BeardHeads FTW and Inventory Items gone too far

Post » Thu Sep 29, 2011 12:58 pm

I just wanted a show of hands on everyone who is not only going to the midnight release of Skyrim, but are also donning a Beardhead!
I'm totally wearing my Viking helmet and beard combo! Anyone else?! Its going to be cold in November!

I also wanted to complain about viewing the items in your inventory. Its a cool feature and all, but now we HAVE to use it in order to view the symbols on the key to unlock a puzzling locked door. Couldnt they just say the correct combination in the quest log?
Should I really care what cooked fish looks like? Just shove it in my mouth and kill a dragon, already!

I like what they've done with the amount of detail they have on items

What! So what your saying is you would rather the boring "Thats not the right Panel you get shot with arrows now" puzzles over the interesting puzzles we know have.
You sound more like your worried you will get stuck, just remember sometimes your inventory will tell you what you need. I love the new feature, i always liked to look at the detail on things, now its easier.

Its an opinion but i like the new Dungeon/Puzzle things, they add more Role Play elements, and interesting game play. They should all be pretty self explanatory tho, so don't worry.

Dungeons are not always on Quest too, i think it would be cool if you could keep a journal tho, that allowed you to put hints and tips you run across for later in the future.

I wish it would snow here in November. I live in the only part of Canada where we get only 1 ft of snow a winter. 2 years ago we only got about 1 cm for the whole year.

And if I could grow a beard I would.

And I like the UI system a lot. The attention to detail is important and will only boost the quality of the game.

Beard: No beard for this one. I might go to a midnight release if there's one in my town, but without a Viking helmet or beard. If there were a game I'd grow my beard out for it would be Skyrim, but letting my face hair grow out drives me insane somehow. *reaches for norelco*

Inventory item studying: I like that they're doing this. Merely spelling it out for the player in their quest log would be the very type of hand holding so many despise and would not make one use any of their powers of observation. Looking at most inventory items closely isn't mandatory, but it's cool that we can now take a closer look at items if we so desire

Facial hair isn't that bad. Sure its itchy at night against your pillow...and it does tend to sneak into your mouth...
But think about it: A beard BENEATH a beard while wearing a Viking helmet of the same material! Buy a pair today, people! Hazzah!

And the thing about the inventory, its okay I guess. Just another piece of content in my $60 game. See...I'd remove that, all the beast races that I will never play as, and few other things. With those out of the way, the game wouldn't cost as much! Thats just me, though.
Why pay for a sandwich with onions, when you aren't in the mood for onions? Yes, I want Skyrim BIGTIME! But, I don't really plan on doing absolutely everything the game has to offer. Sorry.

I agree that a paper doll would have been better. If I want to examine an item, I'll do it with the grab feature in real time. Just let me drop quest items.

As for the inventory, it was terrible in the E3 demo, only allowing you to view one item at a time. Apparently they said they would change it in a vid interview, but I dont know if its been changed in the newer showcasing and demos, or not.

I hope I know what you mean by "paper doll". Thats the page where you can see your entire character wearing the armor and holding his weapons, right?
Did they get rid of this?! Please say it wasn't removed!

Meh... Beards, for the reasons you've mentioned among others, aren't for me. I'm playing as an Altmer anyway, so method acting a Nord/Viking isn't for me. Buying a helm/beard set is of no interest to me. The Alduin statue, however....

Well, thankfully you're not making these calls as many like the beast races and will scour their inventories, looking at every item closely to soak up the aesthetic of the art. None of the things you care not about are mandatory save when a puzzle requires closely observing an artifact for clues which will, most likely, be pretty obvious.

I won't be attending a midnight launch since I'm nowhere near anywhere, so I get the game by mail the next morning. Though I've come to appreciate not having to go to a physical store to get my games, especially during the dreaded midnight launch...

Thats like saying you would rather pay the same price for skyrim but with less content, taking away stuff will not lessen the price. No one cares what you don't want, we all have opinions, few really matter. Most like the new system as the old "Paper Dolls" were rubbish and the menu was to complex, and took to long to mess with, it was an intrusion. The UI is much easier, and in my opinion cooler. I like the fact that you can study objects, and its not hard for them to do either so it probably took them a week only because of the tons of items in the game. It only takes the item and puts it on a three axis rotate.

If you want your game handed to you thats fine, but i like to use my senses, be connected to the game instead of just along for the ride. I want to be in control of the ride.

About the Paper Doll, if you want to see what it looks like on your character, just third person yourself and rotate your camera.

ill be going to a midnight release, i will of course have a beard; the same one i always have though; dont know where i would even get the helmet-thing though.

i would rather puzzles rely on observing the environment and not some puzzle-related item in you inventory, but viewing your items in 3d is a neat little feature..or it would be if it didnt replace my paper doll :swear: .

but the UI in oblivion svcked for PC users as well; bethesda apparently goes for the "make it good on console, PC guys will make 5 different and far superior ones anyway" philosophy when it comes to UIs now, which is fine by me.
