Battlespire Online

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:08 pm

I remember awhile back I believe Magnus attempted to organize some online battlespire action, but as I recall it never amounted to anything. Has it been successfully done recently? Would anyone want to give it a shot sometime? Does anyone else even own battlespire anymore? :biglaugh:

I would totally do this. I don't have BS installed right now, but I will try to get that done and working properly soon.

What are your experiences with multiplayer? Do you like playing the storyline or deathmatch/ctf better? I've never played BS online, but I can imagine getting hacked up repeatedly by other players while trying to get myself equipped or looting someone.

Coop is what I like the most, deathmatch has issues since you can abuse the character creation to make some really epic characters. I've not tried to MP with satellite, but I'd be willing to try.

When was the last time anyone got it to work online? What method would we even use?

Last time I played was '04 or '05 with Sinder and some others. Used Kali. This is not very usable now, and not required since we can use the ipxconnect command through DOSBox to connect to people.

It takes some tweaking, but yea it works. Not as smoothly as Daggerfall does, but well enough.
I'll try to get it installed this weekend and we can work out a time to test it out.

Battlespires worked fine in DOSBox for me since .70ish. And that was on a AMD 3100+. Runs smoooooth as silk in .73b3 *Grins* on a 5800+ :)

Ahhhh how I would love to join you but my gaming PC is not connected to the Net. Co-op seems fun.
By the way, what happens in Co-op when a player talks with a creature? Do everyone enter the dialogue screen and look at the player chose the dialogue choices? (Just a random thought...)

You can't talk to them. Coop takes all the 'dialogue' ways of completing pieces of the game out and instead leave the actiony parts. Which is a good thing, since it keeps the action going. :)

Alright, well would anyone object to me attempting to plan out a battlespire online shindig?

First off, lets take a poll of how many people actually have it and would be willing to give it a shot. I've got a copy, and I'm down.

Monday would be great.

While we're here, this game is a bit laggy on my computer. The first level was OK, but the second is almost a slideshow. Other than putting the detail on Low and shrinking the screen size, anyone have tips to speed this game up?

Use a CVS build of the game? Don't run with the CD (no music/dialogue - in MP no problem). :x

Most useful indeed. Less talk, more action. I like it.

Do any of you three mind to take screenshots while you play? I'm just curious to see how Battlespire multiplayer looks like. :)

Oh, I plan on to, if I can remember ingame that CTRL+F5 is the screenshot button. :D And Monday looks good for me.

Yea, I'm going to try to remap the screenshot key to something more accessible, so I can get more action shots.

I don't remap keys in DOSBox anymore, the keymapper made it so my 'w' key for the longest time was a left mouseclick, it caused issues. ;)

Oy, I'll be careful then :)

What happens when you die in multiplayer? Do you just respawn or does everyone have to start over?

Nice way of me not to pay a attention to this interesting thread /gone all weekend.

Yes, you go to the score screen and press okay to respawn. :)

So is the how-to for running battlespire in DOSbox in the sticky up to date? I'm going to try it out if it is.
