next I get :P
But those are just games. TES games are experiences in a rich world. Like living another life ;) So much stuff I've already forgotten about Redguard :/

WOOT! Descent for the win! Love those games. Third's my favorite.

GoG requires that all the games be made fully Windows XP/Vista compatible. Since Redguard was made for Glide instead of Direct 3D, getting it to run properly would probably be too much effort for too little financial reward.

You gotta love the BS intro.

Doesn't anyone of the developers have anything to say about this GoG stuff?

I hope that this happens too, made a thread about this not long ago :). I'm sure the gog team would be able to get Red guard to run, they've got a bit of experience with tweaking games to make them work by now. Wouldn't happen soon but it'd be really nice, Morrowind could also be on gog in a few years.
