Beast and Monster guides in game

Post » Sat Aug 27, 2011 1:41 am

I've always thought that there should be books in the Elder Scrolls games that tell you about certain monsters depending on the books and what type of weapon or spell is best used against them. I find beast lore a bit lacking in-game with TES. It's the only thing I think that Bethesda should take inspiration from Twitcher.

WIll there be more lore/books that describe the various foes you fight in Skyrim? I hope so.

You can find out monster weaknesses through books! http://www.google.lt/imgres?q=confirmed&um=1&hl=lt&sa=N&biw=1024&bih=656&tbm=isch&tbnid=WeQvzvXoAPuCOM:&imgrefurl=http://www.zazzle.com/confirmed_poster-228887304544419212&docid=HGdw5vy2Kz66CM&w=400&h=400&ei=xcJXTq-RJo7OswbRquiFCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=161&vpy=90&dur=625&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=117&ty=110&page=1&tbnh=166&tbnw=183&start=0&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0

Dont know if its in but if it's not mods should fix that problem. I'm a fan of this too love how it was done in castlevania lords of shadow.

Bestiaries are always deeply interesting to read.

There is no reason not to other than "we don't have time" because it's an absolutely brilliant thing to do!

I just want to point out I saw this thread out of the corner of my eye and thought it said "Breast and Monster guides in game" I was like

Anyway, this would be pretty neat for the less obvious stuff.

I'd rather have a collection of books ingame that describes the beastiary in great detail. Probably as deep as one book per creature family.

Edit: Oh, I read "guide" so I immediately thought out of game book. My bad :)

I sure hope there is, in the same way as there is alchemy boks that tell basic ingrendient combinations you can try out yourself to unlock them :vaultboy: I love the idea of the game having it's own "wiki" in it with books and such, no need to go out of charcater to learn that ghosts are weak to silver and immune to normal weapons. (I know loading screens told that in Oblivion, but that's not the same thing.)

Found a fantastic post from Alois Hammer in a previous thread on this subject :

"Well see, here's the thing. On the one hand, I agree it would be rather cool. But on the other, what I like about the in-game lore books are that they're written as if the gameworld were real- meaning some are accurate information, some are iffy, and some are outright ignorance and/or propaganda with ulterior motives. So, I wouldn't mind "some" information being available in this form, but I wouldn't want anything approaching "all" useful information regarding creatures and such. Leave the "everything you need to know to beat every critter" for the Wiki, and make clear that even those in the gameworld don't necessarily know everything about it."

Btw, Alois, where are you? I miss your inveterate pessimism.

I don't remember any bestiaries or books about monsters from Oblivion or Morrowind, were there any?

But at least there's http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Kagouti_Mating_Habits:D

Edit: Oh yeah I remember one, from Morrowind: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Legions_of_the_Dead
And http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Secrets_of_Dwemer_Animunculi, if pictures count. The Sphere Centurions which that book depict are confirmed for Skyrim btw. So be wary of any balls you see rolling around, for they may transform into a mechanical knight and attack!
