Beast race solution

Post » Fri Jan 08, 2010 7:28 pm

Oh, and can the developers please remember that the Argonians are reptiles and reptiles have no briasts, please? Lizards with briasts are...odd, since lizards don't nurse.

In a fantasy game every little detail counts to make a believable world to sink in. A beast with human legs may not be the most important detail but in the big picture it spoils the role playing. I always play beasts in Tes and I don't like beast races with human legs for the same reason I wouldn't like nVidia advertising on the walls of Anvil. We have enough humanity in human races, please make the weird races look/sound weird.

Like Morrowind, but able to wear boots and closed helms. I personally would've played them a lot more.

Please scrap the Argonian race.

Morrowind enchanced: beast races have beast legs, but also separate beast race leg armor AND separate closed helmets for beast races i guess  though i have never tried any of the mods.

Let's just get rid of all the fantasy elements and make this game as real as possible. So no elves, no orcs, no monsters.

Lady of the Sky, if we get rid of both beast races, a lot of fans will be extremely irritated.

I prefer normal legs, it's more old school and looks better. Daggerfalls beast races had normal legs and Oblivions beast races looked better than Morrowinds :P

The beast races make Elder Scrolls unique from all the standard "Humans, Elves, and Orcs" of every other fantasy IP.

No beast races. They belong in hell. Maybe the idea was cute, but now they're boring, and therefore wrong.

So long as the beast races have smooth natural looking walking animations.

I didnt like Morrowinds handling of the beast races because of the weird looking animation. Oblivion just had normal legs, I didnt like that either. Beasts should have beast legs, ust better animation.

Also they should have to get special armour, for both legs and helmet.

Morrowind-style (or MW-enhanced) Beast Races is the first thing I hope they bring back for Skyrim.

We need the Khajiit and Argonians to be unique!!!

(and the Orcs shouldn't be so human, like in OB)

Morrowind enchanced

I think beast races should have legs like in Morrowind, just with better animations so I'm not waddling everywhere. For boots and stuff, it could also just look a tiny bit different on beast races instead of having the create whole new items for them. Might be a bit weird for some people when the armor changes it's shape to fit their characters though

Really don't want them to have Oblivion legs, beast races with human legs look strange imo

your kidding right? Cat people and lizard people are one of the "MAIN FEATURES" of the series? I'm pretty sure they are just a minor option that can be ignored during character creation, and also a small percentage of the NPC population hahaha. I dont think their presence is unbearable, but i dont think the devs should spend hours and hours on making some of the races appear more unique, when the minority of the people will be using them. I feel that time should be used towards improving the AI, something that is utterly critical to the game and was quite wacky in Oblivion and Fallout 3 (and every other bethesda game :P)

Actually, I'd say Argonians are one of the most popular races used in Oblivion (perhaps even the Elder Scrolls series as a whole). Everyone that I know started out with an Argonian just because they looked cool, had decent stats, and could breathe underwater. They're definitely up there with other races like the Dark Elf, Wood Elf, Orc, and Imperial. I'd say it's probably the Khajiits that are the ones that aren't too popular.

As for my opinion on this matter, I think I'd prefer the Morrowind Enhanced way with beast races having separate boots and helms.

I prefer normal legs, it's more old school and looks better. Daggerfalls beast races had normal legs and Oblivions beast races looked better than Morrowinds :P

So what you're telling me is that Bethesda wasn't lazy and just decided to go back to the Daggerfall design? Interesting.

I wonder what the die hard Daggerfall fans think of Oblivion's beast races then...

Remove lizard and replace it with Argonian and you will find the sentence above quite wrong and the sentence she quoted/answered to quite right. How many times have I not heard the word "hatchling" said by Argonians? Do you nurse eggs? So remove the Argonian boobs, feel free to add more exotic legs, all the more fun I would say.

Well...

Couple of things. The games and the concept art tend to disagree with each other on exactly how the races look...

BUT: One of the reasons they are "beast" races is because they are (relatively) physically similar to animals.

For the Argonians, I really think the way they operated in morrowind was a better idea (though, of course, the animations and no helms/boots svcked). I think that they DEFINITELY need to have foot/leg/face armor especially for any non-elf or non-human physical races. Maybe special gloves, too. But no boobs. Please. I know this presents a whole nother issue with the programming aspect of clothing, but...

For the Khajiit, I can see ohmes-raht having elf legs and feet, and the cathay-raht having beast legs and feet. They should definitely take into account the lunar lattice when designing khajiit bodies. Ditto for the armor bits.

For the Orcs, I'd be okay either way.

Keep in mind, too, though, that the reason they made everyone have one body in OB is that you need to mod ONE male and ONE female mesh and you're done for shirts, pants, etc. If we go with diverse body types, then you need a elf/human/orc male, a khajiit 1 male, a khajiit 2 male... etc. It makes the whole section of wearable items more difficult to handle.

I hope they get this stuff in. The issue here, though, is the additional hours and hours of work represented by having to mod in all the different versions of each shirt, which, at the minimum, would be 3 instead of 2.

While I appreciate that the Oblivion beast races were something of a return to the older Arena and Daggerfall styles, and that the digitigrade models of Morrowind made for an increase in workload for the modellers... still, I want to see the Morrowind style beast races again. They just looked right!

The Arena and Daggerfall races, to my eyes, look horribly stilted, a concession to the technical limitations of the games. And frankly, although they're far more polished and better looking the Oblivion beast races still look compromised. The Morrowind beast races look like Bethesda said to themselves, "To hell with technical limitations, let's make the best damned lizard and cat people we can!" Yes, they got a lot of criticism for not making boots and closed helms wearable by the beast races, and for having awkward animations. But in Oblivion, instead of fixing those problems, it looks as though they retreated from them.

Probably fixing the problems was far harder than I realise, but I'd be very happy if they could do so in Skyrim.

I say have different types of each beast race, some with beast like legs like in MW and special armor for it, some like in Oblivion.

Because there're different types of both, Kahjiit and Argonians in lore.

This.

It's so stupid:

"Daggerfall and Morrowind had "X" feature and Oblivion didn't. I was SOOOOO disappointed".

And now it's:

"Yeah Daggerfall had this feature and so did Oblivion so it did go back to the roots, but Morrowind did it perfect!"

Really? REALLY? ??

Personally, I would like the armor to automaticly shapeshift to fit the legs and heads of the beasts, it would be conveniant for the gameplay, but wouldnt make sence in the lore. So I guess having separate parts only for beasts replacing boots and closed helmets in armor sets would make more sence, I think it would even add to the deph of gameplay, althought it would be a b**h to travel very deep inside a dungeon only to find that the ,,armor piece of awesomeness'' you found dont even fit on your character :P

Bethesda needs to find out who the 7 people who voted No beast races are and make sure they are never allowed to purchase anything TES related again.

Good point. Evolution only makes things work, it does not find the best solution.

There was actually a poll not long ago on 'favourite races'. Argonians came second after Dunmer... I just thought I'd throw that out there...

Other.

They should seperate bodys and armor/clothing and not tag the body type on the armor. Would affect much more than just beast races.
